I'm on the last 10 minutes of my battery power on my laptop, been checking the weather.com & noaa pics of this bitch takin her time to pass! MAN are we lucky it's only a cat 2! I'm so sorry for the bahamas but thanks for weakening her I'll try to check in once the generator gets turned on. "I know it's friday night, but come on. This just sucks! I was supposed to do my first birdman jump in sebastian this weekend. My house is ready and now I guess I'm headed to the family's for a wild weekend of cards & book-reading. WOOH-HOO! We are taking this seriously - We only start the party until we're all locked in the boarded up house and there's nothing to do for 36 hours. It's that or go stir crazy... DUH!! I jumped an A in that area last year, can you send me the PM? It was 1780', w/elevator, right off I-10, in the middle of a big A farm. "I know it's friday night, but come on. Surely there's something better to do than yell at people on the internet?" - Tom A.

WARNING! Ignorant question from a newbie is to follow: Is this boogie only every two years? I have been drooling over all the cool pics & vids of the hercules boogie and finally ordered my first wingsuit, and now I have to wait two years? "I know it's friday night, but come on. Bumping this back up to find any further information about Esprits. I'm looking at a great deal on one, and would like to know the drawbacks. Hard openings, off heading openings?, How well would it handle being loaded at 1.65:1? "I know it's friday night, but come on. I was told that if you get a new rig and stuff something in it that's very tight for too long, you'll stretch out the main flaps & won't be able to downsize as much as you would like to later. I went conservative & got a G4 M5 and I might get picked on about having a big rig by some dz a$$holes, but I like that big reserve! And by the way, I fly a 170 that fits quite sweetly, so I can't imagine going down 4 sizes in the rig w/only 1 size down in the canopy! "I know it's friday night, but come on. Safety concerns about Lakes Wales
skyflyingbecca replied to edjackson's topic in Safety and Training
My 2cents: This "open door" issue is something that can be decided by pilots, skydivers, and DZO's at all their prospective dropzones. Even on this forum, we have seen different opinions by different pilots. I think the actual "safety" issue is of a different topic. The way the staff member handled this jumpers concerns! Some previous posts have recognized this and I think it is CRUCIAL to a DZ's safety. First, to have a personal concern dismissed is wrong. Second, to ridicule someone about their pilot chute dragging them outta the plane, insinuating "oh, you baby!" is absolutely inappropriate. Yes, every person, every staff member has a bad day, but it only takes one to make a BIG difference, especially in this sport. This seems to be common with the personality types that tend to flock to skydiving. I have seen many tempers flare over practically nothing, and I will admit even I have a horrible temper. But people and especially staff need to be cognizant of their weaknesses and attributes. If the staff member had a little while to think on his actions, the right thing to do would be to approach you, apologize for the ridicule, and explain this was local custom. Then you only have the door issue, not this staff member's behavior as a gripe. FINALLY, staff have a difficult responsibility. They are always watched, admired (by newbies)and their actions scrutinized (by other jumpers). They have a duty to be mature grown ups, to share their knowledge and experience. There are a couple people out there who are great skydivers, great teachers and coaches, but horrible staff instructors. They shouldn't take on the responsibility if they cannot be an appropriate role model. IMO. Rant almost done. 'Bigway's' post (2nd from top) is a perfect example. One line from it: "I feel no matter how stupid the question is that an instructor should always answer with an appropriate answer" If instructors would act as if they were being watched or recorded all the time they are at work, this wouldn't happen repeatedly. At least not at this dz. Sorry for being so windy, Blues everyone "I know it's friday night, but come on. Surely there's something better to do than yell at people on the internet?" - Tom A. -

Roger, I'm gonna miss you! I didn't get to know you long enough. You lived your life in the truest sense and form. Thank you for being such a wonderful person. Thank you for being you. Thank you for helping us build our dz! Thank you for getting your hands dirty with the rest of us! I was so excited to get to meet you, and was so amazed at your strength, your kindness, -
OMG These two leathery florida boys (and I was born n raised here but holy cow there IS such a thing as too much sun) who were a little outta sorts showed up and gave us the willies so we parted a tad early. Dunno why there were hanging out at the Zoo bar, they were definitely NOT skydivers. Who knows but we bolted anyway.... Craving pizza and odd parties to go to..... It was a great day and I can't wait to do it again! Maybe on the PM's 100th... What's his name again? Mike or somethin'? "I know it's friday night, but come on.
