If your RSL is hooked up and functions properly you won't beat it. But never count on it to do the job for you. On most containers the RSL will kink your reserve ripcord somewhat. It may still be fine but your rigger can tell you if it needs to be replaced. Keith ''Always do sober what you said you would do drunk. If they don't arch when they're supposed to or after I yell in thier ear "arch" and we are'nt belly to earth then I hook 'em hard (unless they're 50+ years old). If they're young and/or reasonably fit it dosn't hurt them a bit. It always has turned us face down with just a bit of muscle input the way you want go. If thier legs are out and we're belly to earth I won't hook 'em until after the drouge is out , and then only if they won't arch when I yell them to. You're right in that all exits don't go as well as we would like. That's where patience comes in, work them as best you can and trust that you can make them arch and then get stable before throwing the drogue. Timing it should be a last ditch effort if you can't get stable. Never give up! Keith ''Always do sober what you said you would do drunk. It depends. Some dz's may only have one AFF instructor so they start you out with tandem. Some start with tandem just because they prefer that method for the first jump. Call the dz's in your area to see. Keith ''Always do sober what you said you would do drunk. That will teach you to keep your mouth shut.'' - Ernest Hemingway

Have you talked to Jay Speckeen in Vinton, IA? He mentioned doing one 2nd or 3rd weekend or whenever the weather looks best. Contact at jay@paradise-skydives.com. I'll be there to help with evaluation dives if he needs it. Keith ''Always do sober what you said you would do drunk. That will teach you to keep your mouth shut.'' - Ernest Hemingway

Mary Ellen from The Waltons used to jump in the 80's. Maybe still. I saw Stephen Baldwin wearing a closing pin necklace on Fear Factor. Keith ''Always do sober what you said you would do drunk. That will teach you to keep your mouth shut.'' - Ernest Hemingway

Hey Tom, Your "lecture" (My First BASE Rig) is still up on the home page under Latest News. Nice job with that. I've searched and tried links but can't find anything on the Vision or Gravity Sports Limited. Can you help? Also is The Rock Hopper still around? I'm a big guy too and guessing you're recommending the Flik 322 to Mike because of size only? Are your "thoughts on specific situation" personal or specific to Mike only or could you share that? Thanks, Keith ''Always do sober what you said you would do drunk. That will teach you to keep your mouth shut.'' - Ernest Hemingway

Hello anti downsizing canopy nazis ;-)))
iowa replied to Beppo's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I don't think anyone here is being nazi about downsizing at all. Maybe just trying to help others avoid the pain and/or ambulance ride. Downsizing too much and too quickly hurts and even kills our friends. Flying a highly loaded wing safely takes experience that needs to be gained over time and with downsizing in a reasonable progression. I think most everyone finds themselves in that corner where we shouldn't be sometime. It's experience that keeps it from going from bad to worse. It's experience that keeps us from being in the corner more often. Keith ''Always do sober what you said you would do drunk. That will teach you to keep your mouth shut.'' - Ernest Hemingway -
I do Vector and Strong and thought it was happening on both but mavbe it's more common with the Strong. I see it on other Tan I's where I they use the Strong but when I use Vector I'm the only Tan I at two smaller DZ's so now I can't remember it being rig specific. This was discussed in S&T forum. Are there ways to minimize the slap from tandem risers? Until now I've discussed it locally and I guess we just figure it's part of the job and deal with it. Bill Booth, can you shed any light on this? Keith ''Always do sober what you said you would do drunk. That will teach you to keep your mouth shut.'' - Ernest Hemingway

I can sympathise. I've had a lot of riser welts on my neck and even bloodied my ear through my frap hat. IMO it's from getting your head off to one side of the students. If it ain't off to the side it going to hurt your nose so we just deal with them. Seems like it happens every 5 to 10 jumps, but not as bad as yours was, just welts. Maybe just a fluke or some sloppy packing. The only real painful opening I had was from ripping 3 ribs nose to tail. also, I wouldn't hold thier heads. I like to keep my hands free so I can smack thier hands if they reach over thier shoulders toward MY handles. Keith ''Always do sober what you said you would do drunk. Hang in there. It took me a while to get over that too. Think about the positive and try to relax. Try to get more jumps in when you're there. More often would help even more. Can you jump during the week at all. Keith ''Always do sober what you said you would do drunk. That will teach you to keep your mouth shut.'' - Ernest Hemingway

I've made about 150 jumps on the EZ 425 and think it's a real good canopy. Flys nice and lands great, the extra flaring toggles are real nice if the wind isn't strong, I get stand ups with fairly heavy loads that even surprise me a lot. I hear the new canopies with the Sigma are better though. The 425 isn't as fun to fly as Strongs Set 360, but most first timers can't stand that much fun anyway. I could still make 'em puke with the 425. Keith ''Always do sober what you said you would do drunk. That will teach you to keep your mouth shut.'' - Ernest Hemingway

No reason skydiving has to be done until spring. Some DZs in Iowa and Illinois are open all year long. Some days are better than others and you need to dress for it. I haven't missed a month in almost four years. Stay warm. Keith ''Always do sober what you said you would do drunk. That will teach you to keep your mouth shut.'' - Ernest Hemingway

Been lurking awhile and figured I should say hi. One question, is there a list of common acronyms around here somewhere? Keith ''Always do sober what you said you would do drunk. That will teach you to keep your mouth shut.'' - Ernest Hemingway
