  1. Ok never mind the October 10th thing. I misread a search on posts I did here and thought it was the same day. The crash happened on the 8th.
  2. I am hesitating to post this but if you are reading this then I guess I hit "post". I came across a link on YouTube as a "related" video after watching a tandem have a bad landing. The tandem video was linked from another forum here. The title of this video was "Casey Craig from Afterlife on Skydivers Plane Crash". I clicked on it and watched some woman claim she was Casey Craig who died in the Caravan crash last fall. I'm still shocked by it but I know there are really disturbed/sick people out there. They can't help that they are mentally ill. I clicked to see what other stuff this person had on there and it is really out there. So I will post the link as I'm sure someone else here will come across it anyway at some point by searching or by accident like I did. The date the video was added says October 10th, 2007. That's the day the crash happened. Not sure how that could be as names were not released for awhile. This is relly bizarre. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z0VGRq0pNQg
  3. Read HERE for a listing of some recent conflicts reported from around the country. Updated January 31, 2008 by NASA. Chris Schindler www.diverdriver.com ATP/D-19012 FB #4125
  4. John congratulations!! Wow Key West. I heard it's cold there this time of year. Chris Schindler www.diverdriver.com ATP/D-19012 FB #4125
  5. Roger, I salute you! Chris Schindler www.diverdriver.com ATP/D-19012 FB #4125
  6. How I took Gary's post is that "make a mark" means "hype". Yes, many have made something new in the past. Yet they didn't go around tooting their horn over and over about how "cool" it was and the "in crowd" were the only ones allowed to do it/have it. The Wright Brothers were IGNORED for years when they flew. They went about their business of refining their flying machine. They were trying to do something new yet didn't need to go to the county fair, drum up hype to prove their worth. They KNEW what they were doing was worth it. Time told the story but they were not trying to just make their mark. They wanted to achieve something rather than be somebody. That's how I took Gary's post and idea. edit to add: Then I read further and saw Rainbo said pretty much the same thing. Chris Schindler www.diverdriver.com ATP/D-19012 FB #4125
  7. After seeing the first hand results of two canopy collisions and realizing that my own actions most likely would not be the cause of injury or death to me I (and my wife who skydived) decided to retire and have a kid together. My kids (2 step-daughters and a son) deserve to have me provide for them until they can provide for themselves and not become a burden on society. I jumped for 10 years. Got to see and do some things that extremely few people get to see and do. I was satisfied with my time in the sport and I continue to lurk here to try and pass on what I've learned so others might avoid what I've seen. 8. Very sorry to hear about this. Only had one conversation directly with Lowell. He was a straight talker. Chris, my condolences to you and your family. Chris Schindler www.diverdriver.com ATP/D-19012 FB #4125
  9. Geico rates are gonna skyrocket! Lt. Cdr Nelson is not a celebrity so to tell his story we hired Peter Frampton to.... ... you get the rest.
  10. Glad to see they are getting Mr. D back in the air. I only have a few hours in the right seat but it was a real treat to get that time. It opened doors for me. And I enjoyed flying with Mark B. Chris Schindler www.diverdriver.com ATP/D-19012 FB #4125
  11. This really bothers you doesn't it? I think it's more irritating to see people use "your" when they should have used "you're". ...thread hijack in progress
  12. It was sitting still and not slowly rotating in feather? Ewwwwww.... that ain't good. Turbines usually free-wheel a little unless something has seazed up in there. Chris Schindler www.diverdriver.com ATP/D-19012 FB #4125
  13. I had a Tempo 150 for a time. Rode it twice. It had a slight turn that was easily corrected by differential toggle position. I certainly did not think it any major problem. I loaded my reserve at 1:1. Maybe a higher loading would have caused a faster turn. Probably. I stood up both landings. I thought it was a fine reserve. It must have been. I'm still here to talk about it. Right? Chris Schindler www.diverdriver.com ATP/D-19012 FB #4125
  14. now the age extention to 65 killed that hiring for another 5 years. Hardly. For every pilot that made it to 60 one medicalled out early. To get to 65 will not be that easy. 65 may have slowed things a bit for now but it is not putting a halt to hiring at all. Republic will hire 1,000 pilots in 2008 according to their plan. 15. Whatever happened to a sandwich and maybe a free jump? $20 bucks an hour seems a bit steep. The sandwich is always stale and by the time I can get out of the plane to make that great discounted solo jump no one wants to make a load. So, in the mean time, pilots should go right on trying to get paid what they are worth and it's a lot more than $20 an hour. Chris Schindler www.diverdriver.com ATP/D-19012 FB #4125
  16. Depends on the plane. And that's only while you fly which is dependant on weather and people to take up. And it's not a guaranteed 40 hour work week and there is no health insurance or retirement. That wage is actually pretty horrible. Chris Schindler www.diverdriver.com ATP/D-19012 FB #4125
  17. You have got to be kidding right? ANYONE who votes to impeach Jan Meyer should be black balled from any DZ AND should be voted OFF of their position at the earliest possible point. This is such bullshit. Chris Schindler www.diverdriver.com ATP/D-19012 FB #4125
  18. I had to manuever a Canadair Regional Jet at 250 knots to avoid colliding with jumpers over Crosskeys. It DOES happen and I DID see them in freefall. They passed the nose at less than a quarter mile. I could tell the jumpsuit colors and body position as they went by. Chris Schindler www.diverdriver.com ATP/D-19012 FB #4125
  19. Watch your friends die in canopy collision that they didn't cause then think how my kid will feel if I died for a hobby. My responsibility is to provide for my family so they are not a burden on society. That's pretty much it. That and the fact that no one wants to put a foot down and stop this shit. Chris Schindler www.diverdriver.com ATP/D-19012 FB #4125
  20. Any airspace that is classified as controlled (i.e. radio communication with an ATC entity is mandated and authorization from said entity must be obtained prior to entering said airspace) where VFR flights are permitted. Currently, this means airspace classes from B through D. E-F-G are not controlled airspaces and class A is generally forbidden to VFR flights unless otherwise noted or with special authorization (such as for record attempts or other exceptional circumstances). Cheers, Vale When we did the world record stuff in Class A airspace we most certainly were not VFR. We had an IFR flight plan and clearance. It wasn't typcial IFR flight plan and clearance but we were IFR. Chris Schindler www.diverdriver.com ATP/D-19012 FB #4125
  21. I just had this happen to me. F'rs cleaned me out. But my bank was way cool and restored my funds after I and my wife identified the fraudelent charges. Why do people have to be such weasel shits? Chris Schindler www.diverdriver.com ATP/D-19012 FB #4125
  22. What's old is new again. Chris Schindler www.diverdriver.com ATP/D-19012 FB #4125
  23. In the USA ATC is NOT required to "seperate" VFR traffic even if you are talking to them. SEE AND AVOID!! Chris Schindler www.diverdriver.com ATP/D-19012 FB #4125
  24. Hell I had jumpers go off my nose at less than quarter mile and had to make TWO hard evasive turns to avoid a collision. Never made the news. WTF. Chris Schindler www.diverdriver.com ATP/D-19012 FB #4125
  25. After this crash I took the Cessna Caravan Icing Training. I don't even fly Caravans but I thought it was important enough as I run a jump pilot website. It cost 50 bucks. Small price to pay for GREAT training. It's done online at your convenience from any internet connection. We don't know that icing brought this Caravan down. It could also have been a disorientation accident. I still don't know the hours of the pilot total/in type/in instrument conditions/recency of instrument flying and icing training. Lots of questions. This could be an accident akin to the JFK Jr accident. Perfectly working aircraft that the pilot loses control of. We just don't know yet. We don't know if the plane was equiped for flight into known icing or whether the installed equipement was even working. We don't know what effect fatigue played into this. We know the flight was not on an instrument flight plan and did encounter instrument flying conditions. Even if the pilot is rated (speaking in generals here not this specific accident pilot) there can be a loss of control as the pilot encountered something unexpected which adds a whole knew dinamic to the situation.
