I think it might have worked, the sky is all clear here! But its only like 15 degrees out. So hopefully my little sun dance last night worked and some of you will get some jumps in this weekend. Oh and one more thing for God's sakes be carful out there!!

Congrats man!!! so what is the magic # anyway?
-
I think I might have an extra one !!!!

hey, if I remeber correctly a sun dance is made by running up and down the street naked with one of the Native American headresses on right ? Anyway I'm give that a try and hope that works Oh and don't worry Sis I've done this before!!! ( If they gave out licenses for doing this, well lets just say that I would have a D ) Edited by ColdDuck on 3/23/01 09:50 PM.

Iam just wandering what is the coolest DZ you have ever jumped at ? And while we are on the subject what is the worst DZ you have ever jumped at and why ?
-
Yeah Silver Lake is like 10 miles to the east. Anyway Hutch can get quite busy in the summer especially with tandems and AFF. But if you are in the area this summer you should definitely come check it out !!
-
Once again I know what you mean. I started my AFF last fall and then I ram out of money and good weather. So now I have to start all over again but oh well. I think starting over might be the best thing me for anyway (that last statement was the booze talking I swear)

In one of my previous posts I asked you guys and gals about gear advice for a novice. Most of you suggested demo jumping all the gear I could. Which raised yet another whuffo question. From whom do you get demo gear to jump ? Is it the DZ or the manufacturers or both ? BLUE SKIES

There have been several times when I have seen experienced jumpers at my DZ surf their canopies along the ground during their landing and they do it all the time. And the DZO's don't seem to have a problem with this but they do have a major problem with hook turns. This summer a jumper got his ass chewed for making a hook turn but I did not see it. So I would assume that swooping and hook turns are different. (If I'am wrong someone please correct me)

Hey I know what you mean. I am from Hutchinson and its true they do jump out here on weekends during the winter. Supposedly if cover up its not that bad. I was talking to one the DZO the other day when they were jumping I would guess it was right around forty degrees out and she said it was beautiful up there no gloves or nothing. However I believe you must have a license to jump out here during the winter i.e no AFF jumps. which sucks for you and I. But I think you should definitely come out here this spring, there are quite a few jumpers out here that come from the cities.

I like the Mardi Gras or the Tye Dye one. Oh and by the way how did you get those images of the canopy onto your sight. I have tried picking color schemes on there and when I go to print I only get half of the canopy.

Difference between a HOOK TURN and a SWOOP landing
ColdDuck replied to ColdDuck's topic in The Bonfire
I have heard both terms used a lot here and to be totally honest I'm confused as too what they are exactly. I have heard a lot of people discourage trying them (hook turns I mean). I know my DZ does not allow because from what I have heard that had a nasty accident out there a few years ago. And after hearing how that guy ended up I can say hook turns scare the shit out of me and I am not even sure what they are yet. So if anyone could describe what a hook turn is and what a swoop landing is, oh and if they are not the same how do you make a canopy swoop. I'm just curious I am not in hurry to try one I am perfectly content with simple landings If you look under the Dropzones link you will see a lot of DZs allow hook turns. If they are so dangerous why do some places still allow them. Edited by ColdDuck on 3/21/01 09:47 PM. -

Question about # of repeats allowed in AFF
ColdDuck replied to ColdDuck's topic in Safety and Training
I jump in Hutchinson Minnesota at Skydive Hutchinson. I see you are from the cities , it is only about 45-50 minutes west on HWY 7 or 212. If you haven't jumped there before I would highly reccomend you do sometime Tim and Rose operate the DZ they are both very cool people and so are the other jumpers that i have met maybe I'll see ya out there Oh and before I forget thanks to everyone who responded! -
Wingnut do you mean the song by Adam Sandler ?

I don't mean to brag but from the time I got my drivers license until alst summer I drove a 1984 Chevy station Wagon Lt. Blue. It was the blue torpedo. The good side was that it was free ( my grandma couldn't drive it anymore). It got like 40mpg. And most of all it would go through anything. I would drive through corn and bean fields with if, that how we used to hunt in high school ( after they were harvested of course) I must have ran into thousands of snow banks with it . I even won a race one time with it ( No I;m serious). But this summer it crapped out on me one day (big suprise). So about a week later I fianlly got a nice vehicle I bought a brand new 2001 Ford Ranger 4x4. Of Course this was 2 weeks before I started skydiving. Looking back on it if I could have known I was going to start skydiving would I have bought this truck ? Never in a million years.

I know exactly what you mean Picture this I live 5 minutes from my DZ. Which you might think is pretty convenient. However for the last 4 weeks or so people have been jumping. If that isn't bad enough when the plane takes off it flies directly over my house. I 've gotten so good I can tell whether or not its the King Air taking off before I can see anything. This justs pisses me off So sometimes I 'll make an excuse to drive by DZ on the weekend just to see whats going on. I always end up giving someone a ride who landed out in the boonies. Which I don't mind it just makes me more envious Oh don't worry it gets worse the store I work at is about 200 yards away from the DZ. So from time to time while I'm carrying some dipshits crap out to their car I look up and see people jumping. About this time the customer who had to park like two miles away notices the jumpers and aks me if I could ever jump out of a airplane. I was so pissed I just mumbled NO! Anyway the 3 feet of snow is starting to melt here finally.

Iam currently still on student status however, I have been looking at what type of gear I might like to buy once I'm on my own. The most popular canopies for novices seem to be the (Sabre, Triathlon, Spectre, and the Silhouette) at least those are the four that I am considering at this point. Seems like most people at my DZ use a PD canopy of some sort. So if anyone could give me some insight on which one of these canopies you would reccomend to someone recently of student status. I am looking for something that is fun, easy to land, and if possible relatively easy to pack. Iam also curious about containers. From what I can tell my DZ heavily supports the Mirage. So naturally that peaked my interest in that container. However I was wondering if there are some containers that are meant only for experienced jumpers. (Mirage's website said they make rigs for experienced jumpers only ie. no student or tandem rigs) Any advice or insight would be greatly appreciated BLUE SKIES !!!!!! Question about # of repeats allowed in AFF
ColdDuck replied to ColdDuck's topic in Safety and Training
Last fall during my AFF Level 2 jump I did not do very well, and subsequently my two jumpmasters suggested that I should try level 2 again. I know that the purpose of their decision was to make me a better and safer skydiver. Of course I began to fear that sooner or later they would not let me go on. Since then I have not gone any farther with my AFF training, due to the balmy weather in this frozen hell-hole called Minnesota during the this last winter. Any way my question is whether or not there is a certain number of times that you are allowed to repeat levels before the DZO or a jump master will say enough is enough ?
