Delay was willing to talk about the details of his assertion that he wasn't guilty. Ney has claimed innocence, but wasn't willing to discuss it, and his own party didn't believe him at all, they wanted him to resign a long time ago. Has Jefferson tried to explain how he isn't guilty of corruption? I think that Jefferson is around because the Dems are completely defiant in the face of scandal, almost no matter how bad it looks. But they attack Repubs at the slightest hint of scandal, then have the nerve to claim hypocrisy. The scandalous matters at hand are not revolving around Christian values and such, so I don't think the claim that "Republicans claim to be the party of moral values" works to deflect my assertion of hypocrisy. Hamas Chief: Truce With Israel Is Over
sundevil777 replied to warpedskydiver's topic in Speakers Corner
Israel attacked because they were getting attacked. I can recognize who the real barbarians are. The Arabs all promised to destroy Israel before it was created. They tried to do it immediately after it was created, but have failed over and over again. I understand that you wish the UN had not done what it did in 1948. When the Arab leaders decide to have as much courage as Anwar Sadat had, then there will be a chance for peace. He truly had a change of heart, realized it was not in his people's interest to continue. We have the opposite of that now. I assert that it was not Isreal that needed a change of heart to make peace with Egypt. Do you have the courage for that change of heart? Twisted risers not noticed? How about a walk through?
sundevil777 replied to inyournavl's topic in Gear and Rigging
I have never had a problem with taking off a main and setting it aside in a way that allows it to be reconnected correctly. I will continue to not bother repacking it because I have absolute confidence in my ability to do it right. It is all in the way that the main is removed/stored, and labeling the risers R/L helps. What can the Dems do to change the course in Iraq?

So you acknowledge that campaign finance reform was a fraud, useless if not even resulting in a worse situation than before? Why just tell the Israelis to cut the crap? Is only one side at fault? What do you mean by part II of the 9/11 commission report? Do we need to find out if it was all a conspiracy by Bush? Hamas Chief: Truce With Israel Is Over
sundevil777 replied to warpedskydiver's topic in Speakers Corner
I think the explanation is that mistakes are common in war, it isn't neat and clean. Israel hasn't gone far enough to kill the leadership of their enemy. So they keep having to go back again and again, and when it is ugly, Israel gets most of the attention for it. Millions of civilians died in WWII, good thing we didn't have a media that would use it to argue that the war was not just. Hamas must be more thoroughly defeated before peace will have a chance. Arafat should have been killed. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. You're such a fearmonger! There is no threat! Haven't you heard, we need more money spent on first responders in every little podunk town, aplogize, and to make sure we don't insult them anymore. Then all will be good. Maybe Jimmy Carter will go to negotiate 'peace in our times'. You answered your own question. Read the Friedman OP-ED in the NYT online today (it's free this week). He has been hawkish on Iraq, as well as being a Pulitzer prize winning Middle East expert, and his outlook is very grim. It's time to get our boys out of that cess pool and let them kill eachother. Do you think the Dems will withhold funding? People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. Ney. Sorry, I meant "Nay". Ney faced the wrath of his colleagues, and also from Democrats, they wanted him to resign a long time ago. However, Jefferson did not face such pressure. I think you would call that hypocritical, I would also. Thans for reminding us of another sleezy Democratic politician that won't resign, and how the Democrats are hypocritical. Come on now, don't be surprised at how you get a lashing for buying an SUV when you don't have a big family. SUV = evil nowadays. However, if you had bought a big 4WD truck/sports car/luxury car with a powerful engine that sucks a lot of gas, then you avoid the criticism. It doesn't matter what mileage your car gets, only SUVs are evil. The MDX, then the Pilot were the first SUVs with a fold away/flat 3rd row seat and fold forward/down flat 2nd row seats. This means you can sleep in the vehicle very nicely, no need for a tent at boogies. Someday, I predict, you will appreciate the benefit of being able to have the 3rd row available at any time. What can the Dems do to change the course in Iraq?
sundevil777 replied to sundevil777's topic in Speakers Corner
Why does that matter? The FACT is that the voters have expressed dissatisfaction with the way Bushco has been running things. That is a very important message to give. It's called "accountability". I think it matters because the Dems said that they would chart a new direction in the war, a change of course. I'm now just saying that their majority in congress doesn't give the Dems the ability to do that anymore than they could before. It really was amazing the way that Howard Dean admitted they were powerless to make a change. That admission would not have helped his party win the election, there is no way he would have admitted that before, so that is why it is important. If Bush sees the election as a message from the voters that he must change, then it will happen. This is similar to what Arnold did in California when his initiatives failed. Perceptions are quite interesting, because I can tell you with absolute confidence that when all the things that you could measure are compared, the Sequoia is a barge. But, perceptions by individuals are different than measurments, that is for sure. All that matters is that you're satisfied. Doesn't the Sequoia 3rd row seat fold/stow away? The 3rd row on the Honda Pilot and Acura MDX do. I think it is a big pain in the ass to need to remove it. Did you want the 3rd row for seating capacity or room for the dog? Honestly, the Sequoia drives like a barge. I think that one of the best reasons for buying an SUV or minivan is that the 2nd row of seats will recline, and that makes a HUGE difference in the ability of kids to sleep comfortably/for a long time. If your kids can sleep easily, then parents can be happy. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. Does moral objectivity mean there is a God?
sundevil777 replied to steveorino's topic in Speakers Corner
Has there been a complete culture were murder was accepted as being amoral? You mean moral instead of amoral, right? Wouldn't the cultures that practiced human sacrifice qualify? Wouldn't cultures that regularly started wars/conquered others solely for the sake of conquest/imperialism qualify? At some periods in our history, the US would fit that description. I curious about what characteristics of the Sequoia were attractive to you. I don't think it compares well to the Honda Pilot, did you look at that? The Sequoia is significantly bigger/bulkier. Perhaps the Sequoia has more towing capacity. If you're partial to the Toyota lineup, what pushed you to their land yacht instead of the Highlander? I thought that Humanism would reject your assertion that certain moral codes are universal. I think Humanism is a religion, however it rejects moral absolutes. What can the Dems do to change the course in Iraq?
sundevil777 replied to sundevil777's topic in Speakers Corner
Glenn Beck brought up a good point this morning. Howard Dean yesterday admitted that they can't change anything in Iraq without pres. Bush going along with it, unless they are willing to withhold funding. Not surprisingly, they didn't say that before the election. So, what can they now do different to make a course correction that they couldn't do when they didn't have a majority in both houses of congress? They can make suggestions for new strategy, but are in no more powerful a position to force it to happen unless they withhold funding. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am -
You didn't add what car you'd love and/or recommend in the "sporty & roomy" category. A Schwinn w/ a basket, perhaps? OK, I'd recommend the Acura MDX (both the old and recently released new generation) the turbocharged Acura RDX, and the Honda CRV (both old and recently released new generations). Having designed interior parts for Honda/Acura for 10 years, I'm biased. I do have a lot of knowledge of the competition, however. In order to help give useful suggestions to the person that started the thread, it is necessary to know if they are open to the idea of hatchbacks, wagons, SUVs (they aren't all huge), whether they want a manual transmission (some will accept nothing else), 2 door or 4 door if they want a regular car type body, if they think that 4 cylinder engines are inadequate (many are convinced they are all too weak to consider), if they only want to buy new, and how much money they are willing to spend. Do they only want room for cargo, or do they want to be able to sleep in it (some vehicles can allow you to sleep completely flat in them). Do they have kids (do they want 3 rows of seats)... Someone that liked a vibe might like the Honda Fit, which actually is quite sporty and very versatile/roomy, but it is hard to tell without more input. I think the FX45/Murano have absolutely awful visibility to the rear and sides. It is easy to not recognize how important that is until after you buy a car. Reserve - Bigger or smaller than the main??
sundevil777 replied to CaptFrank2001's topic in Gear and Rigging
We really don't have much to help us decide how big a reserve is needed to accomplish this goal of being able to land unconscious and survive. Bigger is better in this regard, and some will say that a WL of 1:1 will be OK, but there is only limited experience on which to make a conclusion. More bad news for Airbus http://www.aero-news.net/index.cfm That website also has an article about an increase in planned 787 production, likely including a 2nd production line (they always plan on room for it in the factory, next to the first line). FedEx Delivers First A380 Cancellation To Airbus Switches To Boeing 777 Freighters Well, we knew it was coming... but it's from a somewhat unexpected source. On Tuesday, international parcel carrier FedEx announced it is cancelling its orders for 10 freighter variants of the oft-delayed Airbus A380. That's the first cancellation after Airbus announced in September deliveries of the mammoth airliner would be delayed an additional 11 months. FedEx also announced it has ordered 15 Boeing 777-200 Freighters, with options for 15 more, to replace the A380-800Fs. "Global demand for air cargo and express services continues to grow rapidly and FedEx has made significant investments in our network to meet customers’ needs and fulfill our business objectives. Therefore, it was necessary and prudent for us to acquire the Boeing 777 Freighter," said Frederick W. Smith, chairman, president and chief executive officer, FedEx Corp. "The availability and delivery timing of this aircraft, coupled with its attractive payload range and economics, make this choice the best decision for FedEx, its customers, shareowners and employees." As Aero-News reported, FedEx ordered 10 A380Fs, with options for 10 more, at the 2002 Farnborough Air Show. Airbus spokesperson Barbara Kracht said the company regrets FedEx's decision, "but we understand their need to urgently address their capacity growth." FedEx Express continues to be Airbus' largest widebody airplane customer, and will add additional new and used Airbus widebody aircraft to its fleet in coming years. Six new A300-600 aircraft are scheduled to join the FedEx fleet in 2007. The cancellation of FedEx's orders puts the entire A380 Freighter program in a questionable position -- as there remains only two other customers for the cargo-hauling variant of the superjumbo. FedEx competitor United Parcel Service (UPS) has 10 aircraft on order, while International Finance and Leasing Corp (ILFC) has orders for five of the cargo planes on the books. UPS is rumored to also be considering abandoning the A380F program; if that happens, it's likely the entire A380F program would collapse. While that would undoubtably be a significant blow to an already troubled program, it would also allow Airbus to deliver passenger-carrying A380s to expectant airline customers that much sooner -- as those planes would fill delivery slots originally slated for A380Fs. Boeing 777 The Boeing 777 Freighter is the world’s largest twin-engine cargo aircraft, with a range of more than 6,100 nautical miles and a revenue payload capacity of 171,000 pounds. This represents a 2,200 nautical mile increase in range and an additional 8,500 pounds of revenue payload over the MD-11F, which is FedEx’s primary long-haul aircraft. These advantages will result in more non-stop, point-to-point transoceanic routes with shorter flight times, enabling improved service offerings to FedEx customers. FedEx Express is expected to take delivery of four of the 777 aircraft in calendar year 2009, eight in 2010 and the remaining three in 2011. "The Boeing 777F will allow FedEx Express to fly directly between major markets and hubs in Asia, Europe and the U.S. with more freight and in less time than it takes today, improving fuel efficiency and lowering total operating costs," said David J. Bronczek, president and chief executive officer, FedEx Express. The first Boeing 777-200 Freighter is slated to for delivery to Air France Cargo (above) in 2008. Another hypocritical Republican crook resigns
sundevil777 replied to kallend's topic in Speakers Corner
It was hard for the drive-by media to ignore it, but they did try to both ignore it and minimize the importance of it: (From Fox's Special Report with Brit Hume, 11/1) Not Headline News? The John Kerry flap may have been the major political story yesterday, but you might not have known that from the newspaper coverage. Not a single front-page headline in The New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal or USA Today. The Times cast it as a chance for the President to attack Kerry. Not until the 15th paragraph, on page 18, does a reader learn what Kerry actually said. The Washington Post put the whole story on page 8. Both the Los Angeles Times and The Wall Street Journal put the Kerry flap on a par with the incident in which some of Virginia GOP Senator George Allen's supporters roughed up a heckler after an Allen event. And on ABC News, the Kerry flap was described as "an object lesson in how in this day and age an idle political remark gets seized upon." Meanwhile the non-partisan Center for Media and Public Affairs has analyzed stories about the elections during the seven weeks since Labor Day on the evening newscasts of the three broadcast networks. It reports 77 percent of on-air evaluations of Democratic candidates and members of Congress were positive — and 88 percent of the references to Republicans were negative. The study says there were 167 election stories during that time — compared to just 35 during the same period in 2002. And the ABC News Political Director Mark Halperin says well over 70 percent of the people working on his network's political coverage are liberal, and would vote Democratic. Halperin tells radio host Hugh Hewitt that the preponderance of liberal thought in media organizations is an endemic problem. And he says it is why, "for 40 years conservatives have rightly felt that we did not give them a fair shake."
