  1. Tons of threads about this already but if you want to do AFF then do AFF
  2. The video evidence from david chandler matches that of NIST. That doesn't answer the question of how accurate it can be. It can't be very accurate. I went to school and worked very hard for a long time to get a mechanical engineering degree. Not civil engineering, but it does give me a much better sense of what is reasonable than you, relying on your high school physics lessons. What is not reasonable? Just because you keep repeating "steel framed" blah blah over and over doesn't mean that what happened was unreasonable. Your armchair engineering conclusions don't mean anything. I'll take the detailed analysis of the Purdue team about how the damage and fire resulted in the failure, the speed of the rest of the collapse is a separate subject. That analysis could be done, perhaps it should be done to answer truthers (although it likely would be rejected as part of the conspiracy), and I expect that it would agree well with the actual result of what happened that day. Why don't the truthers just conduct their own analysis of how fast it should have fallen? The bullshit "experiments" dropping stuff on top of other stuff should be embarrassing, seriously. You have so many scientists/engineers in the truther ranks, why can't they show their analysis of how fast it should have fallen? They can't because they haven't done it. Why haven't they done it, why are you left to make your own wild estimate of
  3. How about balloon jumps! I am willing to pay for some video, who wants to go up with me? Mornings are more reliable than late in the day. I don't know exactly which day will work out best, but how about it? People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
  4. You think it should be much less than 0.5g! Wow, I guess you think it should have gone like the ca-chunk, ca-chunk lady on the truther video. You have that much of an intuitive sense of physics and dynamics - none. Anyway, that is your uneducated guess, what about your truther scientists? What do they think it should have been? What is the accuracy of the video evidence? Also from my observations of your guy's data - what about the early 3 data points, why was it so slow? How did the data come back to the 1g line (which would mean >1g - impossible) after it slowed the 3 times I pointed out? I'll tell you how, the data is inaccurate, it didn't fall at 1g, and the acceleration of the collapse wasn't uniform. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
  5. So what you are saying is; that a miniscule variation from freefall in the bulidings collapse makes the assertion that it fell too fast to be considered possible from fire damage, incorrect? Because it did not fall ecactly the same speed for the whole descent? The term I remember being used is 'virtually indistiguisable from freefall' if you start talking in 1% and 2% then that fits that descrption quite well. So now that you have studied that graph intently, do you still belive that office fires would be capable of making that building fall so quickly and symmetrically? This is the part I cannot understand about your argument, a slight variation from freefall would be expected with the debris and air pressure in the building, even with exensive expolsives, the movement of air, debris and the collisions between them will create friction and will add enegry to the mix, this will explain any varyation from the 'free'fall model. It is not like we are claiming the roof got to fall to the ground with absolutely nothing in between. It seems this is what you beleve we think, and you would be wrong. It does not surprise me at all that the building fell at near freefall acceleration. You previously said it did fall at 1g, sometimes you say that it fell at near freefall accel, which is it, and how close to 1g should it have fallen? Is .98g too fast? How about .95 or .90? To say that it fell too fast requires that you know how fast it should have fallen, all you do is say it fell too fast. How can you know that without an analysis of how fast it should have been without the supposed controlled demolition? How much variation in the accel should have been expected? You don't know, but somehow are able to be sure that the variation in the data is not significant. You make your analysis by the armchair engineering method, and your truther "scientists" don't offer anything better. That is NOT using the scientific method, something that you cite so often. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
  6. Yes, it shows variation in the acceleration. Whether that variation is so slight that it is not significant depends on you saying exactly what accuracy can be claimed from the video data. So, what accuracy do you claim? At what acceleration should the building have fallen, if it was not a controlled demolition? If you don't have answers to those questions, then you cannot logically make the assertion that the data supports your conclusion. These are simple questions that have direct, scientific bearing on your assertions. I understand that you don't have the answers, but the fact that your truther scientists have avoided them should tell you that they do in fact not follow the scientific method. The older excel versions of my file were too big, so attached is a pic I pulled from my commentary on the data, that shows there was not uniform accelera tion, based on your data. 7. For now you have shown that your ability to engage in intellegent discussion is limited. Unless you can have some sort of scientific explanation to present or at least an attempt to clarify your assertions, will lead me to believe you lost interest after 30 seconds and decided to throw an insult instead. Ok, I will specifically show the errors in your assertions. See the attached file. You do not have uniform accel, you do not have the accuracy needed to claim 1g accel. Please try to address the issues at hand, instead of going on a tirade of general insults. 8. I find it easier to concentrate without my brain being bombarded with so much noise. 14. It looks like the hook knife option is $35 now. I would like to believe they don't sell the crappy orange zak knife. Other plastic options that are commonly available are quite durable. Did Sweden ban all plastic knives? People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. 15. I no longer want Cadmium (toxic) dust around me, it wears off on to the harness, and if your hardware does then rust, it will wear down the webbing. It is amazing that the cad plated steel is less expensive than stainless. I have found the stainless leg strap hardware on my new Infinity to be fantastic in terms of not slipping compared to the cad plated steel on my old Infinity. They don't have the fancy spring pushing down on the webbing as I've seen is available on some rigs, it simply isn't needed, at least for the stainless hardware used at that shop in Oregon. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
  16. What is the difference between stainless (regular) and stainless deluxe? I think you can do without the cut in laterals. Someone else made the comment that it is more applicable/worthwhile for really tiny rigs on larger people. I can't confirm that, but others will likely comment. I'd go with the freefly pilot chute handle instead of the hacky, and it is cheaper. Don't neglect a couple of stripes and pinstripes, as you will want to really like the look of your rig every time you see it, instead of it looking plain, and they can do a lot for that without going nuts with stuff like tie-dye. How much will it come to total? A lot of stuff is optional with Wings, but they sure have a great sale on now. 17. I think it is better to actually go to a DZ to inquire rather than call. Let them talk to you in person, don't be in a rush, catch them when they're not busy, and be humble but confident (review things available on net such as the SIM - know what you should know). Of course it helps if there is an obvious DZ that you would pick to to continue your training. 18. Humid air will be lower density than drier air. It seems counter intuitive, but it is true. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
  19. I've seen many pictures where articulated harnesses were "articulating/flexing" at the webbing away from the rings. That doesn't make me think the rings have real value. I've skipped articulation on both of my new rigs in the last 8 years, and I had plenty of money to spend. I've found the std stainless leg straps that came with my newer Infinity to be fantastic for not slipping at all. My first Infinity 8 years ago had cad plated steel hardware, and they slipped a lot. I had heard that stainless leg strap hardware was more prone to slip, but that certainly isn't true for my rig. I'm very glad I took Kelly's advice and just ordered the std stainless leg buckles, rather than going for the fancy versions with the metal spring pushing on the webbing - absolutely no need for that. Of course I don't swoop, so maybe others have more to say on that with the shifting around they do. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
  20. If you don't get stainless, then cadmium plated steel is the standard. I no longer want toxic cadmium dust. 21. For now you have shown that your ability to engage in intellegent discussion is limited. Unless you can have some sort of scientific explanation to present or at least an attempt to clarify your assertions, will lead me to believe you lost interest after 30 seconds and decided to throw an insult instead. Your underlying assumption (that you state/the video states) is wrong. The acceleration wasn't uniform. The data is your guy's data, and it shows that the acceleration wasn't steady. Do I have to point to the jagged shape of the data? Can't you see it? Besides the shape of the data that is visible, the method of measuring the fall is not precise enough, and not sampled often enough to resolve all of the fluctuations that certainly would have happened. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
  22. Evidently they were out of fuel or really low on fuel because they "forgot" to refuel they spiffy speed boat after finding the Japanese whaling fleet. Yes, they were low, but they had plenty enough to move out of the way. They were not even at the controls of their ship. 23. You ignore that your data shows that the accel was NOT UNIFORM. The depth of your lack of understanding is shown by your acceptance of your video to be showing an experiment. If you knew better you would be embarrassed. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. 24. It would probably not take such a significant change as that. More like cut it down by 20% or so. That 20% in a dimension of the pocket might actually have a much larger % change in the force (drag). 25. I would modify the pocket so that it catches a bit less air. Some strategic reduction of the width of the pocket by someone that knows how to use needle and thread should do the trick. Such modification should be easy to fine tune before making it more permanent.
