Congratulations - it's a huge milestone to reach. They're gonna start ticking by like never before now that you're in four digits. BTW - my 1000th jump formation didn't build either. I got pied anyway. Arrive Safely John

Hey y'all, Sangiro posted earlier in this thread, reference the special place within Dropzone.com he has created for posting memories and photos of Holly. I have quoted it below just so we can continue to honor her in the highest possible regard. Arrive Safely John

I don't wear 'em, but I run into plenty of students that do. As previously posted, I have 'em wear good-fitting goggles, nice and tight, UNDER the helmet, and tape up the vents. I haven't had a student lose a lens yet. Arrive Safely John

Remember the movie Chitty Chitty Bang Bang? Dick Van Dyke was an inventor who had all kinds of gadgets to make breakfast, and other things around the house. The person who is famous for these kinds of inventions - finding a more interesting way to do ordinary things, was Rube Goldberg. I remember seeing the Chitty Chitty Bang Bang movie when it came out, and my Mom telling me about Rube Goldberg. I can remember a TV special about him too. The children's game Mousetrap is another common example of his style. This Honda commercial is definitely one of the best examples of this that I have ever seen. Thanks for sharing it! I work very hard at keeping my students focused on what went well in the skydive. Despite my efforts, most of them look at it as "what did I do wrong" and grab the old baseball bat and start beating themselves up. Remember the first time you dove off a diving board into a pool? You were instantly surrounded by a totally foreign environment, and if you were like me, you swam like mad for the safety of the surface - familiar territory. That sensation is called "sensory overload." It's what you experienced on your first jump. As you make more jumps, you experience less sensory overload, and eventually become very aware of what is going on around you. For me this has never stopped improving and I've been at it a while. The trick is not to get complacent! Repeating dives is sometimes necessary because some important skills must be learned before your Instructors pile on more or different ones. Don't focus on BAD stuff, just be clear about what you want to improve, retrain, and put yourself back in the air and do it! Arrive Safely John

Hola, Amigo! Welcome to the skydiving world, and to these forums! It depends on the altitude. I strongly recommend you consult your Instructor for clear answers so you know what your actions should be in each particular altitude range. Some altitudes require a ride down in the plane (too low for ANYTHING to open), in the next range going straight to the reserve would be necessary, and in the next using the main is fine. Ask your Instructor so you can be completely clear and in accrodance with you DZ's training as well as USPA's. Arrive Safely John

Wow, is THIS ever an old thread! I obviously missed it the first time, but have a coupla things to add: 1) I visited Perris back in January of 1992. There was a "little lady" there named Shelby, who had been working in an administrative capacity in the school. Sandy Reid at Rigging Innovations (in nearby Hemet at the time) built her a rig, and she went through AFF. Does anyone remember her? 2) There was a Tampa radio personality, self-named Dave The Dwarf who made a tandem at Z-Hills. The picture of that is attached, and the video is on the internet somewhere 'cause I've seen it. Arrive Safely John -
Excellent! Congratulations! A peaceful sunset solo load is one thing you have experienced that I haven't. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Your successful performance on that jump is a testament to your traing. Well done! Arrive Safely John

Yup - VERY expensive. At least until one has enough experieence, jump numbers, and ratings to make a little cash-ola to put toward one's addition . . . er . . . um . . . I mean . . . hobby! I jump a CYPRES with confidence. I consider it an investment, quite like life insurance. If y'all are interested, here's my opinion on AADs Manufacturer's info on CYPRES misfires can be found here: yet another clicky link Manufacturer's info on the Astra is here Not much on misfires, though. It also seems to not have been updated recently. I did a search on the PIA Riggers Forum for "misfire" and got nothing. Search for the same word here in these forums and there's plenty to read. I don't know anything about an Astra, but I have a great history with the CYPRES, including witnessing a live save in 1994, Read about that here in this thread My two cents. Hope it helped!

Do a search for "Suunto." There are three threads that have discussed them here before. Suunto is not the only make of altimeter waatch, just what seems to be the most common. Square One sells them as well. Hope this helps!

With A Grain Of Salt: Saddam Hussein USPA D-28907
slotperfect replied to slotperfect's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Taken with a huge grain (chunk) of salt, I found this on wreckdot: ##################################### Saddam hussein D-28907 The USPA acknowledges that there is a USPA member in Maryland named Saddam Hussein and has been a USPA member since 1996. ##################################### Fun to read about anyway, believe it or not.
