  1. Obviously, Bush has concluded that he didn't want to claim the hundreds of old shells, etc as worthy of even mentioning. I'm not a politician, so I think they are worth mentioning. Someone in a previous described being present when some of these were found, he thought they were worth mentioning too. My memory is that even Blix thought there would be more found. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
  2. I reject your assertion of dishonesty. The purpose of the sanctions was not to put WMD programs on hold for as long as close scrutiny is enforced by inspectors. The purpose was to ensure that Iraq would not restart them when the Hans Blix left. Hans Blix was not satisfied with Iraqi compliance, was he? I understand he didn't support invasion as a response, but SH completely refused to comply with the cease agreement in many ways. The sanctions were only accomplishing a very short term objective. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
  3. I won't speak to any specific threads or comments, but overall I'd say if someone called another poster a homophobe, it might be as a slightly more specific and polite alternative to calling them a bigot. I suspect most people who argue against gay marriage (how exactly did we get on this topic??) would object to being called either one, but then again how many bigots like that word? It doesn't have to be a member in this forum that gets labeled a 'phobe/bigot, the label is also applied to those outside of this website. How did we get on this topic? What, you've never encountered thread drift before? . You seem to imply that not supporting gay marriage would make a person deserving of the bigot label, is that correct? If yes, then you're calling me a bigot - doing it indirectly, but doing it still. In previous threads I've explained why I think this position is not reasonable. We can go over that again, but that would be more thread drift. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. 4. It would depend on where the bottom/base of the cloud was. If you're going to fall out of it in a few seconds, then I would proceed as if it wasn't even there. If it was a lot thicker, I might be tempted to get out quickly and keep the tandem in sight the entire time, maybe track back towards them but well off the the side (off jump run direction). This gives a chance to do an aggressive track and flare out, which is fun. This assumes that I was planning a solo jump. I am very confident in my ability to follow tandems without being dangerous, and I would probably still never get within about 200 feet of them horizontally, and slightly above so they couldn't see me to be distracted by my presence. After the jump, I'd let the TI know what happened and that I wasn't being totally reckless. I like jumping through and near clouds. Of course I wouldn't like to hit something while doing it, but...it is a lot of fun. 5. Apparently not as tired of it as I am. OK then, no need to reply to threads such as this. No need to aggravate yourself. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
  6. I'm not a conservativephobe. What I am is a hypocritophobe. I'm an idiotophobe. I'm a bigotophobe. Why has this conversation turned to my personality? I would also like to stake a claim to the 'phobias that you mention. However, my memory of previous threads is that those that don't support gay marriage, for example, are labeled homophobes - thereby "turning the converstaion to their personality". I stand by my assertion that to use it based on a person's position on this issue is very wrong and intentionally misleading in order to cause an emotional reaction against the 'phobe. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
  7. Since I don't live in those places, and since I believe the news that filters down to me is horribly twisted by people with axes to grind, I believe that I know next to nothing about the arab world. However, it's entirely possible you're right. If so, that really sucks for them. Why again did you bring up this non-sequitur? It appears to me that not only do you know next to nothing about how the Arab world treats homosexuals, but that you don't want to know. Geez, you'd think that this was the first thread where the scope of the issue was expanded to make an interesting point. At first I doubted that the guy singing the song was serious. I now realize that he was. I suppose that was my fault for not wanting to believe it was for real. So, I acknowledge the hate that parts of the Christian community can throw your way. I thought it worthy of discussion to bring up what appears to be violent/lethal persecution that is officially condoned by governments. Perhaps you're right, it is just misinformation from people with an axe to grind. I thought it would be more important to you than to just say, "it sucks for them." I would think that you would want to know whether the news is indeed, "horribly twisted", or if it is true. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
  8. Geez, cut the guy a break, eh! He didn't have the same instructor as you. Some instructors would say that you were given too much information, that the FJC should only focus on the essentials, what they will need to know for the first jump and be able to remember - which isn't much for most students. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
  9. In the US (and those other minor little places like Canada, Europe, Central America, Australia, etc...) christians are 99% of the homophobia problem and muslims are the remainder. Does that answer your question why islam isn't "attacked" in the western world as much as christianity? Did I really let you goad me into using the word "attacked"??? *sigh*... You have left out certain parts of the world, such as the Arab world. I guess the homosexuals of the Arab world cannot look to the advocacy groups of the free world for any support. Perhaps you think the Arab world is "minor" as you say, not deserving of any concern. Do you at least acknowledge that they are routinely killed there, with full knowledge of the authorities? I would think that is much more important than marriage rights. Also, I'd still like to hear your thoughts on why I shouldn't consider you to be a conservativephobe. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
  10. Why should we go back and rehash the details of this crap again? Basically each point made in the original post is simply a repost of a pro-war argument. It just seems that someone thinks that if you tidy them up into a top ten list that people are somehow supposed to think that they're all accurate and present a valid case for war. Call it "Rose Colored Revisionism" if you will. Even this reply to MH's post is more substantial than the name calling that has filled other replies. Don't you think we get tired of having to "go back and rehash the details..." when crap gets posted that we think is wrong? I suppose that since you know that you are correct and others are wrong, that makes it different, eh? People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
  11. What a bunch of bullshit! MH is absolutely right about the WMDs found there. It doesn't rise anywhere near to what was expected, but to say it was nothing is bullshit. Al Qaeda is not stronger than before. When presented with intelligence (internal AQ communication) that supports that they are hurting very badly, you said that it was probably a plant, and that it isn't worth the bother of following up (I'm paraphrasing, of course, from a much earlier thread). That certainly is having it both ways, isn't it? There has been more internal AQ communication to support that conclusion recently, but it sure is easy to dismiss it as planted evidence to throw us off, that is if you don't want to believe it. We certainly have won the war. We didn't wait to see if Japan and Germany would be peaceful, without insurgency, before declaring victory in Europe of Japan, did we? S. Vietnam was winning (mostly on their own) when we decided to stop helping them. Even when they weren't so much on their own, we hobbled ourselves with stupid rules of engagement and such. We have learned the lesson to not do that again. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
  12. I say tough shit for Saddam. I think that one of the benefit of winning a war so decisively as we did, is that we can impose new conditions as needed. I think Bush-41 should have had the balls to let our planes shoot down the helicopters that were killing so many after the cease fire, but it wasn't part of the agreement, so he hesitated. That was wrong. To MH: Thank you for posting this. Seems to be a definite lack of criticism that has any substance to it, instead there is just a lot of appealing to emotions. 13. When someone mentions gay rights how loudly do those muslims shout "No"? I'll tell you one thing, that tiny number of Christians shouts pretty fuckin' loudly. In some places where Muslims are in control (Islamic republics) they don't bother arguing about the politics of it, they just imprison/kill them. Muslims in this country know they aren't so popular with mainstream America, so they keep their opinion to themselves, for now. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
  14. That sounds like it is a reasonable position, but the actual questions they use to determine homophobia were crap, in my opinion. 15. I know what a phobia is because I have one. If I see or imagine certain images involving blood, drawing blood, etc. I get cold/clammy/faint very quickly. It is weird because sometimes I've been able to watch real heart surgery on TV with no problem, but the only time I tried to donate blood I nearly passed out while lying down. Funny thing, that fear is called hemophobia. I think the definition of words is important. So did Bill Clinton. What do you think is (or should be/or what is now) the definition of homophobia? I think that the 'current common usage' is worth complaining about because the average person won't support the positions of a person/group that has an irrational fear of homosexuals. A person with such an irrational fear is worthy of ridicule/scorn/etc. Anyone that doesn't agree with what gay rights group advocates want is labeled a 'phobe. I think that is clearly wrong. I've done nothing of the sort. Just bringing to light the intentional misuse of a word to get an intended response. Can't the issue be discussed without the misuse of the suffix 'phobe? Clearly, there are those who call themselves Christians that hate homosexuals. I assert that number is tiny compared to those that call themselves Muslims that hate homosexuals. Is that religion attacked by gay rights advocates? A person that doesn't support what gay rights advocates want is no more a homophobe than you are a conservativephobe. There are many people that hate conservatives, but don't have an irrational fear of them - I would think that some application of the suffix "-ist" would be appropriate. 16. One of the problems with the latent homosexuality study was the way they determine homophobia. The index of homophobia test that was used by the researchers has a bunch of questions having nothing to do with whether a person has an irrational fear of them. Crappy test, worthless result. 17. Here's another example of extreme floaters, there is a rope ladder hanging down from the door, and a rope going from the door back quite a ways toward the tail. I think there are at least 28: People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. 18. Thank you very much. Looks like I can get it for $20, much more reasonable. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
  19. Please confirm that I can't just do an ordinary copy of the system program file folder(s)? I mean is it true that they wouldn't be usable as a 'restore' backup? Somehow backup software gets around this, right? Thanks! People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. 20. By other "ways to do it", do you mean other software packages? The Acronis software will make a "true image" of the operating system and program files, right? I guess I'm just wondering if the operating system programs have ways to prevent pirating that also prevent an easy recovery as I describe. 21. I now have 2 internal drives, primary is 80GB, secondary is 160. I've already manually backed up my various documents, pictures and such. What I'd really like to be able to do is make a copy of the operating system and other program files of my hard drive, so that if the primary fails, I can easily reinstall everything to a new primary drive. Phreezone told me of his system that operates two drives simultaneously, so that both drives are always identical, and if a failure is detected on one drive, the other automatically takes over. I think it involved some additional hardware. It sounds expensive, which unfortunately is bad for me. From my look at available software, it seems like I have to spend about $50, and I'm still not sure if it would do what I want (provide an easy recovery method for the system, not just the documents). Is what I want reasonable? Does it make sense? Any recommendations would be much appreciated. I've had 2 hard drives fail in the last 3 years, and I'd like the recovery to be easier next time. Thanks in advance. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. 23. I did it many times when I was young and stupid, with the rig fully exposed, no extra safeguards. It was stupid, wouldn't do it again. There are plenty of large gear bags that can be worn as a backpack for this purpose with relative safety. 24. Oh, I see, thanks for the clarification/details. How could I possibly disagree? Clinton was the best at the "politics of personal destruction" - a phrase he made popular, despite the fact that he was the one doing so much of it. Heck, you didn't even have to be a political adversary, as in the travel office scandal for which Hillary deserves so much credit. 25. Of course the VP lives there. Perhaps it was a bit of humor, since Armitage was the 'leaker' of the information . . . Again, just the messenger . . . I'd consider heading the conspiracy to be an act of treason. What exactly about the supposed conspiracy was so bad that you consider it treason? ... the leak that wasn't even an illegal act - the information that already was common knowledge among many journalists.
