I think you know what my answer would be on that. Just becasue medical advancements make something possible, does not make it desireable. Why not just create a clone? That does not take any partner, but most people realize that nature never intended life to be created in that way either. Thanks for the fun. This is better than Crossfire, but lets face it, nobody is convincing anybody of anything.
-
Sooooo sorry for my grammatical short-comings and mis-use of words. YES, I meant bear. But then again, you brought up MJ, and child molestation during a gay marriage debate, not me.
-
See response to wmw999. It's a good tact to take, but it does not hold water. You cannot compare a medically defunct heterosexual couple to a biologically incompactable homosexual one. One cannot have children due to one medical reason or another, the other was NEVER meant to have them. Surely you can see that difference.
-
They should be able to have children by adoption, medical treatment, or whatever methods can assist them. But, I see you coming from a mile away on this tact. Just becasue a man and woman medically cannot have children, does not put them on par with same sex couples who were never biolgically meant to bare children together.
-
Nice anaolgy, but it doesn't make your case. Granting children to gay couples can hardly be compared to providing mobility to the handicapped. A very typical, and weak, liberal point.
-
"by saying that because nature has biologically prevented two people from having children, and therefore they shouldn't be married, you are also excluding all the hetero folks with fertility issues, my own parents included!" No, that is not what I said. I said that nature has excluded gay couples from reproducing, demonstrating that nature is very clear on who and should not raise children. Allowing gay marriage would reinforce gay couples who want to adopt children, which is against nature. Therefore, gays should not be permitted to marry, or raise children.
-
I'm sure I will regret even bothering with this but.... "Furthermore, since fewer gay couples have children, that further reduces medical expenses on the national level" Gay couples cannot have children, period. As nature has seen fit to prevent this, I believe that the law should also prevent this. Rudy Guilliani was just on Fox news the other night and summed it pretty well. "Marriage is for a man and a women. Gay people can live together, have a civil union, or whatever, but cannot marry. There is no discrimation there." Man and women marry, same sex couples have civil unions. I feel that is fair and that the vocal minority should not get to change an entire society so that they can feel better about themselves.

Hey Gardner, I was suggesting that Jonny's method seemed drawn out, complicated, and resulted in an equal or lesser outcome of the standard pack job. I agree taht your (the standard method) takes a minute and has proven to work well. I don't think Utah's method would open any slower, but would certainly open no faster. All stowed PCs can hesitate. An extended centerline would seem to reduce the possibility. The worst method I've seen is the burrito. If you absolutely can't afford a hesitation, go hand held.
-
An interesting and complicated method of getting a PC packed. If it works for you, great. I prefer PC pack jobs that include an extended centerline, as without centerline extension, the PC won't work. 1. Start with PC hanging by the the bridle just below the base of the PC. 2. stretch mesh around and towards the bottom of PC, and then squeeze air out of canopy fabric. 3. Make 2 short, tight s folds of mesh just above the cap, and contain that wad in the cap. This will be your handle, and you can adjust the size of it withthe size of your S folds. 4. S fold remaining mesh and bridle below (actually above, but it is upside down) wad and contain with remaining canopy material. Options: S fold bridle on outside of canopy and mesh for quicker deployment. Requires no tools, no flat surface, and takes maybe a minute to do. See CR manual or video for similar pack info. I recieved knowledge of this enlightened pack job while studying the Budda with the Dalia Lama on top a high peake in Instanbul. Cya.

I have to say that this is an interesting, if not frightening discussion. I wonder where Outrager will weigh in on this topic.

and how much canopy skill is one to get from this carnival ride jump?
-
And we know what happend on that wingsuit jump. (sound of rock dropping stright down) Everyone does agree that it can be done and 311 is living proof. He also says that its not the smartest way to do it and does not reccomend it. Of all the people to support this idea I am surprised at you Tom. You've advocated the minimum jumps and proficiencies and FJC for years. This wouldn't have anyhting to do with a move to the potato state and a certain new BASE school, would it? (just kidding, but it sounded good).

Me thinks I detect a Rastaman with those colors. If this is the case try the gold instead of yellow. It seems to work better in that sceme.

Its because it is right, period. I'm not sure where this is coming from with you Dog. This isn't even a difficult question. You want something to be different from what it is but no matter how hard your try or for whatever reason you've chose this, you will always be wrong on this. I'll try an anology, although I know you will have an "answer". Lets say that there is "extreme" bouldering, and that it all occurs 1000' above the ground and any mistake will kill you. Why would anyone attempt to learn the finesse moves, gain the strength, get acclimated to the gear, and otherwise become cofortable with placing their very life on the line for something they have no practical experience with when they can otherwise learn 3' from the ground with a soft mat under them if they don't quite get it right the first few times? This is exactly what you suggest, and although some may make it clearly many would fare much worse. Why, logically, would one not persue skydiving first other than your (preceived) social issure at the DZ?
-
Damn Ray, This is the funniest shit I've read in years. This should have been on the base board, but it would have been edited for humor. Keep up the great work! Tree P.S. I would have applied but I am shameful of the number of skydives I have made. Perhaps through zen meditation I can rid myself of the harm I've done by skydiving.

I've been out for a few days and haven't read this whole thread..... but I have to say that the idea that BASE should be persued by people who have never skydived is pretty silly. Dog, you can use all of the pretzel logic, long sentences, and diatribe that you want, but you will still be wrong. Yes, a few people have gotten into BASE without skydiving, but they are the exception. Human flight is best learned from safe heights. Those who choose to push it may end up jumping off of stuff. Basic gear knowledge, three dimensional orientation, canopy flight (It does not matter how differnet the canopies are, you still need to learn how thae controls work) and jsut good old acclimation with not having your feet on the ground. Dog, you seem very discontent with the state of BASE, but it hasen't changed all that much. Generally the people change, move on, and it seems different to those left standing, but it is still the same. Trying to mold the people you want to hang out with into jumpers so you can re-ignite the spark for yourself will put you back, standing over a hole in the ground mouring the loss of another. If someone really wants to BASE, the age old rule of learning to skydive first is the best way for the student, the sport, and the other participants. Those who take the shortcuts may be the exception, but most people are better off building up to it. I'm pretty sure that there is also a good thread on here about who is and is not a qualified BASE instructor. The pushing of the idea of "straight to BASE" should have any perspective student wondering. Cya.

Will be in Eloy this weekend with my fiance to make some warm weather jumps. Anything special happening? I will be bringing my inflataable Godzilla to scare the Japanese. Cya.

Your question is your answer, grasshopper. If you need to ask (and you asked about as much as could be asked) then you are not ready. Stick to the planes, follow the rules, pull by 2,500, and you will be fine. There is nothing here. Tree

Riser Length-Effects on Opening Characteristics?
Treejumps replied to Velopilot's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Any change in your system will effect your opening. When I extended my risers I got better openings. It felt like the additional length dampened the energy trasfer down the lines. Less dancing on opeing too. YRMV. Tree -
That is a shot of Norman Kents girlfriend, Nicole Angilides. AN old one at that.

You recall wrong. All Furys were 220' feet. Read Poynters. But the extra 20' did not help that landing. Ouch. Good thing the local kayakers had a beer in my hand in 30 seconds. Cya.

Yo Jason, Just got in from the local tower. Heading to Eloy this Thurs. Got any contacts? I hear that there is a new tall E in the area, Hook a bro up. I know it is easy to log stuff, I am just too lazy, and I never go back and look at anything anyhow. I'm glad someone does though. You may figure something out with all that data. Cya, Tree

Just looked through the old logbook and my first BASE was jump 331 on 9/26/98. Soloed an "S" with borrowed gear I had never eveen seen unpacked. That Fury 220 sure stung the bottom of my feet.
