It is where a whole bunch of alcoholics and rec. drug users get together, socialise, and collaborate in their skydiving problem!!! as the old adage goes....my drinking club has a skydiving problem!!!!!HA! Kia Kaha, Pyke NZPF A - 2584

Omri...it took me about a month...and then I had to contact THEM. After that, they 'marked' my form to come out asap and I got it about 3-5 days later....REMEMBER THOUGH...you are an international member...so it could very well take 2x as long. I only live 3 states from the office, but it still took me over a month. Hang in there....if anyone queries you about your validity...send 'em to us...we'll set 'em straight!!!!! Cheers, Kia Kaha, Pyke NZPF A - 2584

didn't know about the d.b. cooper latch "thingie-ma-bob" but I do know that Mr. Cooper was former Airborne and knew what type of plane he was getting on at the time (he researched the types of aircraft used and chose the one flight with that specific type) as he had jumped them in the airborne (or knew how to because of it - either way) That has always been a big interest to me....did he make it??? Damn, I wish they would have found more proof! Kia Kaha, Pyke NZPF A - 2584

Me too! Gotta love 'em...don't know what it is 'bout 'em, but ask any man and he'll tell ya.... Boobies RULE HOORAY FOR BOOBIES!!! Kia Kaha, Pyke NZPF A - 2584

my thoughts exactly, and you will learn Medster, that it couldn't have been said better by anyone more appropriate!!! Cheers to you /s, hope your weekend was well, I couldn't jump here, but that is my fault...the weather was FUCKING BRILLIANT in ATL. Kia Kaha, Pyke NZPF A - 2584

No shit, this happened to me as well. Coming from NZ I specifically asked for an exit row for the leg room and when I joked with the agent that I was a sport jumper and would have my rig on board, she not only refused to let me sit there, she had to give me an "official speech" about how serious it was to sit in an exit row in the case of emergencies. JESUS people...lighten up! A door opens (or part of the plane comes off) at anything higher than 25,000ft and you will most likely black out until the air thickens, so you won't be doing more than a hop 'n pop anyway! HA!! anyway, yeah, these gov't agencies really need to pull that dead thing out with some decent sized pliers!!! Kia Kaha, Pyke NZPF A - 2584

Excellent story, Omri...What a great translation too!!!! Ok, I hereby officially change your forum to FLYBABY and so it is said, so it shall be done. all shall now refer to him as such!!!(just wait till the pub this week!!) Our own celebrity in Israel...FLYBABY Galili...Awesome. First article in the newspaper....BEER!!!!!! Well said anyway, dude. You captured a lot of "truths" about it for whuffos in Israel(i.e. what is it like? "jump and find out!"). Hope your 800 members grow because of it too! Cheers, Kia Kaha, Pyke NZPF A - 2584

I will post my two guesses.... one thought is to FL to be near the better weather and bigger dzs, the other is back to your homeland (which I have been told was S.A. but I could be wrong) good luck with your move...I hope you like where you are next as we will miss you being in SF Cheers, Kia Kaha, Pyke NZPF A - 2584

Dan, you can find heaps of pics of Icarus in art books during the renaissance period by some of the (lesser known) greats. Also, I know you would get it mistaken all the time for the band, but (and I am guessing here/as well as showing my age) I think Led Zepplin has a great pic of Icarus on an album cover that would look great as a tatt. Good luck, I am still looking for my next one, but may have my idea already thanks to a friend of mine. Kia Kaha, Pyke NZPF A - 2584

Thanks Sis for the warning, and the plug. You are correct in your assumption. Having jumped in (yes, so far only GA, but 3/4 of the dz's) and I think I am allowed to say all over NZ (even though I didn't do ALL dz's), I would have to say that between Dunedin Harbour on the S.I. of NZ and (its a tie b/w) Taupo and Rotorua, NZ is where it is at for ME!!! I did one jump in Auckland, and it wasn't anything to shake a stick at, but the dz was mostly to blame for that one. The view was nice on the ride, but you couldn't see much of the coast from Mercer. I really wanted to jump over Paihia, but I only had my A and you needed a B (dammit!!!). I reckon that one would have ROCKED!! Wanaka was spectacular as far as views go, you get it all!!!! A huge mountain lake close to the dz to look at just outside the window. The ocean within reach of the horizon and a spectacular coastline. Snow capped mountains and ski resorts just off the lake. Mt. Cook, the Crown Range, Mt. Aspiring...ALL amazing mountains to view from the distance...and don't even ask me about the sunset loads. There is so far NO COMPARISON!!!!!!! Aside from my ramblings on NZ, I have a strong interest to jump in Monterey Bay & Byron next time I visit my Mum in CA, San Marcos and Dallas next time I visit my Dad and Bro in TX, and I have tentative plans on the books right now for a week long adventure to Lapalisse with a certain someone who doesn't know yet, but again, we shall see on that one. Florida looks cool, but i have heard not in the summer!!!bugs! P.S. and Des, you wouldn't have been able to jump over Q'town even if you wanted to. They are strictly a Tandem operation and don't support sporties unless you work there, or want to go through the ringer just to jump once! Believe me...some of us tried when we got rained out over Wanaka, and it wasn't worth it. But, the good news is, the guy who owns Wanaka is negotiating Q'town as an alternate dz for boogies and rain-outs!!!

Best advice I can think of..as I have pondered this very quesiton myself is.... become a silent(ask yourself first if you can truly be SILENT) partner in an operating dz, that way, you make a certain percentage of the takings, for a while/years/decades, while being involved in the understandings of how it is run and what it takes. Then, if you feel this is for you, and you follow the advice from above and get all your ratings, and certs out of the way, you can go to a bank and offer less risk to a banker than a newbie with a bright idea!!! good luck, and let us know where it is and when it opens, as all your dz.com buddies should get their first jump free!!!!!!! At least Sangiro, if nobody else!

yeah, it was all good. My 100th was "completely official" from the actual skydive where my p/c was pulled around 5k to the pie-ing (being electrical taped to a chair and having EVERYBODY get a pie in). Yes, the video is classic and I am glad the STREAK wasn't caught on tape (you are too, trust me!!!) Hey, no one ever said white boys can't run, we just can't jump!! But who cares about starting from the ground and going up, I would rather jump the other way any day!! Sunday was spent with my pa, cyber, so sorry I wasn't there to get given more shit. I hope to be out there this weekend, but we shall see. I need to earn some more money, so now maybe I should get into the rest of my packing training! and, somehow I don't see that video making the forums, but I have no objections to it. There are some stills floating around, so maybe those will get posted!!! Kia Kaha, Pyke NZPF A-2584

I ticked the second because if you have a bag lock and you are that low, you definately want to be opening your reserve, but you also don't want the shock of the reserve to unlock the bag(potentially) and give you two canopies. So, in my opinion both answers don't say it all, because rather than one at a time, I would be pulling both simultaneously. my .02$ Kia Kaha, Pyke NZPF A-2584

Yeah Dutch, where were you?? A group of us Monroe-ites decided to drop in on your "GREAT" dz only to be there almost by ourselves. Your "self proclaimed" Super Otter is nothing more than a Twin Otter, so I ask you what makes it "super" other than the fact that it is at your dz!!!! The rides up take as long as our King Air in Monroe. The weather almost put us off, but we still managed to squeeze 2 loads in!!! So hopefully that might put an end to your "Well, if you're happy to stay at your dz" rants, as I have been there, done that, and didn't bother buying a t-shirt. So, where were ya??eh??? It is bad enough when a comrade falls in the sport, but it is infinitely worse when it is someone closely known. My heart goes out to the family and the children left behind. Brokeneagle, my deepest sympathy. My thoughts are with you. Try not to let this "break" you even more Kia Kaha (stay strong in NZ Maori) and high spirits. Kia Kaha, Pyke NZPF A-2584
