  2. Try this advice: it's from a very reliable source! Shin Splints Arrive Safely John
  3. Well now! I reckon I'll have to review them there rules one more time! Congrats, Andrea. You are a perfect choice to keep the forums true to their creator's vision. Arrive Safely John
  4. That's a great idea. I acknowledge you for your willingness to reach out to those without special plans for these important holidays. You and your friends will be rewarded a hundred fold for giving of yourselves that way. *SP bows deeply*
  5. Welcome, Jib! You're welcome here, current or not . . . I think you'll find a bunch of folks this Winter that are non-current 'cause of weather and are still posting away! Glad to have you!
  6. I have never heard of an S&TA charging money to sign a proficiency card. Something is going on there. I would call him and tell him you consulted with several longtime skydivers who said that was very unusual. If you can't work it out with him, I agree with calling USPA to let them know what's going on. Arrive Safely John
  7. Welcome! Glad to have you in our midst! Here is you website posted as a clickable link: http://devoted.to/skykitten Arrive Safely John
  8. Welcome! I wish for you action packed minutes of computer access for you each day, here on dropzone.com, of course!! Arrive Safely John
  9. Nutrition information isa available from all fast food restaurants. You just have to ask. If they don;t have it on hand, they can get it mailed to you, or you can likely find it on their website. It's good education to find out that a Double Whopper with Cheese has 590 calories and 34g of fat (11g saturated fat). I pulled that from Here Arrive Safely John
  10. My #1 suggestion for you is to find an indoor pool where you can swim some laps. You don't have to be a great swimmer with great for, just able to make it from one end to the other while raising your heart rate. Swim for 20-30 minutes three times a week (ideally in the morning 1 hour before breakfast). Swimming is not only great cardio, but works a lot of muscles in your upper and lower body. My other suggestion is to relook the outdoors. You can buy great warmies these days, starting with a capilene (or similar) base layer, and layering as much as needed on top of that, usually topped with a breathable windstopper. Get yourself some trail shoes and hit the roads (running or walking). They even make "tire chain" type studded over-straps for running shoes to improve traction running on snowy roads. Another idea would be to take up cross-country skiing which is EXCELLENT exercise. Good Luck!
  11. I concur with the advice not to log it in the regular part of your logbook. That's for skydives. I do think it's a great idea to keep track - I wish I had. Arrive Safely John
  12. ROFLMAO! Go Tyler! I can see you two are quite closely connected genetically, eh?? Arrive Safely John
  13. My personal choice: 1) Check altitude 2) Ensure the two are not entangled with one another in any way 3) Leave the brakes stowed on both canopies 4) Steer them to a side-by-side using rear risers 5) Check altitude 6) Above 1000 Feet, cutaway the main Once again, a personal choice. 14. HH, The fourth bullet from the bottom says "lisings" instead of "listings." Thought you might like to know!
  15. Never saw one (other than pictures), but I heard it had-non-cascaded Type IV suspension lines and no stabilizers. Can anyone back me up on that?? Arrive Safely John
  16. Welcome James! Glad to hear you're so excited about our sport! I think you'll find a few of us here that agree! Arrive Safely John
  17. 5 (miles run in the rain):0:0 The weather sucked, but I wouldn't have been jumping anyway - too much to do at home. Arrive Safely John
  18. Here are some general rules of thumb: -student jumps or qualifying jumps for USPA license (e.g. 4-point 4-way for "C" license) = USPA or Coach or higher or foreign equivalent. -jumps that will be looked at in the future to validate currency, license requirements, USPA rating prerequisites, etc. = a USPA licensed skydiver or foreign equivalent. -jump #1234, where you docked on your mother on her first tandem jump = your mother! -Hope this helped. I do encourage you to 1) log every jump with all the important stuff 2) if there's no tracking system in your current logbook for the info you want to track, make up your own 3) continue to add up your freefall time and get signatures until you hold every rating that requires those. Arrive Safely John
  19. Welcome! This is a great place to belong. The weather is decent here all winter . . . only a small amount non-jumpable days. I will jump in anything, so it's a great place to be for me! Arrive Safely John
  20. It's been raining here all weekend, so no jumping. My son and I got our run in regardless yesterday; came home looking like drowned rats! No worries, though, I'm getting a lot done around the house. Arrive Safely John
  21. Ditto on the saferty stow loops. I find them all the time. You really have to pull it out and check it. I found an upper control line junction (cascade) with no bar-tack once while inspecting a brand-new reserve. We called the manufacturer with the serial number and QC number, then shipped it back to get it fixed. I found a reserve that had been assembled and packed by the same person out of continuity. I have found really bad CYPRES mod's too. Arrive Safely John
  22. I have been a Bond fan since I saw "Diamonds Are Forever" in the theater when I was a kid. "Live and Let Die" came out, and I was burning to see it. It took some serious bugging of my parents, but they took me and set the hook. I have seen all multiple times, and own most on VHS or DVD. I am looking forward to this one as well. Pierce Brosnan is a great Bond. Arrive Safely John
  23. I'll take "Freudian Slips" for $1000, Alex? OH YEAH! A video Daily Double! Arrive Safely John
