  5. what was the minimum anticipated altitude? . But yeah, kudos to him. I've nearly backed out on a load because I didn't feel comfortable about the pilot. Then someone else said they weren't going up and then the pilot was changed. I know that it's difficult. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  6. Wrong. The "meter" (or "metre') was introduced as a standard measurement in 1793. And americans still can't get it right... -- Arching is overrated - Marlies

I don't like having to read the numbers to see how high I'm not. I prefer the analogue alti, where a glance at the needle shows you where you are. I don't need to know that I'm at 6.3 grand, just under 6.5 is close enough. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  9. Not always. If you've got an RSL, then the RSL side riser should have a longer cutaway cable. The idea being that the other riser should be gone before the RSL has a chance to open your reserve so you have less chance of firing your reserve into your main. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies

  11. Australian DZs need to use ripcord activated student gear with as SOS handle. The OpRegs don't say where the main ripcord is mounted. If the DZ has a training waiver, they can use throwouts and other things. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  12. Has happened to me. Didn't affect what I was doing, but it was the first time I had contemplated chopping. I did a few practice flares and turns (after the initial wtf?) and it all seemed controlable. When I got down, I left it wrapped in the brake lines and showed a few people. THey didn't know how it could have happened. . I'm guessing that if it had wrapped around more of the cascades, it would have shortened the lines, letting you drive around in part brakes. You should be able to compensate for that by pulling down a little more on the opposite toggle. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  13. With the tone set to go off _before_ break off, you will become device dependent. Just ask Squeak (he posts here). You will turn points (or whatever it is you do) waiting to hear the tone before you get ready to break off. . My personal setting is 3500 or 4000 (500 below break off), 2500 (I should hear this as the slider is coming down) and 1500 (wtf are you doing?) -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  14. Yeah, but at about 1 Gb per tape, it won't fit on a CD. I'm planning a new computer, so it'll have a DVD burner for things just like this. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  15. So a drouge cutaway handle totally separates you from the drouge? so you'd go into tandem terminal? I thought that the drouge was securely attached to the bridle which was securely attached to the d-bag, which was attached to the canopy. The DZ that I jump at uses Racers, and I thought the the drouge release that is attached to the cutaway handle was just a drouge release, not a drouge cutaway. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  16. I would do some more work on it, but a windows update managed to corrupt my boot sector and fux0r my computer. I've finished reinstalling everything, but I lost all of my footage. Considering that I've just started, it's no big deal, but I'm investing in a second HDD now... -- Arching is overrated - Marlies

  18. Cheers for the comments all. . pope, I understand what you mean about more cuts for that music. I was originally going to do most of the stuff in slow motion, as that is what the music feels like to me, but I've only got Movie Maker atm, so I was a bit limited. I also lack a bit in the footage department, so I couldn't cut too often, as I'd run out. That said, I'll keep on the editing trail, you can only get better by doing. out -- Arching is overrated - Marlies

  20. I've taken my rig on three trips around Oz (the latest about 2 wks ago), all on qantas, and all carry on. I haven't had any dramas at all. I put my rig in a backpack, take off my hook knife, and everything is dandy. I do carry my log book, just so I can show that it is legitimate sporting gear. Haven't had to show it yet. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies

  24. !!! 200 jump wonder !!! The only trouble that I've seen/heard is from reverse risers being used on harnesses that aren't designed for them. If the manufacturer designs a rig to use reverse risers, then it should be OK. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  25. Maybe run through the exit in real time, and then in slow-mo and pause it at certain points to explain things; like what to look for when they actually are exiting, not just when their count says they will. Graphics saying which type of exit you are doing, and which formation the team is taking out... . Just my 2c.... -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
