  1. My GF is allergic to most things outdoors, unfortunately the desert is not a good option, she hates the heat. Currently we live in Iowa, the corn is a bitch for her. We're thinking some where in California. Keith ''Always do sober what you said you would do drunk. That will teach you to keep your mouth shut.'' - Ernest Hemingway
  2. Head, who said head? I'll take some of that. Keith ''Always do sober what you said you would do drunk. That will teach you to keep your mouth shut.'' - Ernest Hemingway
  3. That's cool. Yesterday or the day before was the 100th anniversary of the first woman to make a parachute jump. That was Tiny. Keith ''Always do sober what you said you would do drunk. That will teach you to keep your mouth shut.'' - Ernest Hemingway
  4. Thanks all. I will check for burrs on the hook before I call a repairman. Keith ''Always do sober what you said you would do drunk. That will teach you to keep your mouth shut.'' - Ernest Hemingway
  5. Apparently I need some education on sewing machines. I don't know what a short scarf is. What I know is that it worked great until I bent the needle. Should I take to a repair shop? That's a real pain with the oil bath and the size of it. Keith ''Always do sober what you said you would do drunk. That will teach you to keep your mouth shut.'' - Ernest Hemingway
  6. It's in as shown in the manual, all the way up with the long grove on the left [opposite the clamping screw]. The new needles don't have a flat side on the shank like the one that was in it when we got it. I just compared the original with the new [special order for this machine and size wanted]. The old needle is only slightly bent at the tip and has a flat side on the shank but only a short groove on the left. The new ones have the long groove like what is shown in the manual. They also look to be about 1/16'' shorter. Keith ''Always do sober what you said you would do drunk. That will teach you to keep your mouth shut.'' - Ernest Hemingway
  7. When I was using it last it was running like a champ until I slightly bent the needle going through several layers of cordura. Had to get new needles and now it'll work ok for an inch to six at a very slow pace but as soon as it picks up any speed it frays and breaks the top thread. Any suggestions on what I might have screwed up? Keith ''Always do sober what you said you would do drunk. That will teach you to keep your mouth shut.'' - Ernest Hemingway
  8. I'll buy one. Keith ''Always do sober what you said you would do drunk. That will teach you to keep your mouth shut.'' - Ernest Hemingway
  9. I've had three, two were real but not serious. The second was in a Huey with only four of us in the helicopter at 10,000' when the engine went ''kawampa wampa wump'', our friend and fellow skydiver the pilot turned and looked at us like 'what the fuck did you do?' We returned looks that said 'we didn't do nothing Fred' and he said ''Get the fuck out!''. We did, opened right out the door so he could have airspace below, did a three stack with a follower and landed after the Huey. No explanation for the noise. The third was in a Beech with tricycle retract (H-18?) and I was standing up front and looking down at the chain jumping around on the spocket making sparks after takeoff. I told the pilot and he found that it was jammed and would not go back down. We all got out at 5000' and he bellied in the plane on the grass as well as could be expected. Now the first one; I had a little over 100 jumps and was going through the static line jumpmaster course (1986) with my mock student, 6'-8'', 4000 jump skygod, former Golden Knight, yadda yadda, when we're on jump run and the pilot tells me I can open the door (C-182), When the door opens he cuts the power and noses down the plane and yells ''Emergency, get out!''. Well, I completly forgot about my mock student and did a perfect hop and pop and watched the airplane power up and fly away. Didn't pass that part of the test. Hey Chuck, do you remember that one? 10. Not quite as old as you Twardo but that downsize from the T-10 to a ParaComander was huge. Keith ''Always do sober what you said you would do drunk. That will teach you to keep your mouth shut.'' - Ernest Hemingway
  11. 'The Pioneering Days of Skydiving' Just finished the book. It was a fun read with lots of great stories. Keith ''Always do sober what you said you would do drunk. That will teach you to keep your mouth shut.'' - Ernest Hemingway
  12. You left off babysitter. No, not the one babysitting my kids. She used to babysit me. 15 or 20 years later the cougar pounced. It was a fun night. Keith ''Always do sober what you said you would do drunk. That will teach you to keep your mouth shut.'' - Ernest Hemingway
  13. There is a fourth possibilty. Main reserve entanglement. All you can do with it is try to seperate the two or get one working. Never give up. Keith ''Always do sober what you said you would do drunk. That will teach you to keep your mouth shut.'' - Ernest Hemingway

    DONATE BLOOD!

Never had a problem with it. I usually donate on Thursday and jump on Friday. And I smoke too. 2.5. Blood Donors. Sport parachutists are advised that parachuting and giving blood are not compatible. Whilst the quantity of blood is quickly replaced after donation, the necessary oxygen retaining qualities required at altitude are not. Keith ''Always do sober what you said you would do drunk. DONATE BLOOD!

I do, every eight weeks. When my daughter was six months old she was diagnosed with leukemia. She's 22 now. I figure I owe the world a few pints. Keith ''Always do sober what you said you would do drunk. That will teach you to keep your mouth shut.'' - Ernest Hemingway
  16. I do this on my CRW canopy, a Lightning 176, using a small rubber band at the B line attachment. I double around the mesh part of the slider. The lines are stowed in a tail pocket and the canopy is free packed (no bag) so every little bit helps. It's fairly common for CRW. Keith ''Always do sober what you said you would do drunk. 17. My little girl (OK, she's 22) is going to Chile to continue her Spanish education for a couple months. She's flying into Santiago and has a ride to her guest home in Valparaiso. Any places I should tell her to avoid? Any must see, must do things? Looking from sattelite maps it should be a beautiful part of the world to visit. I wanna go too. 18. Could you please explain what a leaning harness is? Never heard of it. I have an image in my head, but... Keith ''Always do sober what you said you would do drunk. That will teach you to keep your mouth shut.'' - Ernest Hemingway

  20. Good question, good answers. I was told I should use at least a class 6 card for loading speed to the computer. Is there any advantage to using class 10? Keith ''Always do sober what you said you would do drunk. That will teach you to keep your mouth shut.'' - Ernest Hemingway
  21. >BUT, I first jumped with a side mount camera when I had just over 100 jumps and >never once did it affect my performance in the sky . . . I very much doubt that. I started jumping a camera in bigways at about jump #1000 and I wasn't aware of the problems it was causing either - until I got told "lose the camera or you're off the dive." I was flying more poorly because I was aware of where the lens was pointed. But if you had asked me before Kate had talked to me I would have said "never once did it affect my performance in any way." +1. Well said, Bill. For everyone that claims the camera doesn't affect performance or that it isn't a distraction, I just set it and forget it.... I'm calling bullshit! I didn't start really jumping camera until after 3000 jumps and I've made several silly mistakes caused by too much focus on the camera. Little things like forgetting my altimiter or to switch from my usual sunglasses to my jump ones. I've made mistakes with the camera getting in a hurry on jump run. I've seen friends make the same kinds of mistakes and many more. Like not doing the chest strap properly, the list goes on. I've seen one and heard of another where the camera person actually got on the plane without a rig! Seems obvious but they both had thousands of jumps. They were distracted by the camera. The 200 jump # is for the exceptional jumpers, not just everyone. DSE's Small Format Camera Incedent list is a MUST READ for anyone thinking about flying camera. 22. In 1400 tandems I've had a few that I wondered if they weren't having more fun that they should have. I had one that definently did. She was a 3rd grade teacher named Gina. Funny how I remember that one. Of course the video was to show her students. She was scared to death while getting harnessed up and the whole plane ride. She came out with her gung ho sister and another friend. Her sister ended up being a puker. She was litarally crying most of the way to altitude. I did my best to comfort her, tell her how safe, how much expierence, blah, blah, blah. Once we got out of the plane I could tell she was having fun, interacting with the video guy, etc. After opening the parachute and doing the usual loosening, stowing and now it's time to turn... ''Do you want to do that again?'' ''Yeah, yeah.'' And it kept going like that. After we landed and uhooked she was standing, bent over with her hands on her knees, breathing heavily, and she said ''That was like great...'' and then realized there was a camera in her face. Someone later confirmed that she admitted to a few orgasms. I did NOT touch her in any inappropriate way. But it made my day. I think for her it was a very emotional experience and that's what made it happen. Keith ''Always do sober what you said you would do drunk. 24. This thread made me dig out my old Hybrid Tri. The label only says Triathalon 175. Nothing about hybrid or CRW. But it was made for freefall and casual CRW. It does have the retract rings and bridle and I switched the lines to a dacron CRW set years ago. Keith ''Always do sober what you said you would do drunk. 25. Sent you a PM. Best you can is probably Davenport, IA. Keith ''Always do sober what you said you would do drunk. That will teach you to keep your mouth shut.'' - Ernest Hemingway
