  1. Wont get any better... But I did test it. Pulled a tape out of a HC20, threw it in the HC3... Works fine playing back . 4x3 shows with pillars on either side, 16X9 shows fullscreen(even though it's letterboxed on the hc20...) All results are in camera only. (don't feel unloved, I'm too lazy at midnight to mess with the plasma or find a firewire for the powerbook...) Stop thinking about one, and get one. You'll be happy...!!! C. 3. I'm a big fan of the Flat Top Pro. For mine it's the best camera helmet on the market, and I have nothing but good things to say about Bonehead helmets. I don't think it would suit you needs right now though... Notwithstanding that, if I was looking for a helmet I could use as a standalone for a while, then add camera's and accessories later, I'd go straight for a cookie Mxv. It's lightweight, high strength, low profile, but totally camera ready when you need it. Featurewise for this purpose it's best of breed right now. Cheers, C. Brother Wayward's rule of the day... (shot of me by Rod Benson, handheld while flying a 5000' flag...) Note to self, learn to get good shots without burying yourself in the flags... C. Brother Wayward's rule of the day... 6. Tonto, You moderate a forum where you discourage and edit uninformed speculation. Your post here is both uninformed and speculation. I have less respect for you than I had before. Look before you leap. Personally, I didnt like Irwin, but I respected him. He spent a huge propotion of the millions he made buying land all over the world to provide habitat for the native animals he wanted to protect. If he did intentionally piss off the ray that hit him, then he got what he asked for, but if he didn't he was unlucky. None of us knows the truth about his death yet, but we do know more about you, and you're the worse for it Craig Brother Wayward's rule of the day... 10. I did figure out the cost recovery, but it's pretty scary. Factor in the software, the printer, the materials, and the programming time, suddenly, it's about 1/2 the cost of the camera. It's way too much for JoeFreeflyer to invest in a camera box. I could imagine Hollywood buying them to protect crash camera's, but otherwise they're probably priceless. Bonehead and Cookie et al need not worry. My teammate made it for me. There isn't a price. We don't give each other bill's, we just know that if it needs to be done, it will be. Gotta love skydiving. 11. I had the following requirements for the box. It had to accomidate and enclose the Giottos .45 wideangle I'd settled on. It needed to allow for a lanc attachment. I was happy to lose the strap and front connector cover. It had to seal, and allow a filter over the lens. It had to allow access to the on off switch, but protect the zoom, backlight and focus buttons. The camera had to slide in and out without the need for a mounting screw, but allways have the same aiming point. The camera (Cable side) http://www.adrenalens.com/hc3box/hc3cableside_2.jpg The Camera (Screen/button side) http://www.adrenalens.com/hc3box/hc3screeenside_2.jpg The old way to bulid a camera box: Go to the shed, measure measure measure, build a blank, build a mould, sand and bog, sand and bog, sand and bog, fiddle with resin and glass. Eventually you end up with a fiberglass or cf box. :( The new way to build a camera box. Go to the office. Measure, measure, measure. Fire up your laptop. Make sure you've got a copy of this. Build a virtual blank. Build a virtual box. Make sure you've got one of these. Hit print. Wait a while. Voila. No mess, no fuss. The Stratasys machine is basically a three dimensional printer capable of producing objects made from PVC. It builds the box up in tiny layers like an ink jet printer oozing toothpaste. There's no need to paint it, you just rub it with some acetonetill it shines, which smooths the outer surface, and helps buils strength. It's strong, lightweight and precise. The box. http://www.adrenalens.com/hc3box/front45_2.jpg This particular box was built as narrow as possible across the main body of the box. The curved runner hanging from the ceiling of the box holds the camera in place with a perfect interference fit, but avoids touching the backlight and focus buttons. The ceiling is high enough to alow clearance over the zoom toggle. Rear view http://www.adrenalens.com/hc3box/rear_2.jpg Interior http://www.adrenalens.com/hc3box/boxinterior_2.jpg There's a hole in the bottem for a lanc, with a plug that fills the hole when mounted to allow precise location of the lanc cable. The base has three recessed nutserts allowing mounting from below. The hinge fits into slots in the walls, and is glued in place. The door is held closed by a press clip and socket. The bungy hooks in place in case i forget to shut the door. The barrell is just long enough to encase the lens, then has a 52-55mm step screwed and glued in place, with a replaceable 55mm filter to protect the lens. http://www.adrenalens.com/hc3box/longside_2.jpg The body and door are just long enough to hold the camera and also has a spot to store the lens cap. The hinge and pivot poin of the door allows access to the on off toggle with the door open. http://www.adrenalens.com/hc3box/backopen_2.jpg In short, it's as good as we could make it. It fits perfectly where my PC101 used to live, and is lower profile. http://www.adrenalens.com/hc3box/onhelmet2_2.jpg http://www.adrenalens.com/hc3box/onhelmet1_2.jpg It's very handy having a teammate who sells and instructs CAD/CAM and rapid prototyping machines. I think that by the time we finished, Rob's patience in putting up with my "Is there any way we could make it do blah blah blah" questions was wearing thin, but it's a credit to him that he ended up with such a great product. Who'd have thought you'd be able to make a box like this: http://www.adrenalens.com/hc3box/cadcam.jpg Thanks Rob! Brother Wayward's rule of the day... 14. Spent the training weeks before the 99 world meet rooming next door to Clif and Valery. While Valery struggled to understand the Aussie sense of humour, Clif keyed into it straight away. He was a gent who was always ready to share a beer and look through videos to help us improve, and share some of the secrets of extracting points from judges. Seeing he and Valery win Gold that year was fabulous! The scores in Granada were pretty interesting. This is just my opinion, but having seen the tapes, you cant compare the two competitions. Tanya and Craig were well ahead of both Judith and Mayumi. But they were in a 6 team competition, and were streets ahead. Eric and Alex won in a field of 17, and the standard at the top was a level above the standard of the competition Tanya and Craig were in. I think it's reasonable to content that Mens and Womens Artistics are sometimes scored a little differently... YMMV C. Brother Wayward's rule of the day... 15. Have him pack the Vengence in his rig, then drive him 5 miles down the road from the DZ. Tell him he can jump it after he walks back to the DZ. In the years to come he'll appreciate remembering the time he spent on the journey, back when he could walk. C. Brother Wayward's rule of the day... 16. Again, can you please specify what differences between the HC1 and HC3 specifically will cause the problems you suggest? The HC1 is working in the field, what at the changes that will/might cause problems on the HC3? The AU1, FX1 and Z1U are an interation higher than most of us will look at, but the HC3 is in the affordable bracket. What exactly did they take out of the HC1 to make it unusable? Ta.
