From aero-news.net: Virgin Atlantic Defers A380 Deliveries For Four Years Says It Wants Airliner To Prove Itself First More trouble for the Airbus A380 program... as Virgin Atlantic announced Friday it will delay deliveries of its six superjumbo jets until 2013, in order to give Airbus four extra years to work out any bugs with the plane. While the news is discouraging for Airbus -- one could argue it is thinly-veiled criticism of Airbus's ability to deliver a trouble-free plane to early customers -- it is also something of a win for the European planemaker. There was speculation Virgin would cancel its orders outright, after what had originally been reported to the carrier as a six-month delay in the delivery of the first A380 in Virgin colors grew to 22 months. The BBC reports the airline says it still has confidence in the A380... but it wants the plane to prove itself in commercial service for several years before it puts its own A380s into service. Virgin Atlantic will extend leases on a number of Boeing 747-400s to cover for the delay. Virgin is the first airline to reach an agreement with Airbus on compensation or other arrangements after the latest delay to the A380 program was announced last month. Other airlines affected by the delays -- most notably Emirates, the largest A380 customer with 43 planes ordered -- are still locked in talks with Airbus... and have threatened to cancel their orders outright. I think Rush Limbaugh is a great political commentator
sundevil777 replied to sundevil777's topic in Speakers Corner
How do you know you're not a victim of the media? I really do think that most liberals, even most liberal politicians want to do good for the country, they really do have good intentions. I think they have a different view of what is good. It seems that many libs, including the drive by media, are not so generous to their political opponents. They seem quite sure that conservatives are motivated by things such as greed/oil/power/revenge for trying to kill dad and such. I hope that attitude is starting to be obvious to the voters that are not political news junkies such as ourselves. Wings container - distorted (ovalled) hip rings
sundevil777 replied to pchapman's topic in Gear and Rigging
You wouldn't want a brittle metal. You just want it to be strong enough. Fortunately, ductility of metals often works in their favor when their strength is exceeded. The ring distorts until the stress is lowered because of the different shape. Obviously you don't want it to distort, but it really doesn't mean it was close to breaking. So you're proud of not thinking for yourself. Indeed, a strange thing to say. Phil 'Thinking for yourself' should also include being correct when making insults. A dittohead is a person who likes but does not necessarily agree with The Rush Limbaugh Show. Regular listeners to the show claim that it is a mistake to think that "ditto" means that the caller agrees with Rush Limbaugh's opinions. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dittohead People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. How about this one, you're a victim of the media. I also regularly listen to NPR and even Air America, and among those I watch on TV are the Jim Lehrer newshour on PBS, Travis Smiley (he sure is a racist). I wouldn't want to be considered a victim. Your clear implication is that you are better, smarter than that...not so dumb as to be taken in by the con artist conservatives. That is a very elitist attitude, in my opinion, and one that is shared by the Democratic leadership and the drive by media. sundevil777 replied to sundevil777's topic in Speakers Corner
He tries to be funny, sometimes not so successfully. There IS plenty of fossil fuel available. Between coal, oil shale, oil sands, and plain old oil (especially located in places we don't want to disturb like under the ocean) there are hundreds of years worth. That is separate from the fact that it is awful for the environment to get at it and use it. Be aware the Ferry boats often have a really long wait (meaning you are likely to not get on the first boat) if you want to take a car on board. Walking on is a lot less stressful, if the scenery of the boat ride is really what interests you, then just taking it there and back again might be the way to go. I really like his show. I liked his TV show from many years ago even more. I don't agree with him on everything, and he can often go on and on, repeating himself, but I think he's got incredible insight. Rush and Robert Novak were two of the only commentators to correctly predict the historic Republican takeover of congress in '94 - sorry to bring up such a bad memory for you Democrats. He is right on the money when he coins terms like 'drive-by media' and others such as 'Gorbasm'. I was listening to him when he made the stupid comment about Michael Fox. I instantly knew it was a stupid thing to say. He almost immediately apologized for the 'faking it' part, but essentially he was right on the mark with the 'off his meds' part. Now Michael Fox says he was overmedicated, whatever, it still means that they chose to film the commercial when he looked awful. He inserted himself into the political arena, made assertions that were false, but libs expect him to off limits for criticism. I say bullshit. Why not show him trying to feed himself, he would look really pitiful then. So, in summary, I know that Rush is hated by the libs. Of course he is hated. Conservative talk radio is a big reason that libs lost power. Dan Rather, Walter Cronkite and such no longer have a stranglehold on news reporting, no longer able to set the agenda for political discussion. I'm a dittohead and proud of it. So go ahead, libs, tell me I'm a bigot/racist/'phobe/stupid/neocon whatever. I can handle your hostility, vitriol and intolerance. The Museum of Flight is reakkt nice. Part of it is the original factory where Bill Boeing started making seaplanes. It also happens to have a skydiving display that includes a pic with me on a jump into the Renton (737/757) factory. They might still give tours of the Boeing Everett factory (747/767/777 factory). If you're a computer guy, maybe a tour of Microsoft is in order. Taking a ferry across Puget Sound can be nice, but cold. The underground tour is good, maybe you've done that already. If you like getting out into the woods, unlimited possibilities there. There are some breweries that give tours. Check out FX McRory's and Sneakers right near the baseball stadium for eating/drinking (mostly drinking). Umberto's is right there also, for really good Italian. found a willing balloon pilot....
sundevil777 replied to skydvr69's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I think he's wondering if the possible up and down, or slow climb of the balloon might cause it to get confused about where ground level is. I would think there is no problem. It really isn't that slow of a climb, and going up or down a little is no problem as this happens all the time at jump run altitude. The limit on time at altitude is quite long, and unless you go below the altitude of your takeoff (plateau near a cliff situation as described in the manual), no concern. Alma Cogan has nothing to do with it! Since the question at hand involved making logical/philosophical choices... Just a silly allusion - to the logician sketch that follows the witch burning on the album of the soundtrack of the trailer of the film of... From Monty Python's "The Holy Grail" album, in which John Cleese as the professor of logic explains why the witch burning sketch was not logically correct. Good evening. The last scene was interesting from the point of view of a professional logician because it contained a number of logical fallacies; that is, invalid propositional constructions and syllogistic forms, of the type so often committed by my wife. "All wood burns," states Sir Bedevere. "Therefore," he concludes, "all that burns is wood." This is, of course, pure bullshit. Universal affirmatives can only be partially converted: all of Alma Cogan is dead, but only some of the class of dead people are Alma Cogan. "Oh yes," one would think. However, my wife does not understand this necessary limitation of the conversion of a proposition; consequently, she does not understand me. For how can a woman expect to appreciate a professor of logic, if the simplest cloth-eared syllogism causes her to flounder. For example, given the premise, "all fish live underwater" and "all mackerel are fish", my wife will conclude, not that "all mackerel live underwater", but that "if she buys kippers it will not rain", or that "trout live in trees", or even that "I do not love her any more." This she calls "using her intuition". I call it "crap", and it gets me very irritated because it is not logical. "There will be no supper tonight," she will sometimes cry upon my return home. "Why not?" I will ask. "Because I have been screwing the milkman all day," she will say, quite oblivious of the howling error she has made. "But," I will wearily point out, "even given that the activities of screwing the milkman and getting supper are mutually exclusive, now that the screwing is over, surely then, supper may, logically, be got." " You don't love me any more," she will now often postulate. "If you did, you would give me one now and again, so that I would not have to rely on that rancid Pakistani for my orgasms." "I will give you one after you have got me my supper," I now usually scream, "but not before" -- as you understand, making her bang contingent on the arrival of my supper. "God, you turn me on when you're angry, you ancient brute!" she now mysteriously deduces, forcing her sweetly throbbing tongue down my throat. "Fuck supper!" I now invariably conclude, throwing logic somewhat joyously to the four winds, and so we thrash about on our milk-stained floor, transported by animal passion, until we sink back, exhausted, onto the cartons of yoghurt. I'm afraid I seem to have strayed somewhat from my original brief. But in a nutshell: Sex is more fun than logic -- one cannot prove this, but it "is" in the same sense that Mount Everest "is", or that Alma Cogan "isn't". Goodnight. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am

I would say no, you're not at all manipulative or misleading, like Michael Fox was. I think the choice is easy, you save the baby. It is the right choice, one cannot prove this, but it 'is' in the same sense that Mount Everest 'is', or that Alma Cogan 'isn't'. Goodnight. I remember reading of a few bad experiences on the forums here. Did you do a search? Did you read the reviews of the product in the gear section? I'm guessing you didn't, because the 5 reviews there are not so good, one of them sound like a situation much like yours, in terms of customer service. As someone that has designed instrument panels for many Acura models, it is really cool for them to mention Acura in a positive way like that. Trey and Matt obviously have very good taste for outstanding vehicles, most of them designed and built in America! Diddy already did that. What didn't Diddy do! The reporter says, "it may be petty..." Yes, I think it is petty. Bush knows he is not very slick. Clinton, Carter, now they were extremely slick with words and conveying sincerity. I like the fact that Bush can laugh at himself about it. For instance, they have a regular meeting they intentionally call the 'strategery' meeting. When asked what my typical fallrate is, I always acknowledge that it is SAS. It is rare that the person that asked knows what that means. Do any of the other freefall computers offer a normalized speed? I don't understand how they could not have this feature. When developing a product, you would think that they would at least examine what their competition offers and try to do as well if not better. That's a good one, again without punishing the local businesses. However the politicians may not care/already know, but the local businesses may be unaware of what is brewing for their future. How about giving several copies of an informational flyer on the subject to every jumper, then ask them to give a copy to every merchant they encounter. Instead of punishing the innocent business owners, with them not even knowing why they have less activity, they will be motivated to apply pressure from all directions on the corrupt politicians. I wonder what local newspapers done with this story? Even though it is not as juicy as a scandal in the big city, I would think a Phoenix of Tucson paper would love to sink their teeth into such an obvious case of wrongdoing.
