Rds's were developed for swooping. However, reducing drag and giving a larger field of vision is not only beinificial if you are doing high performance landings. In heavy traffic or a deep spot over a cold lake, when the wind has suddenly changed direction(I have been in this position in queenstown, NZ) An rds could save your life. Up until now they have been unavailable and we have not really 'needed' them. As they become more available and more people use them they will come down in price and perhaps will be an option on all canopies in the future? Hi Scotty, Just recieved the JVX. I won't get to jump it for a while as I am the only instructor here since Nick left. The plane costs US$200 to take to altitude with a tandem and leigh on camera. so not much cheaper for just us two. I was going to splash out on a load but decided the money would be better spent during our training session in South africa and Namibia in a couple of months. The spot looks steep enough in reality but ui Havn't launched an 84 before! Leigh is giving it a crack with her omega too. I have just ordered a RDS for my canopy and i will be going to terminal 90% of the time. I did some research into it and found that the Para concepts RDS built in chicago had the best system for my needs. the thing is the primary use for them is on high performance canopies they didn't have an option for a Pilot but i'm sure it would be easy enough to construct one in the same dimentions as your slider? talk to Para concepts; Sales@para-concepts.com they were nothing but professional and timely with my order so I have to recommend them for that. and their system looks the most like a conventional slider that i have seen! be safe. rhys "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix

we are talking about someone new to camera flying with wings, we are not talking about the worlds best flyers. Filming a 400way is much different to filming a tandem or 4 way etc. someone new to flying a camera suit should not have the large wings that extend to their legs for safety reasons... unless they are very heavy (to be a little more Politically correct). there is more danger and more to think about with those type of jumpsuits. and 90% of the time they are an over-kill so in turn restrict the new camera flyers abilities. After being in kilimanjaro, Africa for a couple of months I had resigned myself to the fact that there is too much brush and scrub to ground launch the awesome geography there is here. I have a JVX hybrid84 so I'm sure the neos wouldn't even compare to that. I am just interested in the difference of performance of 3 x-braced cells or sail cloth on the top. two different means of gaining performance on a non/partially crossbraced canopy? What I want is a canopy for ground launching and demos into small areas, also big ways with heaps of traffic. I'm pretty sure the GLSxf with come off on top for the pure reason that the sail cloth would make it handle the great outdoors better. But that is just for my needs. I'm also interested in the Whole Daedalus Icarus ownership thing. But at the end of the day whatever happens none of it would have happened without Gyro from NZAerosports. He is the mastermind behind Both companies. along with Lord slaton the boundries of canopy flight and manufacture are being pushed to a level unimaginable only a few years ago. I'd rather have someone do it who knows what they're doing. You do not need wings that extend to your legs unless you have eaten too many pies or drank too many beers. As i said my small wings start at my elbow and finish at the bottom of my ribcage. The wings are purely a triangle of material that can cope with rigorous flapping(ZP or similar) it is completely sewn into the seam running inside the arm and down the side if the jumpsuit. You can then make the wing smaller or larger as required with trial and error (and some unpicking and sewing). also each rig has a different main lift web and hip ring/ leg strap placement. you can make the wing fit into the hole between the MLW and the container exactly. If the wing is to big for your harness it can damage the main lift web. And the wings that have adgustable wings with velcro are the worst for this. My friend had significant damage to her main lift web due to this on her brand new mirage with less than 100 jumps the yellow line in the MLW was broken and the harnes should have been relaced at that point. i have seen people purchase camera suits(tony suit, RMW etc.) that have too large a wing and they have to live with it. your suit should fill your exact requirements to fall in a neutral position when in front of the subject you are filming most often, to have maximum range of flight while filming. nothing is worse than footage from somebody with an incorrect jumpsuit for the subject they are filming. so they have to just sit in front of the subject. because they don't want to sink out or float. That shit is boring to watch. It is better to decide for yourself if you need more or less wing and have it ammended for free or cheap, at or close to home. you do not need to be a rigger to make a strong seam you just need to know how to sew. if you don't then your mum, auntie, gran or neighbour probably will. if you have trouble working out how to do it, Ask you local rigger! don't settle for what you get until you are satisfied. If you film Strong tandem, Vector tandem, aff, freefly, RW, etc. the requirments change. only you know exactly what you want. you can order one and pay mega $$$ but you don't have to and it might not be the best for you. so two new canopies in the medium to high performance category? the neos has 3 xbraced cells and the GLSxf has sail skin. I wonder what the performance difference is using the two different performance enhancers? anybody jumped both? (not likeley yet!) the GLSxf sounds more like me, but i want a ground launch canopy and ZP canopy gets rinsed out to quickly while GL'ing. Being able to use it for demos into tight spots and big ways is a bonus only if it doesn't take too long to open though. Any thoughts? The best for you is not the best for him or her! I use a freefly suit that has some small wings added (by me). I have to fall extremely fast and also very slow as i am competing in freestyle skydiving. I tried baggy arm in the beginning but i found it harder to go real fast as i couldn't get rid of the drag. You don't need to spend heaps of cash on a camera suit. modify a freefly suit to your needs because you will find you will need to adjust the design until it is perfect for you. Can you sew? can your mum? It is easy to split the seam from the elbow to the bottom of the ribcage and insert some wings. I used a double layer of ZP and strengthened the edge with two lines of stitching. hope that helped? It is all about votes too, No? I'm sure those in the senate want to keep thier positions regardless of what party is in power or that they belong to? If they want votes then they want to please the population. I'm sure if a member of senate puts forward the wrong doings then the rest of them will have to consider it? they would have watched bush abuse his power over the last few years and i'm sure many of them would have cringed at some of the abuse of power. I am willing to share what I know about ground launching. I have about 150 flights on many different canopies from a F111 maberic 200 to an FX94. It is not nessecary to have a ground launch specific canopy to begin with but it is nessecary to approach the new sport in a safe manner. You will in time lust after a GLX or GLSxf though as they are Ideal. I also learned the tricks of the trade off paragliders and the paragliding training hill closest to you would probably be the best/safest palace in your area to learn. There is a GL specific forum at canopypiloting.com and I just replied to a similar question there. I too found when I was starting that no one would give me the information that I needed. I guess no one wants to be resposable for injuries by giving bad advice? I do feel that more information is needed to be available for safety reasons. Also I know people like yourself and myself will just go and try anyway. I won't post full details just yet as it will take time to write it carefully enough to not get the wrong message across. Start by learning to kite your canopy above your head. you can do this in your front yard if there is enough wind. that is always the first step. watch how the paragliders do it! VX is old hat like the Velocity. More than 7 year old technology. More modern designs are available now. cough, cough, JVX, cough. The most popular could be measured by sales and I would assume the velocity would be the leader there.
