  1. 16 is the age of consent in many countries. However, both libs and conservatives seem to agree that it is unacceptable in Foley's case. I agree with that judgement. Shouldn't the same conclusion be applied to depictions of pedophilia on stage/movies? People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
  2. If they remain convinced that it is a good rule, let's just modify it slightly so that the previous group must be at the 45 deg criteria for at least 5 seconds! Still no comment from you about my assertions contained in this thread. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
  3. It would be better for others to deal with it... But they aren't. It does not appear they will. I was so tempted to make an analogy to late 1930's Europe, but I resisted, kinda. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
  4. Hey now, there are some facts that are without question, one of those is that your analogies suck! Seriously, I think analogies are better limited to subjects that are hard to understand, like string theory! People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
  5. Of course we should learn from our experiences. How would you say that learning should reflect itself to actions taken to help the Darfur situation? People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
  6. Do you know how many posts you have made criticising analogies as "lousy", "crappy", etc.? A lot of times, for sure. Of course I know that! I did recently comment that a particular analogy was a good one. I think the value of analogies is vastly overrated. Care to make a post to this thread that is on subject? People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
  7. That is a really lousy analogy. I would prefer that kind of argument not be used in defense of my posts. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
  8. I defy you to show how I have tried to cast blame elsewhere. Hypocrisy from the left is exactly the point of my observations. I understand how that makes libs uncomfortable. If so many had not been so quick to call for Hastert's resignation, etc., then I would not have posted so much. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
  9. Sorry, I guess it is not so hard to believe that they were able to do an underground test without any leaking of radiation above ground, for now. I sure hope the geology of their site is as good for such awful purposes as the Nevada site is. They certainly don't have as big a country to find such an appropriate site. Leaking may also be a longer term problem, for ground water, etc. I suppose that also applies to other countries that have tested underground (Pakistan, etc.), they have to choose the best site within their small boundaries. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
  10. Underground testing of nuclear weapons was common. Many tests have been done in Nevada by Lawrence Livermore Laboratories, associated with the University of Berkley. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
  11. Some things really push my buttons, so to speak. The democratic/congressional leadership response to this scandal has been unreasonable, I doth think. So, what conclusion do you reach from my 67 posts so far on this subject? You too doth protest quite a bit, but many times you doth protest without a meaningful contribution to the thread except to change the subject and question motives of a poster. Care to provide a reply, on subject this time? People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
  12. Now reported as a magnitude 3.6 tremor. It would be nice to believe that it could be due to just the blast that sets off the nuc part of the bomb (hoping the nuclear part may have not worked), but that is really wishful thinking. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
  13. That sure is a lot of changing the subject. There are plenty of reasons to criticise republicans performance in office, but the big news story lately has been on this particular one. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
  14. Airtek has made some official coments about how some electronic components will naturally and predictably degrade in performance and reliability over time. They say their testing at 4, 8, and at 12 years (returned units) confirms that their position is appropriate. This would probably be less important if you didn't care about the unit functioning correctly when exposed to environmental extremes (temp/vibration). People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
  15. Not in defense of Foley or his actions. I think it is quite interesting and useful to compare the general attitudes and actions exhibited by libs and conservatives. Foley is a hypocrite and a bunch of other bad things. , no argument needed there. That is correct, the dems are the party of lower expectations. Republicans don't claim it as their own special province. They do claim to care more about it, and even if some of their members fail to meet the standard, I think they have shown to indeed, care more about it. Kallend, do you care to make a comment relevant to this thread, about the play and how it is popular among many libs? Can anyone find something similar that is popular among conservatives? People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
  16. Because it doesn't matter. In the context of "family values", neither does a few months one way or the other on the pages' ages. Quite right! For conservatives, it doesn't matter. That is not true for liberals, well at least before Mark Foley. Now they are going to have to care at least a little bit more about future, similar cases within their own ranks. The party of low expectations demonstrated exactly. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
  17. It would seem that the moral outrage liberals have exhibited doesn't always carry over to pedophilia as depicted on stage. The Vagina Monologues, for example, has a bit called The Little Coochie Snorcher That Could, in which a woman recalls memories of traumatic sexual experiences in her childhood and a self-described "positive healing" sexual experience in her adolescent years with an older woman. In the original version, she is 13, but later versions would change her age to 16. This particular skit has sparked numerous controversies and criticisms due to its content. So, just 13 was too young, but 16 is considered OK? Many, including feminists have been critical of the play, but it is still quite popular on college campuses and elsewhere. Melissa Etheridge and Whoopi Goldberg, for instance, have performed segments of the play. Why no general outrage from Liberals? Why should we believe the sincerity of outrage directed toward Foley? You can say that it is outrageous that Foley was such a hypocrite, that is well deserved, but I think this shows exactly why the term 'selective moral outrage' is so appropriate to describe the reaction from liberals. Perhaps there are some other examples of how pedophilia has been portrayed positively, or acceptable/neutral by Hollywood/Broadway, etc. I'll bet conservatives are more critical of them than liberals. Selective moral outrage. It means that libs are much more interested in knocking off their political opponents than they actually care about pedophilia. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
  18. It was reported that Foley first approached him when he was underage. Face it, Foley is a sick bastard and I hope they hang the creep. It was not mentioned in the radio reports what happened while he was underage. Using the term 'approached' is meaningless without more detail. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
  19. Because it doesn't matter. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
  20. At least a couple of broadcast radio news stations here cared enough to make it their headline story. They just failed to mention the guy being 21. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
  21. Some guy that was a congressional page (he is remaining anonymous) is now saying that Foley had sex with him when he was 21. I heard of this new story a couple times on the radio on different stations, then finally I heard a talk show that highlighted the fact that the guy was 21. Why is this an example of a misdeed. He was no longer in the program, and was 21. I hope the liberals keep making asses of themselves. Whether the conservatives will be effective at showing their ass-holeness is yet to be seen. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
  22. Two answers exist because a negative number squared is the same as if it were positive. Following the steps of the "Deriving the Quadratic Formula" link toward the bottom of the page on the link should help. Is there a certain part of the derivation that gives you trouble. You mentioned the 'completing the square', that is intentionally manipulating the expression so that you can easily take the square root. All of it depends on the expression fitting a certain form Ax^2 + Bx + C = 0. I like the way that the derivation shown uses an example with numbers for the Constants A,B,C, and then does it with the constants left in. I hope that helps. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
  23. Between Christian sects, I think there is nothing to back up your broad, sweeping assertion. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
  24. It can be reasonable said that the UN should do something about it, but certainly others can do something about it. Why should US troops stay out? 25. ...and the guy killed will be included in statistics of those killed by guns, used to try and convince us of the need for stricter gun control laws.
