Yeah Mama...should be fun. I got into it because my sister works at an environmental engineering firm and she got asked by someone she knows. She didn't want to do it, but passed it off to me. The last concert was Trey Anastasio (lead singer of Phish). It was alright...not my cup of tea, but still a good crowd and *some* good tunes. We always need more volunteers, so if you're keen...let me know. Don't know what is next on the play bill, but we do the biggest venue in town...so it can't be all bad! I'll address this issue....I pay an annual fee to belong to a nationwide collective/organisation of like-minded individuals. I expect/hope that every other member of this organisation feels the same towards skydiving as I do...and wants to help PROMOTE this sport, both to the general public...and within the existing community. Now...what I can gather from this SDLV situation is that he wants the benefits and the accredidation that come with paying dues to the USPA, but he doesn't want to share his toys with anyone else in the USPA. I ask you all this...does this sound fair? Should we continue to provide the benefits of our collective voice and collective resources to an individual who refuses to reciprocate? I, for one, am very outgoing with ANY of my belongings pertaining to skydiving...and pretty much the rest of my life. You want to borrow my rig for a jump? Go for it! You need some goggles...I got two sets! Wanna beer, but don't got money...here...enjoy mine with me. Wanna go up for a 2 way and just play...let's go - who cares how many jumps you have (thanks for that one Andy! Promise to keep it going) But...if you don't want to allow me to do the same...then we have an understanding. I won't bother you and you don't bother me....just don't expect me to be outgoing anymore. So, I guess the point to this is....should we voice our concerns to the USPA to disallow SDLV to be a member of our organisation...if he isn't going to open his doors to visiting jumpers OF OUR organisation? Be a business...make money...only do tandems for profit...don't allow jumpers to visit who haven't taken *your* AFF course....but don't get any benefits of the collective voice if you're not willing to put yours into it. I HATE freeriders!!!! Economics (c'mon PT..help me out) tells us that it is beneficial to businesses to freeride for their own $$ gain, but if you can identify the freeriders...then you put an end to the problem. Yeah...it may have the potential to raise their costs in the short run...but in the long run...we ALL benefit! (we get another potential place to jump!) Hey all...sitting at my desk....just watching the time tick away...and am getting excited about this weekend. So, I thought I would start a thread so that everyone could post their *plans* for the weekend...then we could come back and say what *actually* happened on Tuesday. Sound fun? Okay, I'll start... Friday night - get off work...volunteer at the Matchbox 20/Train concert here in Atlanta trying to fight for a cleaner environment...after that ends, drive to the DZ with all my gear and trunk full of beer hoping to hook up with Cyber and finish them all!!!!!! Saturday - having slept in the hangar (or wherever I end up) get up and pack all day (gotta earn some $$ somehow). Enjoy the frosty ones at BEER-thirty!! Sunday - wake up whereever I am...pack for half of the day...then flag packing other people's s%&t for the day and go jump!!!! Do as much RW as possible (needs lots of work) and drink more when the BEER LIGHT goes on!!!!! Monday - jump (if he is open) all day...otherwise...hang out with whomever is there....and probably end up drinking the day away!!!! Go home...dread Tuesday morning! To address the issue of an impact at high speeds....only a motorcycle helmet is rated for high speed impacts...so REGARDLESS of what you have on your head at the time of a high speed impact...it won't make THAT MUCH difference. My mother worked in neurological rehabilitation for years...and from the evidence I have seen...it is as much fate as anything else. If you're gonna knock your dome...you're gonna knock it. Full face, poly-whatever, extra-strength, super-duper....don't mean SHIT!!! That thing is going to break off your head like an eggshell. NOW, conversely, impacts in the air...and some slower speed ground impacts will be GREATLY reduced by the advantages of a full face or hard-shell outer.
