  1. Well, I don't think I have any room in my laptop for another card..... Thanks guys for all the help! (above post edited to make myself look like less of a dumbass) "I know it's friday night, but come on. Surely there's something better to do than yell at people on the internet?" - Tom A.
  2. Alright, I know I sound like a dumbass, but I really need some help.... I borrowed a friend's Sony PC101 and filled up the tape, and now I need to get it on my computer. I went to Circuit City for the "firewire" cable but they told me I needed something else, and it doesn't work. It's a USB transfer cable, and there is a port on the cam for it but it's not communicating properly. Anyway, I can't find an actual firewire port on my laptop, so is there any other way I can get the footage on my pc? I have an S-video port, but that doesn't seem to be working either, however that might be because one of the pins on my s-video cable is broken I'm thinking the best way to get the footage on my pc is to find a firewire to usb adapter or something similiar..... does anyone know if something like that exists? 3. I hate you. I truly do. You bastard. So I got around to putting the few stills I got up in the gallery, can I throw in the ones of you too? Theres a couple more of you than me seeing as I was clicking Edited to add: OMG I friggin' LOVE the vids!! Hilarious!! "I know it's friday night, but come on. 4. The official name of Tom's winter BASE FJC class of December 2005. We have major ADD. What a couple of entertaining students we must've been. We had a phenomenal weekend. +/- 6" snow. Wow, how pretty! No, scratch that, how fuckin' beautiful! I never thought BASE jumping could bring such peace! What an amazing feeling jumping is.
  5. Ditto! "I know it's friday night, but come on. Surely there's something better to do than yell at people on the internet?" - Tom A.
  6. Sitting on a log? I dunno, I think it looks more like he's concentrating on pushing out a log! "I know it's friday night, but come on. Surely there's something better to do than yell at people on the internet?" - Tom A.
  7. LOL - Tell me about it! Ah, yes, the google search, of course Actually, I stumbled on an article about how Hemp got outlawed in the first place. Amazing story, it was a conspiracy by DuPont and some other powerful families who had a lot of money to lose if it stayed legal and a LOT of money to make if it was outlawed. A great story I think I'll post eventually. Anyway, I think it's a bad idea because the class knows I'm a FF and it wouldn't be good for the "public image" Ah, I like that one Damn I need to write that stat down somewhere - good one! Looks like the topic is going to be "What has been done in the name of religion" i.e. killing and negative stuff like that. It should be an interesting topic with a lot of history linked to current events. Thanks so much for all your input! You guys always come through! "I know it's friday night, but come on. 8. This thread is very helpful! (information and opinions up to date) Please keep it coming! Hey Jay, I am buying one in the next couple days as well, I wish we could get a group discount!! 9. Hey guys, anyone have an idea for a topic for a persuasive speech? It has to be 5-7 mins long, and something I feel passionately about. I can't figure out how to turn skydiving into something I could persuade someone about... Maybe why not to skydive? That could work...? I don't want to give it on "why you should skydive" I think that would be lame, and I already did an informative speech on skydiving and wingsuits physics. I have the kind of personality that I don't preach to people, I feel passionately about all those hot speaker's corner topics, but just as passionately believe we shouldn't "persuade" each other about anything, let everyone have their own opinions, you know? What should I do? Anyone have any topic ideas for me? Posts or PM's welcome, ok well I'm begging actually, I have to give the speech 8am monday morning Ack! I keep wishing it will just go away! Thanks for anything, brainstorm away! "I know it's friday night, but come on. Surely there's something better to do than yell at people on the internet?" - Tom A.
  10. OMG. I am laughing my freakin' ass off! I am in school in the library and sure everyone else thinks I'm insane! FCC NPS God ROFLMAO Too funny, thank guys for a great laugh! 11. I was chatting with a co-worker who just started a couple months ago, we were driving through town working on his addresses, and I drove by a local A I have been wanting to check out the landing area on. He questioned my intense study of the area, and I told him "Someday I'm gonna jump that". I never expected the response I got. This young, shy, quiet kid told me how he loves to climb towers. I asked him what he does when he gets to the top, and he said he justs sits there a while and takes in the view. "And then what? You just climb back down? Wow, that would really suck" But I guess it's all in perspective cause he said "Well, I'm sure as hell not gonna jump off it!" LMAO!! "I know it's friday night, but come on. 12. Yeah now that I am pulling at normal altitudes, my instinct keeps screaming at me during freefall that my alti is wrong. As a former freeflyer and new wingsuit pilot, my body clock has been thrown way off. Especially now that I am starting to pull at non-paranoid heights. First 10-15 ws jumps I was pulling at 5-7 cause I was getting used to unzipping as well as flying a new main (had to give up the Vengeance for a Sabre2 ) Meh, I don't miss freeflying or the unpredictable openings anyway. Last weekend at the Keys boogie, oooooh, jumping over a small island is also kind of a cool groundrush. At altitude, it's all caribbean-aqua with a little speck of brownish green, and as the skydive progresses, it's less and less aqua and then when you can see the houses it starts getting slightly alarming. Just a different environment I guess, but combined with my first full-length wingsuit flights, it was definitely weird. I just kept reminding myself mechanical altimeters can't break (unlike my friend's neptune that broke at that boogie) or at least I don't think they can break.. 13. Fantastic idea! It seems like things always go wrong when I'm not prepared. Maybe having all that equipment will ward off bad luck. Think about how you'll feel when you are on a jump, something goes wrong, and you left your bag at home. Think about how much easier it would be to bring someone out of a small canyon with a backboard vs. without one, even if spinal immob. isn't needed. The first day you're missing something vital that could've helped your buddy out will answer that question! Plus, being certified, you have the same training as the authorities, and especially in BASE, the less you have to call them, the better. If someone breaks a bone, twists an ankle, or has another BLS injury, all you need is proper training, a backboard, splints, and a couple jumpers. Carry out your buddy, put him in the car and drive to the hospital. The hospital doesn't call the cops unless a crime (usually against another person) has obviously been commited. And if you're not worried about the law or calling EMS, think about the $400 ambulance bill you'll save your uninsured ass. Disclaimer(to any idiots who might be on this board that shouldn't be): Do not hesitate to to call EMS if it is needed! Do not attempt to provide care you are not trained and currently certified in. The good samaritan law will not protect you unless you are current and certified. FYI: A BLS injury does not include loss of or altered level of consciousness, moderate or severe bleeding, penetrating or blunt wounds to the chest, or anything else you think might be serious! 14. I would be more than happy to help as well! I am not the best writer, but I am always catching typos and grammatical errors in books and it annoys me to all hell. Yeah, I'm a dork. "I know it's friday night, but come on. Surely there's something better to do than yell at people on the internet?" - Tom A.
  15. I started skydiving solely to fly wingsuits and BASE jump, although I must admit BASE was slightly more of a driving factor. The only skydiving that really looked fun was wingsuits, and it was the only thing I wanted to do then. I have dabbled in a bunch of stuff, but I still say my two disciplines are those, the ones I have listed in my profile, and now that my jump numbers are getting higher, hopefully I can concentrate on just them.
  16. Wow what an awesome video! That is one of my favorites to date, and I am a real wingsuit video junkie! For sure! I really, really hope that's true! "I know it's friday night, but come on. Surely there's something better to do than yell at people on the internet?" - Tom A.
  17. LMAO!!! Oh, you guys are awesome! I am so glad I got to hang with ya!! Bolas, I have those pics downloaded to my computer finally, I hopefully will have them uploaded to the net soon, been having technical difficulties "I know it's friday night, but come on. 18. Oh how sweet!! I happen to have a 4 day weekend that weekend!! Looks like we will FINALLY be able to met and jump together! "I know it's friday night, but come on. Surely there's something better to do than yell at people on the internet?" - Tom A.
  19. Not without me you don't!! I've been trying to get more current for the last year so I can get out there and haven't had a chance yet, now that I'm ready I have to wait for the spring "I know it's friday night, but come on. Surely there's something better to do than yell at people on the internet?" - Tom A.
  20. Tee hee I didn't actually say that! I was talking to a friend when I mentioned I owed a mutual friend some money. I either stated or was asked what the money was for, and upon mentioning I was buying a rig from him, you overheard him ask me how many rigs I have now. I wouldn't mention that unless asked. But alas, now the secret is out. However, I only have 3 wingsuits, the one you were holding for me was a first generation Gti, the fabric is thicker, that might be why you thought it was a classic. Yeah, so I guess I'm a collector.... I buy stuff with the intention of using it, but then I find other stuff I like more and have trouble selling stuff. Sometimes I buy stuff I am not ready to jump yet, cause I keep thinking I am jumping at my old pace and will be ready to downsize sooner than I can. I got over 200 jumps my first year, and only 18 last year Technically I never bought the Talon rig I have, it was given to me and then it turned out I had to put about $300 into updating it. It got me through my first slew of jumps, though, and helped me out alot when money was tight. I don't even know how many mains I have, last count was 7, so if ya ever lose a canopy when Pete's not around, I always have one handy you can borrow! I really did bring an extra main to Palatka for that purpose! I also bring extra risers, slinks, pilot chutes(Pull out and throw out), alti's(I had to use my backup on saturday when I misplaced my primary one), lotsa extra goggles, and of course you always might need a crescent wrench or zipties, rubber bands, tube stows... I stopped bringing extra helmets a couple years ago, they're too bulky. Hey I like to be prepared! Just wait till I get my rigging ticket and then I will have to get a van! Seriously, though, I do have one Mirage G3M1 with Unisyn, one old talon complete with reserve and zp main, one Gti, a couple jumpsuits, one helmet, and a couple mains that I think I can manage to part with if anyone's interested!
  21. AMEN, my brother!!! No, didn't notice, too busy getting my breath taken away! I did notice that it looks incredibly awesome and totally fucking amazing! LMFAO!!!! "I know it's friday night, but come on. Surely there's something better to do than yell at people on the internet?" - Tom A.
  22. Hmm, interesting thought..... BTW Tom, (I know you were asking Matt, but I always have to put my $.02 in!) I absolutely adore my Phantom! But, as Matt pointed out, I am also learning on this suit, I did my first 3 jumps on a Gti, the next one on a Prodigy, and I found them all very easy to fly considering my new-ness. I also got to get a close look at a sugar glider this weekend and I think it might just be my next suit (in a couple hundred jumps) Amazing craftsmanship and quality! But very different! Rky, I think a Gti is a great suit for starting! It has amazing range for flocking with other beginners to keeping up with more advanced flocks you'll be doing in 100 jumps! I have never ever heard anyone say anything bad about it, the hard part in being a chick and getting a used suit is finding one to fit you properly. (See next paragraph for more info) But I agree with Matt that you should do a WS jump first to make sure you are ready for the nylon crack before the investment, I didn't get the impression Pete is in too much of a rush. AHEM.. Anyone else in the market for a couple used Gti's? Yes my dumbass bought not one but two before I buckled down and bought a new suit. *Price discounted dramatically (after I saw what Pete is selling his beautiful one for) "I know it's friday night, but come on. 23. Yeah... OUCH!!! I have a little hole in my toe, my toenails are scraped up, a big ol' bruise on one leg, the other all scraped up, and my left paw is still bruised and scratched up. Well, I'm a sissy, ok?!?! My jumpsuit is all f*cked up but that jumpsuit was an ugly piece of shi.... poop anyway. (I'm trying to work on my cursing.) THANK GOODNESS IT WASN'T MY NEW WINGSUIT! I woulda just cried and cried! Those same weird hog flop jump winds shifted me to the taxiway about 50 feet up and my DAMN non-airlocked canopy was bucking around like crazy! I sure as crap wasn't about to turn (even a flat turn) at that altitude just to land on something soft. I let it take me there and much to my dismay, no one even has video of that HILARIOUS landing. Well, it's hilarious now, after an hour massage, a french chick walking on my back, the steam room followed by a quick sauna..... and now I can laugh about it. Seriously, I dunno what hurts worse, my legs from that landing or my neck from... well I dunno what that's from, but I suspect the electric 8 way It was worth it though! How fun! As long as that flashing wasn't my corneas burning, that is the BEST game ever! Thanks Art and EVERYONE else up there in Palatka!! You are ALL just as sweet as shi.. no that doesn't sound right. You are all as sweet as sugar! I can't thank you enough for a well needed hiatus from work and hurricane-related stress! "I know it's friday night, but come on. 24. Happy happy happy birthday baby!! I hope you get something great! "I know it's friday night, but come on. Surely there's something better to do than yell at people on the internet?" - Tom A.
  25. Poooor baby - if you think skydiving is great, just you wait for the events! I'd stay away from jumping at the bigger ones for a while tho, it can be pretty dangeroous, but the spectating & socializing is well worth it!!! you lucky bastard! Doesn't sound like too much goin on tonight Yeah!! Only 8 more hours!! "I know it's friday night, but come on. Surely there's something better to do than yell at people on the internet?" - Tom A.
