Id like to start with the phrase " I is not a rigger" with that said heres my .02. Any light source is going to have some element of IR to UV light for its design. That being said, I keep my gear packed or unpacked in its bag at all times, unless being jumped. Not just for protection from light but all other potential hazards in a trunk, closet, etc. I had one of the first Nitron canopies produced for Precision. Lined with continuous uncoated HMA (750 I belive). It was built in 01 (I think), I aquired it in 02 and jumped it until this summer. At no time did the lines ever show signs of wear. I loaded it around 1.7 - 1.8 for the better part of 600 jumps. When the lines broke, it was the two center 'A' lines. No warning nada, just bang. I belive the lines lived their expected life as they should have, but I also took very good care of my gear, going as far as to cover it with a towel if there was no shade. It is also my belief that at those loadings proper care will allow you that greater margin of safety when the line set approaches its prescribed life span. Then add a coating to protect those lines when you cannot? maybe I'd have made it through the season and sent the canopy off for a new lines set as I had planned, w/o the lines breaking. So after that long winded rambling. I dont believe that anthing done to protect your gear in ANY environment is "overboard". The stuff does save our lives.

I could never give up my beer. Its all about calorie consumption. You have to burn more than you consume. Yea there are LOTS of other factors, but if you reduce your calorie intake and increase your calorie burn with exercise, you'll do good. Im a big fan of: "theres time enough for sleep when Im dead." although, I dont have the staying power I used to have a few years ago. but in reality, my friends back home, who i used to run around with, go to bars, get crazy, etc, 4-7 nights a week. now do nothing. I talk about my life here in Atlanta and how were always on the go, and they respond "oh, no, we could never do anything like that. Its too much". LAME! the day I slow down, is the day I get old, and I and slowing down till Im dead. yea, Here we acually no longer use dairy products of any kind. it seems as though we dont clean as well as should be and by the next weekend youve got a damn smelly hangar/packing mat/ etc. amen to that. I saw this happen to someone I didnt know at a boogie this year. Looked like well cared for gear at that. We always wait till later, when theyre changed into street clothes. The anticipation of when/where it happens makes the torment that much more fun. I'll tell ya, if I ever get hit and ive got my gear on. the fight is gonna be on, and it'll not be pretty. I clean, protect, and care for my gear, sometimes better than my car, I expect the same from my friends. You can expect that from me.

well first we have to define 'old' as an adjective. Which your poll is asking. Second your poll is flawed b/c you've restricted the answers to a given set of numerical figures. Others have begun expounding on the mathmatical formulas they use to calculate old. eg. current age plus x = old so by definition "old" is now a figure you can never reach, but what if x is variable for the given "current age" so that the two are related? The you must determine that relationship. I, OTOH, will never grow 'old' because im going to become a vampire and get me an AN-2 to fly me around the world. Have a nice day. Currently my PD143 is loaded at 1.5 out the door. Im getting ready to buy a new container so my main will fit properly. One of my conditions is I will not downsize the reserve. In fact, if they came out with larger sized low bulk reserves, id do that. Ive landed a PD 143 3 times this season. Love that canopy, but Id go bigger if/when possible. Nope. Never. No how. My numbers only help ME know how Im doing in my progresssion. I know jumpers with many more jumps than me, who arent to my skill level, but on the other hand, I know some that have less jumps than me and are of equal or better skill. Yet, if my protrack ever died, id be lost, b/c I go weeks or sometimes months without updating my log book. I'll finish this year out with over 200, my best year yet. I had a great year.
