  1. If you're planning to stand/sit in the landing area, especially at a boogie, do yourself and the people you want to shoot a few favours. Firstly, work with the organisers. Make sure they are happy for you to be there, and advertise your presence to the organisers, jumpers, camerafliers, pilots, safety folk etc. Make sure they know you're incapacitated, and can't move out of their way. If they know you can't and won't move, and the swoopers will have to dodge you, they may be able to get the message out. Secondly, BE VISIBLE. Get a reflecto vest, and wear it when you go out. Sure, you'll look like a lost delivery driver, but it's better to be thought a dork than branded an idiot. If possible have someone go out with you to keep you safe when you're concentrating on the viewfinder. Third, have a plan, and stick to it. You're much better off to kill a camera as you hit the dirt, that let the idiot with the two to one wingloading lose his legs as he takes off your head by misjudging his swoop over/through you. Safety rant out of the way, head out the front door an experiment on passing cars. Modern canopies land at about the speed cars travel around most neighborhoods. 1/125 is going to be to slow for most canopy stuff, but practice will let you figure that out for yourself, and on a digital, it's free. If you can, play with a good flash setup, especially remote stuff(beware of irate drivers thinking you're a speed camera...) Be careful, have fun, watch your six... C. 2. The RS60-E3 remote switch uses a standard 2.5 mm (submini) audio head. The RS60-N3 uses the proprietary canon connector that requires an adapter. Deep cleansing breath... 3. That will cost you one cold frosty beer. Beer cooler made from gaffer tape is optional, but always appreciated. Payable if we're ever on a dz at the same time when the beer light goes on. 4. The site's reachable from here in Australia, can you try again and let me know if it's working? After all, it's located in the states... If not I'll email you the original, but then you'll owe me some gaffer tape and a beer Actually, I've got a feeling AOL have blocked the site. If they have, I kinda feel proud. I'm off to make a pdf of it and stick it on one of my other servers, just in case. Link available tommorow. Cheers Craig Brother Wayward's rule of the day... 5. Nice thing about red for rolling is that it doesn't have nearly as much impact on your vision on a night jump as green (for get ready) would. C. Brother Wayward's rule of the day... "Never ever ever go skydiving without going parachuting immediately afterwards." 100% PURE ADRENALENS
  6. Search ebay for "Canon remote" These guys post worldwide, make sure you ask for the one with the socket. http://stores.ebay.com/Touareg-Pro-Camera_W0QQsspagenameZl2QQtZkm Conceptus's dealers can be found here http://www.conceptusinc.com/dealers.htm Cheers C. 9. Actually, it starts more like this... 7,10,100,1,3,9,5,110... Sony, crap at numbers, damn fine at cameras. Then again, there are only 10 types of people in this digital world. Those that do understand binary, and those that dont... C. Brother Wayward's rule of the day... "Never ever ever go skydiving without going parachuting immediately afterwards." 100% PURE ADRENALENS
  10. Another option it the Tokina ATX Pro 17mm. It 's a low distortion lens, and can be picked up pretty reasonably on ebay. One of the things I like about it most is that you can mount a front filter on it, both to protect the glass, and produce some nice effects. This was with the tokina on a 300d with a cir-pol filter Cheers, Craig Brother Wayward's rule of the day... 13. A major rule of camerafly is "Know your strong exit stance". For the Spain world meet, that meant finding a way past an angry foot troop with a submachinegun... But when the meet starts tommorow, and you haven't touched the comp otter yet, there's always a way. Exit practice for a camerathing is as needed as a dirtdive. Be it wings or bag, you need to find a way to grease your way along the hull, while you deal with being 4-12 inches taller than gawd made you, wearing more fabric than a Deb at a fitting, until you can plant your feet on (usually) tiny bits of (often)slippery real estate that you may have to share, whilst holding handles that are also cold, slippery, definitely out of sight, and seemingly out of reach... If you don't know your way out, you're at least goingta look stoopid, then you'll start screwing someones spot, then you could get real dangerous after that... You would never get on board for a serious rel dive unless you knew how to get to a strong stance for exit. The same rule applies times two or three for camera, 'cos you're probably first out, and closest to the tail. It's a whole new way to find reasons to buy beer... Be safe, have fun, C. Tried it for 16 years. I agree. 16 and 4'9" sucked. 6'2" at 18 was m u c h better (if a little painful on the way!). Sadly, I discovered later that I'd need weights for rel. Approaching 40, the need for that vest is rapidly diminishing... Life's a compromise Brother Wayward's rule of the day... 14. Jeeez Deuce, http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?do=post_attachment;postatt_id=29046; I didn't mean for you to take the wings/baggy discussion that seriously... Noice setup, C. 15. Actually I was using a little, humour [b]bold statement for what I considered a bold statement. Sorry I'll type a little slower next time Also, I will admit I have no idea what SSC means? Hmmm. Imagine a camera flier rich enough to own two baggy suits... Whaaaat? Only the one suit for camera? What kinda professional are you??? (Note: dzdotcom doesn't have a markup clicky for "Gentle ribbing tone..."
  16. Now normally I watch the river flow by here, and try not to get too worried about the bold statments. Today however, I feel the need to add a little perspective... You state that like it's a fact. That Deuce, is what's known known as an opinion, and opinions, as with skill levels and body shapes, vary. An admirable aim. And so can a competent camera flier in a suit that works for him/her. Depends on the suit/person. I could show you a pro-track graph of a skysurf vid with a speed of 198 down to 78 and back out to 110. Again, an opinion stated like a fact. Who's to say that someone in a different suit can't shoot good video? Not being "bad-ass" myself, I can't comment. I've never really learned to swagger. I do know how to produce a product I can be proud of in more than one type of suit however. No disrespect to wingsuits, I've owned em, still got a couple. Personally I don't feel I produce as good a vid in wings as I can in a Baggy. Artistic choice. Yep I have to set up my helmet right, and crane my neck to get the look up shot right, but my artistic range is bigger in a baggy. The absolute best tandem vid I've ever seen was shot by a chick in a pair of baggy jeans and a T-shirt. Made me re-think my whole approach. As a TM I've seen good and bad from both wing suits and baggy's, enough to reapect the choice of those who wear what works for them Remember, opinions vary. You guys may well be getting great shots in your wings, but you may be missing out on some too... Cheers, C. Brother Wayward's rule of the day... 23. Actually, don't go there without checking first with a manufacturer or repairer. I often jump with 2 stills, a 28mm in landscape and a 19mm in portrait. I spoke to the guy who services my stuff when I was planning it, and he said the cameras would "feed back" into each other and cause lotsa grief. I now have one tongue switched and one hand switched. I don't like the h/s much either, but if wishes were ponies i'd get a relay built to work the cameras. Too lazy. 24. Now that a few people on the forum have been jumping these for a while, can you please give an informed opion on their performance in freefall. Basically, are they a workable option, or a compromise entry dig-cam. Now that the conceptus switch is sorted out, what sort of frame rates are you getting, is the lens standing up to freefall, etc etc. Quirks, foibles, upsides, downsides... Enquiring minds want to know... Cheers, Craig http://www.adrenalineskysurf.com Brother Wayward's rule of the day...
