  1. From above: "and with no pin on the end". Wouldn't a flexible supple line, instead of a stiff pin, seems like it would be less likely to be pushed out when it is pressed against an airplane bulkhead? Right, I was reading that to mean no swage ball/pin at the handle end. Of course everyone would like to know how the mechanism works. A line would have to be as stiff as a pin to function as a replacement with the rest of the existing system. 2. I don't see how that would change, if there is still a handle at one end, and a pin at the other. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
  3. We are not anywhere close to that point, never will be, not worth discussing. You have presented a false choice. There are many more possible outcomes than you describe. I do think it wise to use the 'weapon' of a boycott of their oil. If effective, then those countries might no longer be adversaries. Even if it is not effective at changing their politics, it will make them weaker, and put us in the lead on important new technologies. That implies that we would be better to purposefully buy as much imported oil as possible, saving our supply for later. Another false choice. Even if you are the "last man standing", you wouldn't be standing for long, and the rest of the world would be in bad shape. I think it much more important to avoid such a scenario, leading the rest of the world to new energy technologies. 5. So, it won't be as "easily drillable". Doesn't mean it isn't there. Certainly the price will be affected. Enough to last centuries is a stretch, though. If restrictions on drilling in those areas currently not allowed are lifted, then there is a lot more to be had. Alaska, the Rocky Mountains and offshore have all been off limits. Then there are the oil sands/shale in Canada, and much of the oil in Siberia hasn't been tapped. Coal can be converted to oil, and there is a huge amount of that. Seems like nobody is willing to recognize that indeed there is a lot of fossil fuel still to be had. Personally, I think we should be willing to suffer the higher prices that would go along with a policy of not buying oil from many Arab countries and Venezuela. It might be a more effective weapon than our military or diplomats can wield. Along with the higher prices, we would benefit from the surge of alternative energy source research that would result. 6. Quite right. The answer is yes, it is easy to do it. Now there is no reason for A-train to visit this site. 8. No. It's a Beaver. Its been 15 years since I've seen one, but I don't think that is a beaver. Maybe a single otter. 9. Another really crappy analogy. If a plagiarized term paper (written off campus) is turned in to a class (on campus), then of course it doesn't matter where it was written. If some students have a party off campus and make a film that insults some group, that is totally different, unless they show the film on campus. THAT depends on the school's Code of Conduct, not on your opinion. By matriculating, students accept that they are bound by the school's Code of Conduct. If they don't like the Code of Conduct they are free to go elsewhere to study. No-one was ever forced to attend Clemson against their will. Colleges associated with churches have remarkably strict codes of conduct (mandating "morality") that apply on and off campus. Do you find that objectionable? I completely agree with you on the school's right to enforce its code of conduct, even for conduct off campus. But really, I think it is not the conduct that mattered, it is that it embarrassed the school. 13. I don't know about their utility for wingsuits (perhaps the wingsuit fits better given how the suit must fit around the container), but cut in lats should keep the bottom of the rig in place (laterally) better. Some people have reported discomfort from the cut in lats after opening. I've never heard of the term "floating" lats. Standard construction (not cut-in) just go to the side of the container, instead of hooking up slightly inboard of the outer edge as the cut in styles do. I think most if not all mfgs now offer cut in lats, even if their order forms don't show it as an option. 14. Among the various Boeing/Douglas/Lockheed/Airbus airliners, only the 727 and the DC-9 and its later variants have such a hatch at the rear - bottom. The 727 could be opened in flight until D.B. Cooper's escapade, now there are interlocks to prevent anyone from being able to open it in flight. The 727 opening was for the purpose of providing stairs for passengers to board, the DC-9 opening was only for emergency escape purposes, and first involves releasing the tail cone structure. Perris' plane of course flies without the tail cone. I don't know measures were also taken to prevent a DC-9 door from being operated post-D.B Cooper. Your statement seems to be contradicted by this attachment. (page 4) http://www.boeing.com/commercial/airports/arff/arff767.pdf Note the "equipment access door" just behind the front landing gear door. Correct me if I'm wrong. I had forgotten that some have such doors. My memory is a little fuzzy on these doors, but I think they are pretty darn small. I can't remember the size of the door in the floor of the cabin either. 15. YET...... the RIGHTWINGNUTS have used the resolutions that Saadam did not comply with as an excuse to go to a preemptive war. That is called HYPOCRISY....or SMARMY if you will You cant have it both ways... That is a lousy analogy. I disagree with the validity of your comparison. The resolutions were sponsored/written by the US, if the language didn't meet our desires, we could have withdrawn the resolutions completely - the UN would never have passed them. A resolution is not a program run by a beaurocracy with staff, budgets, etc. A resolution is a policy statement, if it is "corrupt", then it is out there in words for all to see. The corruption of the oil for food and other programs/agencies of the UN is not as easy to identify. Big difference. 16. Saddam was forced to agree to OUR terms, there was no negotiating. Of course Saddam never recognized the no fly zones. I acknowledge they came after the cease fire, and I say tough shit to Saddam, he lost the war, and was continuing to do bad things. If the US loses a war to Iran as badly as Saddam lost in '91, then we would indeed be subject to them changing the terms at their discretion. Is there some doubt that an unconditional surrender means exactly that? Saddam did not comply with the terms of the cease fire, so he was deserving of military attack based solely on that. 18. He has some incredible insight into the Clinton years. Not many people were closer to them both during much of their reign. Maybe some people haven't hear much of him, here are some of his articles: http://thehill.com/thehill/opencms/TheHill/Comment/DickMorris/ He also has been a regular on many Fox News shows. 20. Blix could not even confirm that the sanctions were keeping the programs on hold. So, I think they were working in only the most superficial sense. 22. She could still give the actual drag force instead of just the efficiency. Efficiency means nothing by itself. Also, I wonder how they define "efficiency". 23. Blix was not satisfied with Iraqi compliance. I think that that the sanctions were "workiing" is only the most superficial and temporary sense, not accomplishing the overall goal. So, I say that your position is dishonest. The sanctions were not workiing in a sustainable way, and that is important. I could make a clever analogy to reinforce my claim, but I try to avoid them. 25. When herds of Bush haters spew rhetoric about how he is worse than Saddam, then I think it is appropriate to compare the degree of torture, for instance. Your mention of the 'taxes not as bad as Sweden's' comparison is funny, that is almost exactly what I've heard socialist leaning libs say for many years to support their desire for higher taxes. I gotta give you credit for bringing up a socialist talking point, sometimes you are fair and balanced.
