It's as simple as this, every time you jump something new or different, practice what you want to do up high. For landings work it down (to ground level) gradually. Practice, practice, practice. Everytime you jump something new you should be wringing it out before you get close to the ground and then landing conservitely until you get to know the new animal you're flying. How much can be written off? I've got a 1099 for about $4400 in '03 and didn't spend much on gear or equipment. In the past I've written off rigs, misc. gear and mileage (mileage just for when I was working). Always been able to write enough off to stay below schedule SE filing but won't get there without gear, etc. and need to get income as low as possible. Everyone's made good points, but, no one mentioned how much time you'll spend away from home. It can be hard on the family life. I made about $4400 part time last year and am comfortable with that. I was on a load with a girl at Lake Wales several years ago that had what I think you're looking for. It looked like a cameye on her helmet without any video stuff, so I asked her, "What's that?". She explained that it was an audible wired to a light that flashes. Keith ''Always do sober what you said you would do drunk. That will teach you to keep your mouth shut.'' - Ernest Hemingway

I've got a niece over there too. She will be heading to SA about the same you do. She's probably doing some missionary work though. Have fun. Keith ''Always do sober what you said you would do drunk. That will teach you to keep your mouth shut.'' - Ernest Hemingway

One of the clubs I jump at is considering selling a Tandem Vector. (I'ld rather they didn't) I'm hoping someone can ballpark a value for it. This is NOT an advertisement! Details: -Tandem Vector II, I think late '80's, ? # jumps -PD 360 reserve, used about 10 times (max) -PD 425 main, 6 years old, less than 400 jumps, relined before 300, 2 small patches by PD -drogue, bridal and bag replaced 3 years ago -factory inspected 3 years ago I understand RWS may not supply parts and service after another 8 (?) years or so. Ever lost your cut-away equipment?
iowa replied to thermosnight's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Six cutaways, never lost a thing. CRW has cost me a couple of shoes though. Keith ''Always do sober what you said you would do drunk. That will teach you to keep your mouth shut.'' - Ernest Hemingway -
I know who you mean. The pilot said he wouldn't do it again. Keith ''Always do sober what you said you would do drunk. That will teach you to keep your mouth shut.'' - Ernest Hemingway

Carlos is a funny story. LMAO I had one that the ground crew said was plenty nervous. I thought it was a put on because she was so brash, kinda cocky for a girl. She sucked her thumb the whole ride to altitude. No shit. I talked to her and tried to calm her. Didn't help. She performed flawlessly anyway. The one that kept saying "I'm scared. Where are you?". I was talking to him the whole time. He said that 5 or 6 times. I was worried that he would freak when we got close to the ground (I told him several times to relax and keep his hands on his harness) and reach back for my handles. He behaved fine, just thought he had voices in his head or something. He said he would come back for another. Haven't seen him. I was LMAO as soon as he was gone. I would like to know who left you with that impression. I see opinionated assholes like that from every disipline. Fortunately they are rare. Listening to them is just like reading these forums. Turn your filter on or just ignore them. Sometimes they're good for a laugh though. Like your post. Keith ''Always do sober what you said you would do drunk. I've been jumping with a herniated disc, C-6 - C-7, for a few years now. Hasn't bothered me (jumping wise) since it first happened. It was caused by a very nasty, violent malfunction on a Tandem. Blew three ribs nose to tail, six or seven line twists with my head pushed farther forward than I thought possible. Had to take a few weeks off jumping but didn't know I had the hernia for a year or so when I started having numbness in my left arm. Cortizone, physical therapy didn't seem to help but the numbness gradually faded. I still make 200+ jumps a year. I guess you have to weigh the risks/rewards for yourself. Another opening like that could wreck me but I still do tandems. Good luck. Keith ''Always do sober what you said you would do drunk. That will teach you to keep your mouth shut.'' - Ernest Hemingway

I've been using baselogic.com. Blincmagazine.com worked fine. Guess I need to change my bookmark. Thanks Tom. Keith ''Always do sober what you said you would do drunk. That will teach you to keep your mouth shut.'' - Ernest Hemingway

Is any one else getting this? It also says Error 403. Been getting since Thursday. I emailed Mick Sunday but haven't heard back yet. Keith ''Always do sober what you said you would do drunk. That will teach you to keep your mouth shut.'' - Ernest Hemingway

Calling those who have jumped in Texas
iowa replied to AggieDave's topic in Skydiving History & Trivia
The good old days. I jumped there from '85 to'88. I was in Steve Van Burens Beech when the chain was jumping around the sprocket. The gear ended up being jambed. We all bailed out at 5000'. Steve burned off fuel for a while and bellied her in as well as could be done. I have video of the time some people painted Steve Hasketts 182 to look like the one in Fandango for his birthday. Great times there. A lot of firsts. CRW, 9 stacks, night CRW. The RW was good too. Graduated from a T-10 to a Para-Comander and from belly wart to piggybacks. Speaking of Jon Yonke. Anyone know where he is these days? Keith ''Always do sober what you said you would do drunk. That will teach you to keep your mouth shut.'' - Ernest Hemingway -

Should 'PRO' Requirements be Increased?
iowa replied to airtwardo's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I've been stewing on this for awhile. I agree the requirements are too low. More to the point, too easy to pencil whip. (I've never seen that but I hear things) I think the key might be better education. A course conducted by a limited number of course directors. A PRO IE if you will. You would still have to show up with a completed proficiency card and have to make 3 or 4 more jumps for the weekend course. Most of the weekend would be classroom, ground prep, and safety issues. If such a thing were to happen, I would not like to see any waiting period like the thing with people scrambling to get thier D license. That or a no grandfather clause. (ouch) All that would raise the price a good bit too. Keith ''Always do sober what you said you would do drunk. That will teach you to keep your mouth shut.'' - Ernest Hemingway
