How do you torture/play tricks on your pet?
slotperfect replied to SpeedRacer's topic in The Bonfire
I have two pooches. One is not really the playing type. For the other, I get on the side of the bed opposite the bedroom door, which is open. I get her all riled up so she goes tearing around the house, running back into the bedroom with a flying leap onto the bed. After about three "laps" I raise up the quilt in the middle of one of her flying leaps, and trap her in the makeshift "net" then hide somewhere else in the house for her to find me. This works for me: -I hydrate almost exclusively with water. If I use sports drink I cut it in half (by chasing it with an equal quantity of water) -I "pre-hydrate" by knocking down two liters of water before being outside in the hot sun. -I stay hydrated by knocking back the water one liter at a time. I avoid getting to the point where I feel thirsty, and I shoot for keeping my urine clear or light yellow. -I also snack on pretzels, bananas, etc - foods that are full of sodium and potassium, which you lose when sweating. -I delete caffeine altogether, and I'm careful about my alcohol consumption. Both of them dehydrate me badly. -Other than than, wear a hat to keep cool and wear sunscreen. Have a great trip! Arrive Safely John

Have her really check in with herself as to why she is Cheering in the first place. For example, she finds sheer joy in being excited. Then you as her Mom can help her be grounded in that "way of being," and examine what value there is in risking a tryout for the high school squad. If she shows up for tryouts and gives it her best, totally coming from the place you grounded her in, that's how she will come across to those who are making the selections. It's all about being clear, and about being positive! Arrive Safely John

I have one, load it almost exactly the same, and love it. Lots of range and fantastic openings. Arrive Safely John

-Generally speaking, a 9-cell will give you more glide than a 7-cell. Airfoil design has a lot to do with it though. -There are 9-cell ZP canopies out there that open beautifully to support your desire for safe camera openings. -While there are likely more choices, I recommend the Sabre2. If you choose to downsize to the Sabre2 135, I think you will be really happy at your wingloading. I load mine at 1.34:1 and I have lots of fun with it, but I can be conservative with it as well when I want to. Have fun and be safe! Arrive Safely John

I've not done a TON out of a Cessna, but this works really well for me, and I'm 6'2" 220lbs. Video sits in the student position next to the pilot. My tandem student sits behind the pilot. I sit next to the Tandem Student, just aft of Video. At hook-up altitude, I roll over and back up. I get my student up, check his harness, helmet, etc. then have him kneel in front of me, facing forward, looking straight at the Video. We hook up and tighten down here. Door comes open, Video climbs out. We walk on our knees as far forward as we can, then BOTH of us put our right foot out. I then have the Tandem Student put his right foot out next to the left and put arms in the exit position. I have my hand protecting the drogue during this moving around. This leaves my Tandem Student almost completely out of the plane, and I am as far forward in the door as I can go, squatting on my left foot. When it's time to go, I simply step out (squatted down 'cause I'm so tall), use the relative wind to help me push off the step, and dive out and down. This exit really works well for me. One difference: -If there is no Video, I will sit in the "student" position next to the pilot with the Tandem Student sitting immediately aft of me between my legs. We hook up and tighten here. Door comes open, and we simply put feet out as described above, and I "scooch" myself up into the squatting on the left leg position and out we go. I dislike the poised exit position because the door and the window sill in the door really interfere with my reserve pin. I tried it, and I don't lie it at all. Hope this helps. Arrive Safely John

I have about 50 jumps on mine. At first I had some off-heading openings (diving turn). I changed my stow bands to regular ones for the locking stows and minis for the rest (825 microline) and now they are all on heading. I am a lot better about flying through my openings now, too. This is the first canopy I have had that required "flying the harness" during the opening. I occasionally get closed end cells during openings, but I pack it to open slowly so that doesn't bother me at all. Overall I LOVE the canopy; it's the best one I have ever jumped. Arrive Safely John

As a rule of thumb, the less time in between AFF jumps, the better your learning curve. Make as many as you can afford as often as possible until you complete your A License check dive. I agree with the 30 day comments. Don't go past 30 days. Good luck in your training! Arrive Safely John

Since the "Raeford In April" heading might not attract anyone new for the next bash, I took the liberty of posting a new thread (at Jessica's behest) HERE in the Events and Gatherings Forum. I copied/pasted the most up-to-date list of attendees there. We need MAX participation!! Arrive Safely John
