If you don't have any hearing loss issues, it doesn't make sense that you can't hear them when so many other people (including myself) can. Even in an open faced (pro-tec) helmet, I was able to hear it without a problem. Which AAD to get? Vigil II, Cypres 2, M2?

I don't think trunk temps get nearly as high as many might think. It is not like the passenger compartment, where the glass/greenhouse can make 180 F temps likely. That just can't happen in a trunk. The original swift SB was about the ribs not being the right shape so it would affect the airfoil effectiveness. There was an SB on the swift plus concerning the cascades - bartacks being possibly too wide to grab the trapped line or something like that. The swift plus reserves are fine canopies. I have a ride on a 175 and the 225 versions. Great openings and great landings. It should be known there is no 200 version, despite that number being on the label for the 175 (weight limit). I don't remember there being any bad reputation due to some incident, just an AD or SB for certain serial numbers. The original swift (5 cell) is not a good idea, I agree. Aerodyne ads do not say that the design of the reserve changes at all between the normal smart and the smartlpv - just the material used. Icarus ads seem to also say that only the material is different than their normal material reserve. The optimum is clearly said to be a new design compared to the regular PD reserve. Of those choices it really is just the Optimum that is different (therefore should fly different) than the standard reserve from that mfg. The speed is supposed to be a low pack volume reserve. Anyone missings a Wings in / around Jackson MS?

I understand what you're saying, I was just thinking that a police report of a stolen rig may have been filed. It is quite possible that there was a theft without that being noted on this forum, or someone on this forum knowing about it and reading this thread so they could let us know. Police should be called, I think. At least they could get to the seller more directly than we can, by going through craigslist admin. I think it is a good idea to un-collapse the slider to the extent that the red tabs are slightly retracted into the slider. This ought to make it less likely that they could get caught by a cascade. Unfortunately it cannot be paid after a cut-away. If someone lets their subscription lapse, we disable the device's SIM card with our carrier. This is so we don't have to continue paying our carrier for a device that our customer isn't paying for. If someone has a cut-away with our device and their subscription isn't current, the cellular network will block the device from connecting or communicating. Once someone does renew their subscription we can re-activate the SIM card in our systems right away, but it takes 24-48 hours for our carrier to get it registered through their network again. It sounds to me like you're saying it actually can be paid after a cutaway, but it would be 1 or 2 days until it would be activated. So, a canopy would be out in the elements for that long. If you assume 10 min of exposure to the sun on a normal jump, it really isn't that many equivalent jumps worth of exposure (100 to 200 or so at the most). Is there something else that prevents a person from being willing to wait for the activation to occur before being able to track down the canopy? I hope you don't really mean that. If you do there is great reason to doubt your design. I hope you mean that the various ways it could get stuck have been considered and you can explain how your design makes them extremely unlikely. How does the unit know if the cable is still in the unit or has been withdrawn (cutaway)? How can we be sure that the cable can't get stuck? Crossing the Potomac-D.C. directions help please
sundevil777 replied to sundevil777's topic in The Bonfire
I successfully crossed the Potomac. There was very little traffic at 9 PM. I'm concentrating on the air and space museum today with my son and then tonight will seem him in the evening parade at the Marine Barracks. Really, 3.5 hours for just that stretch? OK, it is good to know that I won't be there at 8...I don't have any appointment Th night, so it is better I guess to just get there later and at least have a little less frustrating drive. Crossing the Potomac-D.C. directions help please

Thanks, and you are correct about my route coming from Ohio. 1) Would I be better off to not cross the river into Maryland - to come into D.C. from the North somehow? If that is viable, what general route would you suggest, such as hugging the river, or heading east and then south? Probably a lot of city traffic and stop lights on those alternatives that make it no better than going into Virginia? 2) Is the 395 bridge the best bridge to take? It looks like the route to the hotel is reasonably direct using some of the other bridges, such as the Arlington Memorial Bridge heading into the Lincoln Memorial, or the Teddy Roosevelt Bridge. I am intending to pay the $36/day to park at the hotel and not take the car out until I leave on Sunday. Thank you very much. ETA - I will not be able to use HOV lanes, and no EZ pass People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I'll be getting to D.C. to see my younger replica the marine (ceremonial marcher) Thursday night likely around 8PM at the earliest. My understanding is that crossing the river is a big mess depending on the time of day, or maybe always? I'll be coming from Ohio, so approaching from the NW. It looks like mapquest advises to cross the river well north of the city, to get on the south side of it, and then cross again on 395 to get to my hotel which is just south of the air and space museum. Is this a good idea, or might I be better to stay north of the river and head into the city? Thanks in advance People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. That is not what I would call a high flare. The video also show the person letting up very slightly on the toggles after the initial quick flare. This is not unusual, and should be understood by newbies that it was OK to do because the jumper didn't let up much and kept flying it. Some of the other options, such as the "tiles" and such, provide less capability/distance from the target, but they're a lot less expensive and have no recurring cost and no need for cell service to be present. I would also want to know if there is any mechanism for the activation cable to possibly be trapped/stuck. Of course I would think that has already been considered, but I'd want to know more. I started in '80, and only 4 years ago tried a digital just out of curiosity. I was immediately sold on it. The assertion that people will take longer looking at it I think depends on the person and in part on practice. I contend that a person may also take a very long time looking at an analog alti - depending... I first tried a Viso II, and it was good, but I found the larger, thinner stroke characters (and fewer characters) of the Neptune II to be much easier to read. The old Neptune II model can be found used for a reasonable price, just put the "armor" that is available for that model on it and treat it well. I've had mine for almost 4 years and no trouble at all. I think the price of the Neptune III is too high. People with experience have a hard time remembering exactly what things are like when your experience is little or lacking. So I am not saying do this or that this is a good approach. Visualize in your mind how you would exit and react if you exited with your eyes closed and kept them closed for a few seconds. If you visualize that, what do you see? What do you feel? I am curious. I know what I feel and what I imagine. That reminds me of an exit I did so long ago from a C-182 long ago on a completely dark-no moonlight night jump. We launched a 4 way and pulled it off perfectly. We all talked after the jump about how it felt so easy, perhaps in part because we had no reference to the horizon, we just flew the relative wind. Those having issues probably would do well to close their eyes for a couple seconds, it would be pretty fun also. He's fresh out of Bowling Green State Univ, with a good job in his field of study, but no credit history (640 credit score), but he still got a lease deal that was very close to the best they were offering on a national promotion for the most credit worthy. Only $198/mo for a Civic LX, with nothing down, no other taxes or fees of any kind. He'll be able to stay within the mileage limits, but he may buy it after 3 years anyway, or I'll want to buy it, because adding together the lease payments and residual value, it is still a decent price. The car is great, I've always loved the two-tiered dash, can't understand what some have against it. They are close to introducing the 2016 full model change, so that helps with the price, and I like getting the last year of a 'generation', pretty much always less problems with the later years than the first. So, if you're at all inclined about a Civic, now is the time. I never had any part in designing of the Civic model, but I know them very well. It is a really impressive car. This was my first experience of buying or leasing or anything having to do with a car dealer, and it was actually very easy and straightforward, didn't have to fight, knew the deal was good based upon pricing tools so easily available. Design features that affect reserve extraction forces
sundevil777 replied to Deimian's topic in Gear and Rigging
My memory is that the Basik has upper corner features that are specifically designed to overlap the corners and retain the free bag. Perhaps it retains it just enough, or perhaps it retains it too much? Hopefully those with first hand knowledge can say it is good. It seems that there is a general acceptance that among rigs where the problem is perceived to exist, the larger sizes are less affected.
