You might ask if this pilot is trimming nose down on jumprun. I recommend in the planes I know (182, 206, Twin Otter) not to trim during jumprun but rather just use some muscle and push forward. This allows for a smoother unload during exit and doesn't cause divers to get pinned to the floor as the nose down trim takes over and the pilot must use lots of muscle to pull until re-trimming. Ever think maybe it's not the answer of why the money is there it's how it's answered (or not answered in this case) that draws more attention? The money isn't the threat but a person who is evasive, nervous could be *that* person. Hell, didn't you guys read how a customer service agent helped a roomate bring a handgun past security? How were they caught? A passenger noticed the exchange of luggage on the other side of security AND the employee looked "nervous". Is there a law against looking nervous? If someone asks "are you nervous?" are you going to say "am I legally obligated to answer that?" Because this passenger reported to TSA an undeclared gun was pulled off a USAir flight. Then when they rescreened everyone guess what they found? A box cutter. TSA is not 100%. And there are people trying to game the system every day. And with that, I think I'm done with this thread. Flame away. Chris Schindler www.diverdriver.com ATP/D-19012 FB #4125

You gotta be kidding me if you think that was justification for harrassing this guy about the money he had. Was it to pay off the hijackers on that flight? The TSA is not the FBI, not the CIA or DEA, although I'm sure some of them think they are. They are security personnel. Unless I'm carrying a knife, gun or dangerous toenail clippers, they should not ask me a bunch of dumb questions about what all that money is for. This is still the United States, not some Socialist backwater. Security personel BORN of a well financed terrorist organization. It's a reasonable question. And really who is a security threat? When you show up I don't know who you are. But I and others in the airline industry are expected and morally obligated to try to pick that needle out of the haystack so you can continue to pay your 39 bucks for your ticket. Another hi-jacking happens I guarantee this industry will collapse and collapse hard not to mention the unknown toll of life in such an attack if succesful. Then you'll complain that "no one was watching. They're asleep at the switch." Again, I don't agree with the harsh ghestapo tone of the questioning. The TSA agent let his emotion get the better of him. But repeating a question to get an answer is not harassment in my book. Choose not to answer it. Fine. Ask for a supervisor. When I've been questioned about my lead vest and skydiving rig I was courteous. When the agent didn't seem to understand what I was saying and was going to deny me entry I asked for a supervisor. The supervisor cleared it up fast. I never said "do you have the right to ask me that?" And really, do you want to answer questions about large sums of money in front of other passengers or would you rather answer that discreetly so you don't have some criminal targeting you because of opportunity? The whole "oh they took me to a room with no windows" cry of victim. Give me a break. That procedure is for the passenger's benefit too. Hell just the other day I carried a guy in full Hell's Angels outfit with a 1% patch. We get all kinds. Chris Schindler www.diverdriver.com ATP/D-19012 FB #4125

Because it is none of their business. Because it can be one clue in questioning FOR safety. I guarantee the x-ray machine does not pick up on money. They saw a LARGE METAL box on the screen. Of course it will be questioned and will have to be opened. When the contents are viewed a natural next question is what do you need that much cash for? It is no secret that there are groups RIGHT NOW "gaming" the system to see what responses will be brought by certain actions. This guy was not a terrorist but evading questions only raises the red flags folks. The language used is wrong. But the questioning in my book was right. The face of terrorism or people wishing to do harm is not white, black, brown, Arab, Christian, Atheist, man, woman, etc. "They" only have to be right once to cause chaos. The "system" has to be right 100% to keep this industry going. It took 8 years between attacks on the WTC. 1993-2001. Guess what folks? 2001 + 8 = 2009. Bush didn't keep attacks away. It just takes that long to organize and FUND (IE CASH MONEY FOLKS) attacks. Chris Schindler www.diverdriver.com ATP/D-19012 FB #4125

Lodi Facing Million Dollar Lawsuit
diverdriver replied to michaelt's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Has everyone pretty much agreed on exit seperation on free-fliers, flat fliers, students, and tandems? I think most have. Can you put the exit order in any aircraft in any fashion? YES! (fine print: if you know what you're doing.) So while we know we can do something any way we want, we as an industry have come to accept flat fliers largest group to smallest, then free fliers largest group to smallest, then high pullers and students followed by tandems then wingsuits. This has become the "norm" most everywhere. So, why don't people realise that this issue is going the same way? Just because you can do something doesn't mean it really is the best practice as a whole. Putting jumpers out while still in climb attitude in any King Air with a low tail (90, 99) NEEDLESSLY increases the risk for the jumper. And I'm sorry it doesn't cost the DZ a dollar or two to power back for level flight and put them out. IT DOES NOT and anyone who argues it costs that much has their priorities completely out of whack if that's worth a life. If he is losing money at 5 bucks a hop n pop then raise the price and level off! Why is this even an arguement? The danger is clear. This HISTORY is there and it is TOTALLY PREVENTABLE! What more can really be said? And to the lawyers who keep asking me to testify for your client stop contacting me. I don't do lawsuits. I try to educate people to stay alive longer. Know anything about this Lodestar?
diverdriver replied to JDutton's topic in Skydiving History & Trivia
I think there's an old Loadstar parked at an FBO in Richmond, VA. I never see it move so I don't know if it's still airworthy. I'll see if I can get a picture. Any time I hear the name Loadstar I get chills from the stories I've heard. Can't imagine living the memory. I've been pinned to the ceiling and floor (same flight) in a Cessna 206. Once the pilot stopped trying to fix things the plane recovered on its own. Gotta hand it to you guys who jumped in decades past. Chris Schindler www.diverdriver.com ATP/D-19012 FB #4125 -
Maybe you should take your own advice and calm down. YOU are the maniac in this situation with your tantrum and are making us all look bad. And basicly I view this whole thread as nothing more as a personal attack on Randy Ottinger and should be locked or removed. Chris Schindler www.diverdriver.com ATP/D-19012 FB #4125

The highlighted section applies only to operations to a DZ (landing area) NOT on airport property. If you have approval by airport management to land on the airport then C does not apply. That's why it's beneficial to own the airport. Chris Schindler www.diverdriver.com ATP/D-19012 FB #4125

What are these rules and where are they? What I don't understand is where the rule is that says pilot A needs a background check under these circumstances. If Pilot A is only overflying the TFR, does he need a check? If Pilot A is penetrating the TFR, does he need a check? I do not know where these rules are written. If you can find these rules, please let me know. If these rules do not exist, then what Mark claims is a legitimate claim. . Jan, he's not overflying. That would be one continuous transit of space. He's dropping skydivers through a TFR. I can see the FAAs point of view on this. Plus, getting pissy with them is NOT going to get you anywhere. If I had gotten emails like the ones I saw here I would have ignored him too. Randy is not an f'n verbal punching bag and neither is the rest of the BOD. I believe you were given an apology at the last BOD meeting for language used against you correct? Maybe that's a lesson you can give to Slyde. Threat to Sabotage PAC750XL at MRVS
diverdriver replied to Gato's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
This kind of stuff has been happening in KC for over a couple of decades. I was on the receiving end of anonymous calls to the FAA to get them out and inspect our operation constantly. Sadly, what was claimed was also easily verifiably found false. Chris Schindler www.diverdriver.com ATP/D-19012 FB #4125 -

IIRC, I've heard of one prominent dz that used to pay $5 per load but switched to an hourly rate a few years ago as the pilots were making too much money. 5 bucks a load is too much money? You're joking right? 5 bucks a load is what was paid in the 80s. It's 2009. Chris Schindler www.diverdriver.com ATP/D-19012 FB #4125

One of our pilots at Air Wisconsin was just telling me a few days ago about flying an Arava at Otay. That's gotta be the one. He's about to retire. I'll try to get this photo to him. Chris Schindler www.diverdriver.com ATP/D-19012 FB #4125

Lost DZs: Skydive Horizon, Harrisonville, MO closed 1995. Greater Kansas City Skydiving Club Independence, MO. Not sure when it closed but the airport is completely gone building wise. On Google Maps I see the runway is still visible off RD Mize Rd (sounded Our Demise Road). And the Meth house across the street is still there.
