Good work! Keith ''Always do sober what you said you would do drunk. That will teach you to keep your mouth shut.'' - Ernest Hemingway

I jumped one a few times this year. I liked it. Landing characteristics were similar to a PD VS425 and better than the SET 400 that I usually use. I heard others complain of the toggle pressure but I it didn't think it was bad at all. I liked the collapsable slider too. Not everyone may be able to reach it though. I don't know about the others you mentioned, but, all around it's way better than the SET and a little better than the PD 425. Keith ''Always do sober what you said you would do drunk. On the Strong student harness' we use have the option of clipping their ripcord on thier hip or chest strap. I prefer the hip (the chest strap slides up and down). The other is fixed on the TI's harness outboard on the main lift web below the cutaway handle. Keith ''Always do sober what you said you would do drunk. That was me. Strong rig. Student handle was floating and I did have the instructors handle on my rig. I felt the loose handle flop by right after exit or right after the drogue throw. Checked my handles and confirmed that the student handle was floating. I had plenty of time so I thought I would see if I could reach it. Couldn't. Then docjohn flew in and handed it to me. Cool. Since I had it I figured I might as well use it. Hey Doc, you didn't really save my life but I still owe you a couple cold ones. Keith ''Always do sober what you said you would do drunk. Why should I be in a hurry to throw the drogue? Thanks for helping out with that Doc. Good flying. Keith ''Always do sober what you said you would do drunk. That will teach you to keep your mouth shut.'' - Ernest Hemingway

I bought the new one a couple of years ago. All they did was edit out the exemption part. I guess I could have done that myself. Keith ''Always do sober what you said you would do drunk. That will teach you to keep your mouth shut.'' - Ernest Hemingway

I'm calling bullshit on that too. Doing the first two or three AFF jumps as a tandem costs more with the training. If you're made to do a "fun" tandem before starting level 1 (cat A) then that is bullshit. There are pros and cons to starting to both ways of beginning AFF. If you've had four floating puds in 100+ jumps, you have a serious gear issue. The only thing I can see doing that is a 1980's design pud. I hope your rigger fixes that. It's unlikely (but possible) to have a two out with a pud in tow. The only real influence on how a two out deploys would be the order (and the difference in canopy size) and how close together they deployed. If you're getting a two out you pretty much already don't have any influence left. Keith ''Always do sober what you said you would do drunk. I checked it. His D lisence is listed in July 2002 Parachutist. His instructor rating is current on USPA's group member listing. WB, I wish your wife a quick recovery. Keith ''Always do sober what you said you would do drunk. That will teach you to keep your mouth shut.'' - Ernest Hemingway

It's not a plane. It's very unique, even strange. Maybe scary. Keith ''Always do sober what you said you would do drunk. That will teach you to keep your mouth shut.'' - Ernest Hemingway

I was thinking this was a troll too. Maybe, maybe not. Seems fishy though. The description, from an instructor, of the incident is vague and really doesn't make sense. Keith ''Always do sober what you said you would do drunk. That will teach you to keep your mouth shut.'' - Ernest Hemingway

A lot of the people "hooking it in" weren't planning on hooking it in either. It's often a response to a surprising situation followed by a surprise in how the new/different canopy reacts that hurts you. You need currency, practice and the patience to make reasonable progressions. Some good coaching helps a lot too. Keith ''Always do sober what you said you would do drunk. I had an article published in March. I wanted another copy too. Before I got around to calling them for one I got one in the mail along with a check. Keith ''Always do sober what you said you would do drunk. That will teach you to keep your mouth shut.'' - Ernest Hemingway

The Pro Swooping Tour has some irons in the fire. Keith ''Always do sober what you said you would do drunk. That will teach you to keep your mouth shut.'' - Ernest Hemingway

I have a friend that does. It's also a long checklist of items checked, replaced or repaired, and of course the bill. It's a good thing, I think. If I can find one of my copies I'll post it. Could you sew another loop (catseye) above your normal SU loop and use that to go through the toggle hole and then the toggle through the loop. Would that be quicker and easier to change than the knot? Or would the second loop be too close to the brake setting loop? Just a thought. Keith ''Always do sober what you said you would do drunk. The best way that I've heard for long locking stows is to twist them several times. That shortens the loop (hole) and only leaves one wrap around the lines. You can vary the number of twists to get it as snug as you want. Keith ''Always do sober what you said you would do drunk. That will teach you to keep your mouth shut.'' - Ernest Hemingway

You're doing it by the book. Can't fault that. I don't usually hook them back up, but they don't know that. It unnerves some when you say you are unhooking anything. Keith ''Always do sober what you said you would do drunk. That will teach you to keep your mouth shut.'' - Ernest Hemingway

I always used to have them help land. Early last year a passenger dropped the toggles as I turned on final. After we landed the light bulb came on "that was a lot easier to land without fighting his adreniline". After talking to other TIs that land without help I began doing all (except cat A, B and those that really want to) unaided. It is so much easier to nail the landing without saying, easy, easy, not yet, etc. and sometimes having to hold back pressure on those wound up young guys. Most of the girls and small guys wouldn't make much difference but unless they mind, I don't need thier help. Keith ''Always do sober what you said you would do drunk. Four in almost 500 tandems now. My first mal ever was as a passenger for a friend working on his rating. It was kinda cool to have someone right there to talk about it. That was a lineover. Next as the instructor had a very nasty, violent opening with about seven line twists. Unspun, went past straight flight with a twist and a half the other way. Came back around and had medium turn and dive going. Turned out to have blown three ribs nose to tail. Broke a brake stow locking loop (new risers were ordered, [I know better] ) Reached for the toggles and the other broke. Went into a hard diving turn and spun itself up. Riser broke right after opening once. I look at the rigs and look after the maintenance better now. Keith ''Always do sober what you said you would do drunk. Wasn't a repost. The first one was about Deuces pics. This one is about an article that I wrote. My first. Keith ''Always do sober what you said you would do drunk. That will teach you to keep your mouth shut.'' - Ernest Hemingway

Practicing rear riser manoeuvres at altitude
iowa replied to conor's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Practice up high until you are comfortable with the feel of it. Find out where the stall point is with the rears and DON'T EVER GO THERE CLOSE TO THE GROUND! Other than that Chris nailed it right on. I used the "no sew finger trap". Works real slick. Keith ''Always do sober what you said you would do drunk. That will teach you to keep your mouth shut.'' - Ernest Hemingway
