  1. This is my website section where I list all jump plane accidents that I have found. I am focused on the pilot and their training so my list includes accidents that may not have jumpers on at the moment of the accident. But the accidents affect the industry none the less. http://diverdriver.com/accidents-by-year/ Chris Schindler www.diverdriver.com ATP/D-19012 FB #4125

  3. Soloy offered(s) a 206 conversion years ago. But I don't think many were done for USA flying. I'm told most went to Europe. But what Van Pray Jr has done here I think is a game changer. Chris Schindler www.diverdriver.com ATP/D-19012 FB #4125
  4. If only there was a website specifically dedicated to educating jump pilots in a multitude of different aircraft. With a training syllabus, written test, regulations and a graduate level study in all jump plane accidents of the past 33 years. Hmmmmm. DiverDriver.com [
  5. November 22, 2013 saw the official re-launch of www.DiverDriver.com. I want to thank Christy West for her unfailing dedication to helping me see this website flourish. If it wasn't for her I could not do what you see now. Also, this December will be the 14th anniversary of the original launch of the website in 2000. In the past year there have been 14,704 unique visitors from around the world. Obviously the highest number come from the United States and Canada. But many visitors are from UK, Australia, Germany, Brazil, France, Sweden, New Zealand and Finland. All told there have been visitors from 151 different countries / territories. That is truly AWESOME! This could only have happened with all of YOU supporting the site and promoting it among your friends and coworkers in the skydiving industry. From the bottom of my heart, thank you. -Chris Schindler Chris Schindler www.diverdriver.com ATP/D-19012 FB #4125
  6. Not forgotten Randy. A tip of the beer to ya. Chris Schindler www.diverdriver.com ATP/D-19012 FB #4125
  7. Glad to have a Twin Otter pilot chime in. So. . . I know every Cessna I've jumped from uses them, Caravans included. If I remember correctly, the DH2 even uses a notch of flaps for climbing. Are you saying the Otter won't fly slower with flaps? You don't use them on jump run? I have to admit I watch the flaps on Cessnas but not on the Otter (bench seats in that plane make it difficult to look out the windows easily). The reasoning for extending flaps can be different on different aircraft even if the action is the same (extending flaps). King Air? Fly slower. Cessna 182? Raise the tail. Twin Otter? The tail is already above the level of the door if jumprun is flown correctly. If you add flaps you add drag which requires more power for level flight. More power means more prop blast. So, fly slower but get more prop blast. It's just not making sense to me. IF...big if you were still trying to raise the horizontal stabilizer during exit I would suggest a power idle descending jumprun. Chris Schindler www.diverdriver.com ATP/D-19012 FB #4125
  8. The guy sounds like he shouldn't be flying jumpers. I'd like to hear his reason why no flaps. I can't think of any. I'd like to hear a reason why you WOULD extend flaps on a Twin Otter. I can't think of any. Chris Schindler www.diverdriver.com ATP/D-19012 FB #4125
  9. In 2,000 hours of flying the Twin Otter I have never, ever extended flaps for jumprun. It's not necessary. And I've only flown static liners and world records. King Airs, yes use flaps on jumprun. Twin Otters? Why? Chris Schindler www.diverdriver.com ATP/D-19012 FB #4125

  14. Yes, I have someone that is writing a section on the C-208 standard AND modified versions. Keep checking back. King Air section should be added THIS week. Spread the word. I believe this coming spring we could have the most informed and well rounded group of DiverDrivers yet. Be safe out there. And...stay OFF my LIST Chris Schindler www.diverdriver.com ATP/D-19012 FB #4125
  15. DiverDriver.com PRESS RELEASE After a brief hiatus, DiverDriver.com is back! The website, created in December 2000 by former jump pilot Chris Schindler, has been a leader in bringing the latest safety information to pilots worldwide who fly skydivers. The website has helped lower the overall accident rate of jump planes year over year by featuring detailed guidelines for flying several aircraft types as jump aircraft, a compilation of jump plane accidents worldwide, jump pilot training syllabus, formation flying guidelines, and much more. “Having a collected experience of SOP’s for jump operations and different aircraft was priceless for me when I started,” says Twin Otter pilot Jeff Gladish. “Every time I’d fly a new aircraft, in addition to studying the AFM, this site could help me to fit that info into a jump operation. ” “I was directed to the site as soon as I was hired,” adds Caravan pilot Shaun Lee. “The site helped me more than the person who was training me. The site is a go-to source for new jump pilots everywhere.” Now remodeled and relaunched, DiverDriver.com continues to provide best practices and training for pilots who fly skydivers at hundreds of drop zones around the world. Among the updates are revisions to the accident section to provide more commentary, listings of accidents by aircraft type and cause as well as by year, a freefall drift simulator, and a blog for first-person accounts of jump pilot “life lessons” and Q&A. “DiverDriver.com is my personal choice for information where it concerns skydiving pilots,” says Rabbitt Staib, beta tester and chief pilot at Skydive Spaceland. “Chris has taken his experience and the experience of seasoned jump pilots and has presented it in an excellent format for newer and other seasoned jump pilots to use.” Blue skies and soft landings from the DiverDriver.com team. 16. This IS sad. Blue skies brother and sister skydivers. May we learn from you. Chris Schindler www.diverdriver.com ATP/D-19012 FB #4125
  17. Thanks guys for the support. The hosting has been arranged again. The old site is up while I work on redoing the site and updating accident files. I hope you like the new site once released. Hopefully more functional than, eh hem... other recently released websites. Once up and running there will be a link added for donations. Chris Schindler www.diverdriver.com ATP/D-19012 FB #4125
  18. What David said. Jim was killed in a motorcycle accident about 1994 I think. I started diver driving at Harrisonville, MO (Horizon Skydiving) and made my first jump at Independence (Greater Kansas City Skydiving Club) in 1995. Jim I believe died a year earlier.
  19. Fantastic update. Thanks. Chris Schindler www.diverdriver.com ATP/D-19012 FB #4125
  20. Blue skies Rev Jim. You were absolutely part of the fabric of this family. RIP. Chris Schindler www.diverdriver.com ATP/D-19012 FB #4125
  21. How much is that? 5 gal per side? That's correct. And that's assuming the old rubber bladder type tanks don't have wrinkles in them. Chris Schindler www.diverdriver.com ATP/D-19012 FB #4125
  22. Ok if the plane was loaned to non DZ pilot for personal flight this could or could not be skydiving related. The aircraft is a 182. Straight 182 from 1956. These older planes have a much higher unusable fuel per tank than most pilots are used to. An uninformed pilot "just hopping in" could very well think they have enough for a short hop when they don't. Was this to go up and look for cutaway gear? TK? Chris Schindler www.diverdriver.com ATP/D-19012 FB #4125
  23. Owned by a DZ. Operated by employees of the DZ? Then it's skydiving related. It's the true risk management and threat to a jump pilot. I'm surprised this was moved. This type accident/report has always been left in Incidents. Phreezone? Billvon? Any info? Is this a shift in policy? Chris Schindler www.diverdriver.com ATP/D-19012 FB #4125
