They don't change the activation altitude per a specific request. They now have a "user selectable activation altitude" feature that is incorporated in older units (like yours and mine) that go in for service. This is different than using the offset feature, and is specifically intended for those that want to bump up the activation without changing other parameters as the offset method would do. The link below (from April of 2012) is where you're supposed to be able to read more about it, but the link doesn't seem to be working: http://www.cypres.cc/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=396%3Acypres-2-neu-auswaehlbare-einstellungen&catid=84%3Atechnik-aktuell&Itemid=178&lang=en People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. In earlier threads about AAD activations, it has been discussed at length that you will get a higher activation if in a vertical orientation ( than if belly down. When a cypres is said that it will activate at 750 or 800 ft or whatever exactly it is, that is in a belly down orientation. The transition from belly to vertical also results in a quick pressure change that appears high speed to the pressure sensor, so getting stood up by your canopy above 1000 or whatever can result in an activation. I had an old sweethog pull out/throwout hybrid with a plastic martin baker style handle at the bottom of the container, attached to a nylon covered cable that snaked in to close it (had to use a bungee closing loop or the pull force was way too high), and the PC was in a pouch against the back. I also had a Northern Light II rig with a front of legstrap pouch. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. The goal of providing a mechanism to prevent the pin from coming out is worthwhile. Better ways that could be devised to keep a pin in place that would be independent of loop tension. As others have implied, I believe it can be done in any plane without causing excessive stress. That requires that it be done right. Since it requires skill, there is reason for concern. I would like to be on the plane for a nice roll if I really knew the pilot had the skill, but not on the way to altitude with a full load. Maybe better would be after they exit. If I were the owner of the plane, I wouldn't want a pilot I hired to do that - no way. I've tried a couple programs including Realplayer to save youtube videos so that they can be played without internet access. I have yet to find something that actually works well. Always frustrating. Is there anything that works easily? Thanks in advance People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I have trusted him with a lot more than that! He bought the rights to make the Northern Lite container (a one man shop), which eventually became what is now owned by Kelly Farrington as VSE - the Infinity. No need to hesitate at all. How to get kicked in the nuts while skydiving

Icarus Nano or PD Optimum reserves?
sundevil777 replied to Blumpkin's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I didn't realize there was a published standard method that had an official PIA endorsement. I'm interested to hear from anyone with info about this std. I guess I haven't been paying attention to this issue of how to measure, or perhaps I just thought that the difference of opinion on how to do it wasn't too significant. Are some/many mfgs fighting against the use of the std - choosing not to state what the size would be according to that std? I understand mfgs not wanting to explain the change - in effect have it look like their products have changed when they haven't. I wonder how old this std is and what the mfgs are going to do to adopt it, if anything. They both have AADs, so everything's cool right?
sundevil777 replied to Remster's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Likely not. They exit at 0:30, the other guy has cypres fire at 1:28. So thats 58 seconds from exit to cypres fire. Which would give roughly 150 m (first 6 seconds) + 2600 m (52 seconds at 50 m/s) + 225 (cypres fire altitude) = 2975 m ~ 9800 feet which would be pretty normal cessna exit altitude. It seems like you're confirming my point. Most people have a bit more than a minute of freefall time from higher altitudes. I wonder if these guys might have been used to higher altitudes, and suffered the internal clock problem. Just guessing, but it could be another good lesson to be learned from this, or at least to be reminded about. I wonder if it is practical to put one arm up to push against both sets of main risers, so that when they release they would fly up and away from the reserve, instead of flopping around more randomly where they would more likely foul with the reserve. Do any Drop Zones state side offer C-130 jumps?
sundevil777 replied to Hollywood5581's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Quite right. Tailgates are great fun, but at least a Skyvan or Casa are pretty easy to find in regular use. More rare are the Sherpa and turbine Caribou, both of which I've jumped several times. The user interface and manuals were developed by engineers, apparently no concern for their usability by people that weren't already a part of the product's development. This means that their stuff would be good for a person wanting to do a univ thesis on how not to design and document such a product. New Royal Caribbean Ships promise an onboard Windtunnel

If a person had the density of a ping pong ball, then that would likely work as described. I wonder how it would work if you took a golf ball and an airstream moving fast enough to support it. Possible device for Lost Cutaway canopy

If you only jump at Eloy or somewhere similar, that is easy to do. If you jump at a place with large areas of trees, etc., then it isn't at all so simple as just landing next to your main. Please confirm that the cable is still secured to the pillow, despite the fact that the stitching at the top failed. I would definitely not expect that the top seam is what holds the cable to the rest of the pillow. I know I've seen an example of inner construction a long time ago, but can't remember the details. If you are going to replace the handle, and I'm not sure that would actually be needed, then you could take it apart and show us how it is put together. A loop cutaway handle doesn't depend on any stitching. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. From the above statement it sounds possible that the excess brake line was not stowed and you grabbed the toggle through the loop of the excess. I don't understand this statement. It is not clear to me that the knot happened because you released the toggle - it could have happened as you released your brakes - pulling the toggle through the loop of the excess. Please clarify. My first new rig - need to make an informed decision
sundevil777 replied to theQ's topic in Gear and Rigging
Your exit weight will put you past the "exp" recommendations even for a Sabre2, for which the table is shifted up in terms of weight compared to the Silhouette. What this is telling you is that it was not wise to buy a container for which you might be able to fit a 150 into it. You have time to sell your container for a larger, more appropriate one. Instructors are not always as conservative as they should be. You should also consider trusting the advice of the canopy manufacturers and downsizing progression charts which are available from very respected experts on the subject like Brian Germain - search for it. My first new rig - need to make an informed decision
sundevil777 replied to theQ's topic in Gear and Rigging
My opinion is worth what you paid for it, and I don't know you. But you did ask, so: based on the other information you have given, that is very aggressive. You haven't shown any other signs of wanting to be that aggressive, so I would say it's just too small! Yes, it looks that way but I won't transition from 220 to 150 just like that. I will not jump my new rig anytime soon 1. I need get comfortable on a 170 first, doing the transition downwards properly 210, 190, 170 - I will ask my instructors to advise me on that transition. 2. It won't happen anytime soon. I spent most of my budget, need to get a main(thinking Silhouette) and an AAD. Have you considered that your exit weight will exceed what PD recommends for maximum, and way above what it considers appropriate for an expert?
