Not only do I hate people who get more jumps than me in a weekend, but I HATE people who get more jumps than me in a weekend!(take it to mean whatever you find more important!!!) Wish I could share your enthusiasm(doh!!) Congrats though, and did you consume the beer...before, during, or after??? Kia Kaha, Pyke NZPF A - 2584

Well, I haven't yet, but everyone at Monroe (Cyber can attest to this) has given mine one.... It ranges from anywhere between "the dinosaur", "that old piece of sh#@", that "ugly ass rig", and of course my riggers favourite, "well, I wouldn't jump it!" So, they can yuck it up all they want 'cause I am about 2 paychecks from a used Javelin and hopefully about 2 more from a main!!! Kia Kaha, Pyke NZPF A - 2584

I'm with you Zen!! I have over 100 now and if it gets bigger than 4 I suck at it....but as I was always told when I first started jumping...even after 200 jumps you are still going to suck, so don't let it bother you. It is always a learning curve...you suck at two ways...then get better at them, but can't turn 3 ways...you get those and can't go bigger...etc, etc. I am only NOW getting to where a four way can turn more than 4 points, and this is with a ever changing group, so don't listen to anyone who says "you" screwed up the dive. Chances are...they are covering their own ass. And as for feeling bad about screwing up others jumps...well, hell, it they were really that uptight about jumping and not doing anything...then tell them to join a team. Weekend jumpers in my experience DON'T CARE if they turn 1 point or 40, they are out there to get in the sky and have fun doing it. Half the time I have zooed a dive for others...the story of the zoo was more impressive than the dive itself. Well, I don't know if this is any comfort to you, but hang in there poppet...she'll be right!! Cheers, Kia Kaha, Pyke NZPF A - 2584

To address the hand signal question: I don't know if anyone else was taught this (seeing as I had instruction in another country), but I was always told that "universal" skydiving hand signals were around. If you hold your fist in front of someones face, it means dump, but if you hold your fist against an open flat hand pointed up (kind of like a martial art bowing/praying gesture) then it means take caution/extra time when you dump. Now, recently I was talking to two AFF instructors who were acting as "students" during a coach's training course and they were discussing one of the candidates' jumps. The point was brought up that coaches "are absolutely NOT allowed to direct a person to deploy", but I argued that if you saw something 'off' then you should be able to WARN someone that they should take caution/extra time when dumping. Both agreed with my point, but being the good instructors that they are...erred on the side of the USPA and went with "NO, regardless". I guess my point is...I DON'T CARE WHO I AM JUMPING WITH...IF YOU SEE SOMETHING WRONG WITH MY CONTAINER IN FREEFALL....YOU BETTER BLOODY WARN ME!!!! anyone else?? Kia Kaha, Pyke NZPF A - 2584

So then...riggerrob...are there any reserves you would feel more comfortable overloading than others. e.g. I use a Swift Plus 145 and at almost 200 out the door, this is about 1.38p/p/in2. My rigger claims he doesn't like Swifts because they don't use a hot knife to cut the fabric so you get lots of strands of loose thread coming out. Does this affect the wear of the reserve at all? He is a big fan of Raven and PD (as are most jumpers), but is there anything really wrong with this?? Cheers, Kia Kaha, Pyke NZPF A - 2584

You'd hate Atlanta then....but not just for the reasons you mentioned you WEREN'T looking for, but also 'cause you would have a 1 in 4 chance of running into me at a boogie...and I think we all know who would hate that the most. Kia Kaha, Pyke NZPF A - 2584

FFF, Hey man, could you send me an email with the characteristics of the javelin you had in mind. I am looking for something in a particular size...(ie. J1 C-17), so hopefully this rig you mentioned is close to or there..otherwise, I can tell you now...gone are the "make do" days..my legs can't take the opening shock of a smaller container anymore. Get back to me - cheers, Kia Kaha, Pyke NZPF A - 2584

I asked this very same question to my rigger when I bought a new reserve recently (used one, not a *new* one) and he said... "All reserves are drop tested to 254lbs" , so that overloading their "recommended" weights would have very little impact. My concern still lies in the fact that 1) you may be going quite fast and deploying a reserve close to or over its weight limit (from what I know about physics) coupled with your velocity, may OVER-overload it and cause it to mal as well 2) you never know what kind of a mal you're gonna have so it is always difficult to judge how you are gonna need it. So, I don't know if you can "concretely" say that overloading a reserve is still okay, but I guess that is why the factory *recommends* loading at certain weights. They have already done all the math involved. Kia Kaha, Pyke NZPF A - 2584

I was just wondering.... I am considering getting a new container and while I am a firm believer in Javelin (odyssey - if I buy it new)...I was talking to someone this weekend about the Voodoo container and he couldn't shut up about it. Overlooking his zealous impression...what do any of the Voodoo flyers in here think of them?? Are there any?? (I am a belly flyer, but *may* try freeflying later in my career, so it isn't much of an issue now) With the reputation behind Talon...and taking all the options that you pay for in a Javelin and making them standard with Voodoo, it sounds like this may (MAY!!) be a better option. any takers?? I am guessing here, but I would have to say that A) she can certainly see why guys would want to do her and therefore she recognises how beautiful of a woman she is...or B) she recognises how strong of a woman, how independent, how unique, and also how beautiful of a woman A.J. is and therefore has a lot of respect for her, but can't see herself sleeping with her....or C) she is really a closeted lessie and well, doesn't want to break out on the forums and come out as she still isn't out in her real life!!!!! I go for C...it is more thought provoking and gives me the *warm fuzzies* in that special place!!! Kia Kaha, Pyke NZPF A - 2584

Wow, it is not often that a skill I have ever comes in any use.... But...I studied it for 3 years and while it has been over 4 since I have had to use it...my reading comprehension was always more advanced than my speaking. so, Diva, if I can help, go ahead and send it to me and I will have a crack at it...if nothing else...it will give me a chance to break out my dictionaries and texts again!!! Not that this is terribly factual...but I remember reading an article on wingsuit jumping and they were saying that they have plans to make a wingsuit that will stall out at a certain angle (in hopes that it will eventually equal that of a ski jump landing field) so that one can fly the wingsuit and land on a slope that is gradual enough to ski down....... thus eliminating the need for a parachute at ALL. so, to answer the question...will it happen in this lifetime....I can see it!!! They are already half way there (in theory!)!!! Cheers, Kia Kaha, Pyke NZPF A - 2584
