I'll work with you to help you find some decent gear. At your size, it will be relatively easy. My first rig was an impulse buy that was barely airworthy. There is no reason for you to make that mistake. Don't worry, be happy! See 'ya out there soon! Poll: What Reserve Handle: Ring / Soft /Other
sundevil777 replied to fcajump's topic in Gear and Rigging
It has been shown that it is possible to hold onto a pillow with a great deal of force, but I think that finding might not be so true if the pillow must be grabbed and force applied very quickly. When I need to grab a handle fast and be able to pull hard, I want something that allows me to grab it using that wonderful opposable thumb. I think that much of the objection to the standard D handle is minimized when some alternatives are available, see pics. I think this version of the low profile metal handle is great, and much better than the triangular alternatives I've seen. It just doesn't stick out that much, but is still very easy to find in a hurry. The second pic shows both for comparison, they fit in the same pocket. It's August...Anyone else missing the WFFC
sundevil777 replied to jaffo's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
It would be nice if it was more like an exotic location/vacation with other activity possibilities such as scuba diving, etc. than camping in the middle of the midwest (plenty of opportunities to do that). The boogie in Bali (about 1990?) comes to mind as an example. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. It doesn't matter how many times you go back and forth on a road, that doesn't stop someone from driving toward you on the road when you have assured yourself that it is empty. It doesn't prevent a couple people from coming toward you, with one of them passing the other. they see you way far ahead and think they have time to pass, but don't really because you're going twice the legal limit. What kind of jumps have you done already? AFF, Tandem, or static line? That will help us answer your question without confusing you more. If a closing loop breaks while closing, it should have been replaced a long time ago! Well, tell me where and what from can it get a stronger pull, than closing with a power tool? I think the point would be that whatever force is needed to get the closing loop out far enough so that the pin can be inserted, a large fraction of that force is still present after you are done. This of course would depend on how much extra you pull the closing loop past the min required point needed to get the pin in the loop. Ok. Wait 45 seconds before pulling. Then do CRW? Yes, I always did CRW after a normal RW jump. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am

Quite right, both are needed! Only in government is there no push to be more efficient. In private industry, sometimes people will say that some particular dept is engaged in "empire building". But that is nothing compared to how it happens everywhere in government departments. Part of the benefit of crossbraced canopies is that fewer lines can be used, the crossbracing makes up for it. OK, so tail pockets/some limited number of stows on the canopy serve the function of keeping the lines behaved, but nothing keeps the canopy from inflating early as it lifts off? I can agree with you on this. I'd rather have a VAT with some exclusion for food, a certain amount of housing cost to replace all income tax. The rich spend a lot on luxury, so they would pay when they spend. I'd also have HUGE taxes on cigarettes and alcohol. Am I the only one that heard about how the document that Obama got from Romer (the chief economic advisor leaving soon) had a "multiplier" of 1.55 for stimulus dollars spent, meaning that they assumed that each dollar spent would mean 1.55 dollars of permanent economic impact. So, it is Obama that thinks govt spending does MORE than pay for itself. Certainly tax cuts result in some amount of increased revenue, even if not 1:1, how ridiculous is it to complain about that when Obama is claiming a 1.55:1 on spending!?

I would think that the majority of the initial expense could be spread out over an entire dropzone's users, then each person that wants to buy the little (relatively cheap) unit to attach to the d-bag/risers, etc. It sure seems like the kid tracker units are really small, I would think the cost would put it into the no-brainer gotta have category. I am surprised that when doing base at terminal speeds (I would think long delay wingsuit has a comparable to terminal overall airspeed) that it would be free-packed with no line stows. I understand the desire to avoid stows hanging up, but free packed and no stows would normally scare the bejeezus out of me. I know you base guys have it figured out obviously, and I've seen that done in the 80's at terminal, I'm just saying that isn't intuitively a good idea, and so it is interesting for me. I like to talk about things that are interesting, and so that is why I ask. Also, I'm about to get a wingsuit, might go to Europe within the next few years, you know the rest...:) People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I also have a 210, same thing for my dozen or so jumps on it. I figure if that is what it takes to get comfortable openings, I'm OK with that. Of course I realize that isn't really why it is that way, but whatever works... Don't bother stuffing the nose away, and it is called, "end cell closure". Please excuse my ignorance about base jumping, but it looked like there was no deployment bag. Is that normal? How is it done so that it is an orderly deployment? At your size, there are going to be a LOT of used rigs that will fit you, so don't feel pressured to get the first thing that comes along, there will be lots more. Take the time to get good advice on any potential buys. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. The scentific method or assumtion, what are you inclined to beleive.

Freefall did not occur, your own data from the video upon which I commented showed that. It was close, but it wasn't 1.0g freefall. Just because some NIST guy used the term freefall when he should have stated it as some fraction close to freefall does not give you some big confession that is important. Did NIST say in writing what the acceleration profile was? I'm talking about details, not the use of the general, non-specific term "freefall". How close to freefall should it have been if it were not an intentional demolition? You say -
Grabbing toggles that naturally are "open" and easy to grab is extremely quick to do, and since toggle pressure is so light, there really is not much delay at all in pulling a toggle way down if needed, and they provide an extremely effective turn. I'll have to try grabbing risers to make a comparison for myself, but I really think I can turn very quickly compared to doing it with risers, but I'll give it a go. The NIST admitting that it fell at (near) frefall was an afterthought, correct? Not really important to their findings I thought. Wasn't it truthers that pushed them to admit that it was true? So it doesn't at all relate to the validity of the NIST report. I've watched the various bullshit, embarrasing videos and such that you provided, the ones with the dropping things on top of other things experiments that you claim to be more useful than the Purdue simulations. You take those "experiments" to be useful evidence, but then insult me, saying I must have cheated in college, that I need to be reminded about Newton's laws. It is embarrassing when you attempt to get technical, seriously awful and pathetic. But it really doesn't matter how much you don't know about it, you claim that there is valid analysis to back up your claims. So, why don't you show me where your truther buddies have estimated how long it should have taken. It is really not at all interesting to attempt to point out the flaws in your positions, because you just redirect the conversation to something else, It took so long for you to even address the point of how long you think it should have taken for the buildings to fall, and you say it should have been -
I think I've been doing this for most of my jumping years. It may have become a distinct habit while I had an old paraflite astrobe 7-cell that would not seem to open until I unstowed the brakes. I read about so many that say they will use risers to steer away from others in the area after opening/steer toward the DZ, not unstowing brakes until the slider is stowed, etc. Does wanting to pull the slider down all the way drive a lot of people to delay unstowing brakes - because it is tougher to get it past the toggles when unstowed? When I started jumping a square canopy, nobody pulled down a slider, or even collapsed it. I don't swoop, and use wide risers, so of course I never pull the slider down. I also stow my excess brake line in a way that can't come loose and keeps the excess out of the way so I can't get my fingers trapped by mistakenly inserting my hands in the wrong way while quickly grabbing the brakes. I am able to grab the brakes in less time (I think) than it would take for me to get a good hold on a riser and execute a turn compared to using the brakes (riser turns being less effective). So, am I unusual, unsafe, what do you think? People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired.
