Now that wasn't so hard now, was it? Unfortunately, society HAS become overly reactionary - cited by your example that because kids OD on drugs sometimes, we need to expell a kid for bringing in unauthorized aspirin. It happens, and is a really bad idea. Bringing in social services because two kids fight REALLY IS a bad idea. Expelling a kid for having a butter knife in their car REALLY IS a bad idea, etc. etc. etc. ZERO Tolerance REALLY IS a bad idea, yet is the norm today in many arenas including school. The post (which has been floating around for years) is definitely over the top, as you say, but has a very real grain of truth to it. . . =(_8^(1)

I really do love hearing your perspective on this stuff. But my understanding (from a Humane Society study) is that current technologies only properly handle about 20% of the land and air pollution created by farm animals. Just exactly what do you do with all that shit? . . =(_8^(1)

I read your other post on the subject too, and your points aren't invalid, but it really depends on the age of the kid. Prior to high school, a parent can and should "lay down the law" often. But once a certain age is reached, you're right -- the proper parenting role turns more towards guidance and support. We'll have to disagree that saggy pants syndrome is merely fashion. I see a LOT of high school kids in my area, and few of them display saggy pants. The ones that do also exhibit other troublesome behavior. But yea, for the majority, it's probably just a phase, but that doesn't mean parents shouldn't discourage it. I think overall, it IS a battle worth fighting from the parenting point of view. . . =(_8^(1)

If this post is such BS, it should be real EASY to type out a reply, and informative too! So please, take the time to explain to the ignorant why this post is such "BS". If nothing else, can you admit that the sentiment of the post has a lot of truth to it? . . =(_8^(1)

Absolutely nothing if you enjoy waddling like a duck to keep them up along with telling the world "I'm an idiot". I do not think there should be laws against it, but definitely should not be allowed in public schools. Having said that, I think it's bad parenting to allow it at all because it may mean the kid is either in or courting the wrong crowd, although I'll admit that the phenomenon has become more "mainstream" now. My fiance is a director at a "boot camp" diversion program for kids -- last chance before jail -- so through her I've got an eye into just who's entering the program. Guess what, virtually all of them come from the saggy pants/exposed butt floss crowd! Every kid will find ways to say "I'm different" -- it's a normal part of establishing one's identity. But saggy pant syndrome is NOT a positive way to do that. Successful parents do not allow their kids to express themselves in negative ways -- or at least discourage it depending on the age of the kid. In the case of saggy pants (and colors), the attire and the behavior seem to be very much intertwined. . . =(_8^(1)

I've done my job well. . . =(_8^(1)

Hopefully, you don't have kids yourself. Why? Correct me if I'm wrong -- you believe parents should respect their kid's right to express themselves in the form of wearing saggy pants? . . =(_8^(1)

So yea, the worldwide cattle population is far greater than ever, nullifying the argument comparing cattle to bison in the US. The pollution caused by factory farming (cattle, pigs, chickens, etc.) is extremely harmful to planet Earth, yet very few people seem to actually give a fuck about it. Just gimme my Big Mac. . . =(_8^(1)

Good point, a quick search reveals that cattle populations in the US today are roughly the same as the Bison population in the early 1800's. But the bison heards were spread out, and today that's not the case. Despite the thread title, my personal concerns with factory farming are not so much related to GW. I'm more concerned with the pollution and suffering caused by raising the various farm animals in dense groups, and the lack of good progress mitigating the situation. Here's an honest take on the situation: http://www.ncifap.org/ . . =(_8^(1)

Not this guy www.youtube.com/watch?v=q_HhAyNsR0o Flip-flopping on an issue might not be the greatest personality attribute, but does not remotely compare to outright lying about your past experiences, a great example of which is Clinton's lie about the '96 Bosnia trip. Big Red Flag: Likely pathological liar at hand. . . =(_8^(1)

Thanks. It's frustrating that stuff like that happens, and I'm sad that we LET it happen. America, home of the free? Not anymore. . . =(_8^(1)

Agreed. And by the same line of thinking, let's cut down all the trees! That'll get rid of those pesky termites Bill mentioned. Problem solved. . . =(_8^(1)

I'm sure you're aware that the exact opposite of your statement is true, and that eating "more" steak will also make you less healthy. But all in good fun, eh? Fuck the planet. Factory farming creates more greenhouse emissions than transportation, worldwide. So the answer to the OP's question is "factory farming". . . =(_8^(1)

Not to mention sobriety checkpoints. AKA Fourth Amendment Violation Stations. I just drive around the checkpoints. I don't like sitting in traffic. Aren't you a lawyer, or on the way to being one? Got an opinion on the unreasonable search and seizure aspects of either checkpoints or the proposed motorcycle law? Every checkpoint I've ever seen had you bottled in before you knew it was there. . . =(_8^(1)

It's more fun to vent here than down at the DMV, though I realize complaing at either location is useless. . . =(_8^(1)

I just disagree with the whole concept that there is no privacy in your vehicle, and that driving is a "privledge" as we are constantly reminded. Why does the fact that I climbed into my car or onto my bike suddenly remove my right to privacy? It shouldn't. What's next, "let me see your papers" as I walk down the street? I believe driving on the roads WE pay for should be a lawful "right" until it's proven WE need it taken away. I know we need laws to protect our safety, but the line got crossed a long time ago, and doesb't mean driving should be a "privledge". The whole window tinting debate is a pisser too. . . =(_8^(1)

I suppose you're referring to that? I guess you assume the poster's "temper tantrum" somehow involved relations with Iraqis? How do you know this? Did GQ fill you in privately? If not, then you're making a tall assumption that his "temper tantrum" affected our relationship with Iraq or Iraqis somehow. My point was that anyone can fuck up and then self correct. We've all done so but, as was said, it seems you and your young protege are making a lot of snap judgements from the safety and security of your comfy computer stations without knowing too many facts. . . =(_8^(1)

Grand and noble speech, but has absolutely nothing to do with point I made (and therefore doesn't show that it's "rubbish"). Is kidwicked your tweener aged neice or something? . . =(_8^(1)
-
Blanket statement that means nothing. An overwhelming majority of people can make a mistake, yet come back and do their jobs quite well, soldiers included. You have no idea what the poster's "temper tantrum" was about, yet feel confident in making arm-chair meaningless blanket judgements anyway. The attached pic sums up THAT mentality nicely. . . =(_8^(1)

It's even worse than you thought -- got my threads mixed up. I was intending to ask lawrocket this question regarding the new motorcycle law. Too many tasks going at once. . . =(_8^(1)

Not enough smilies and winkies. Do you not believe this new law is a clear trespass of the Fourth Amendment, and will rightfully be challenged as such? . . =(_8^(1)
