I beg to differ. it depends if you have good scenery or not. we have hundreds of glacial mountans in view and an amazing blue lake so the bigger picture is important. we have two newbie camera fliers. they do an o.k to good job. the image of them coming down to the tandem pair is amazing and impossible to carture with handcam. so an o.k. outside cam is better than a good handcam.

I know a very experienced instructor who is a dzso that didn't check the gear before the jump. there was a 'new packer' that wasn't a skydiver at the time? a mis-routed bridle led to a drougue in tow. so after releasing both ripcords the reserve was fired and had line twists. because the drouge was still inflated the line twists would not untwist. he released the brakes but the tension on the lines would not let the lines on the reserve up to make the canopy fly in full drive. he wiggled them a bit but they would only come down but not go up . he then flew at the mercy of the wind to save what possible flare he had left for landing. he is still a dzso. totally unavoidable and stupid. + nice exit shots (facials) + nice opening shots (facials) i also agree that the use of handcam only will minimise the pool of talented/experienced skydivers to take on the role as tandem masters. however both ouside video and handcam have advantages and disadvantages over the other. handcam doesn't capture the scale of the experience and does not capture the views as good and outside video 9.5 time out of ten does not capture the expression of the customer on exit and opening also what the customers emotions are directly after freefall, some of these comments are priceless. around here we have spectacular scenery, it would be a shame to not have the outside shot. i think a combination of the both of them is ideal and is offered at a few places. if the video is edited on a computer with both of these angles then oooooh baby that's the bombdiggity right there. how many incidents have there actually been that have been caused by the presence of a hand cam? they are used all over the place in australia? I have met a few tandem masters that do not fun jump anymore and do not have thier own rig. I find this to be wierd. i have just got my tandem rating and intend on fun jumping forever. there is so much to learn. does that desire fade a little every time you throw the drouge or is it an individual thing? I have also noticed experienced jumpers not learning new disciplines and even mocking them and it seems to me that it is mainly a case of not wanting to look like a learner. any thoughts. i don't want to be a grumpy tandem master that 'only' does tandems. odyssey containers are very nice but that damned main flap is the only thing i dont like about them, most other manufacturers seemed to have changed to the vector3 style main flap thet stays closed even when the main is deployed. Personally I think they do not want to change the 'look' of the jav rather than changing for the sake of safety. if they did change it i would want one. my $0.02 sorry for butting in. is the main bigger than what is recommended for the container? i am looking at jumping with a ball too. there is no ball master available for me here in tandem factoryville but i do have a d.z. nearby that i have talked to that will allow me to jump one.(they are in a dessert and will spot me miles from anything?) the first people to jump a ball wouldn't have had ball masters? vladiballs cost nz$70+ once you get them here. the price of 2 jumps. tennis balls and lead shot cost bugger all. someone i know jumped 3 vladiballs and dropped 3 vladiballs.= expensive. if preperation of the ball going in is made (jumping in a dessert) then whats the problem?? i'm still going to do it i have permission. if someone would p/m me the correct proceedures to construct 1 that would be greatly appreciated. yes it is an airspeed rig. i have one of the them. there is 9 in total. three of them are owned by people i know and no problems with them. store them on a shelf rather than hanging on a rack otherwise the riser covers will come open all the time. well your mate walt up there was trying to tell me that the crime stats in new zealand are higher than the states and as i told him i leave my house unlocked and the keys in the ignition of my car and can walk home by myself at night without worry. alot of peple do here. so if these stats are correct. you're carrying a gun for no reason at all. you are asking for guns to get into the wrong hands and therfore unessecary deaths and injuries. look at the stats on that one (gun related deaths in the u.s. compared to any other contry in the world. i am far from embarrassed, i do think the us population as a whole is quite ignorant and stupid. i don't think this is the fault of the u.s. population but a product of the immense brainwashing that you are subject to. i have many friends from the u.s. and i think it is a beautiful place and many other counties are just as bad or even worse. in this neck of the woods americans are called seppos, short for septic tank rhymes with yank. and they are both full of .... i am 'proud' that my country has minimal voilent crime but that is increasing due to the exposure of the violence you have in your country and the portreyal of violence being cool. i.e. gangsta rap and all that SHIT. back to the debate. i think it is great that these stupid event are being ommitted from the london olympics. there is NOTHING athletic about shooting a gun. and yes it is my informed decision to live here i could live anywhere i like. i have a dutch passport and could live and work anywher in europe. i think i will just visit though i think, because i live in paradise. You have made it clear that you know nothing about guns. That's fine, it's your choice to make, but it really doesn't sound like you have made an informed choice. Like it or not, there are some very bad people out there that will, with little reason, try to harm you or steal or damage your property. Fend them off with your water pistols if you wish, but I prefer the idea of putting a shitstorm of bullets between me and them.
