Why should Israel give back territory from the 67 war?
sundevil777 replied to sundevil777's topic in Speakers Corner
Pakistan isn't even one of Israel's adversaries in the region, and what they 'might' cede isn't being ceded to Israel. Of course the choice of whether Israel gives up territory won in the war is their choice, you didn't need to remind us of that. What I asked is why do you think they should/should not. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am -
Why should Israel give back territory from the 67 war?
sundevil777 replied to sundevil777's topic in Speakers Corner
If they want pre-47 borders, then they basically want to revoke the results of WWII. Why should that be expected. So many other national boundaries were redrawn, the Arab nations tried repeatedly to destroy Israel, but have always lost, why should they get what they would have won in a war without a real change of heart in their attitude? Why should Israel give back territory from the 67 war?
sundevil777 replied to sundevil777's topic in Speakers Corner
Do you think Arab nations would ever surrender anything they might have won in any of the wars they fought and lost with Israel? Israel did strike the first blow in that six day war on June 5, but the Arab states had set the stage. In May, Nasser believing they were militarily superior repeatedly announced his intention to exterminate the "Zionist Entity", closed the Strait of Tiran to Israeli/Israel bound ships, and declared, "Our basic objective will be the destruction of Israel." Iraq's president said, "Our goal is clear - to wipe Israel off the map." After his artillery was firing on Jerusalem, and Tel Aviv, Jordanian King Hussein on Radio Amman said to, "kill the Jews wherever they could be found, with one's hands, one's nails, anything." Israel definitely should not give back land to those that have no intention of actually pursuing peace. I think that is obvious case for their adversaries now. The settlement with Egypt's Sadat shows that Israel is quite willing to trade land for peace when there is a true change of heart with prior adversaries. I do not see a real partner for peace with the current leaders of the other Arab nations. The Arab nations always expect that Israel should withdraw to pre-67 borders, but why should that be expected? Perhaps a refund from the Cinci Bible College is in order. What was the Messiah supposed to accomplish? The Bible says that he will: A. Build the Third Temple (Ezekiel 37:26-28). B. Gather all Jews back to the Land of Israel (Isaiah 43:5-6). C. Usher in an era of world peace, and end all hatred, oppression, suffering and disease. As it says: "Nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall man learn war anymore." (Isaiah 2:4) D. Spread universal knowledge of the God of Israel, which will unite humanity as one. As it says: "God will be King over all the world—on that day, God will be One and His Name will be One" (Zechariah 14:9). The historical fact is that Jesus fulfilled none of these messianic prophecies. Christians counter that Jesus will fulfill these in the Second Coming, but Jewish sources show that the Messiah will fulfill the prophecies outright, and no concept of a second coming exists. I think it probably is better to teach students to use both hands to pull each handle, even though I also think a transition to one hand on each handle is better later. The only time I pulled a pad type handle was my first chop with a 3 ring system. It was instinctive to peel the pad off the velcro first because I had practiced that so many times. The next time I used my loop type cutaway handle, peeling that isn't even an issue because it is so easy to pull it off the velcro by the nature of it. Of course getting a really good grip on a pad is possible, but I think much less likely to happen in a real world very stressful situation. When it comes to the desire to be able to grab and pull something really hard really quickly - I want to be able to use that opposable thumb on both handles. That sucks. I had no problems during my trip to and from Georgia. But I did have a mom & daughter come up to me in the gate and ask me about my rig. And then the ticket taker *stopped* the line to make a rather loud comment along the lines of "Whoa! Looks like YOU'RE ready for a bumpy ride! Is that a PARACHUTE?? Wow, COOL!" I'll be putting that thing in a gear bag next time. That's exactly the kind of attention we don't want if we want to preserve our ability to carry on rigs. Some will think it is cool, while others might express their fear to security. Put it in a gear bag and the nervous nellies don't have a reason to be nervous. That is a really crappy analogy! Are you suggesting there is no significant difference once marriage across species is the issue? Also, there are people that would like to have polygamist rights, is there a group seeking inter-species marriage rights? Really crappy attempt at deflection. It implies that no examination of future consequences/precedent should be considered? The typical arguments apply to both, such as what goes on behind closed doors...it doesn't affect anyone else's marriage... OK, and those arguments apply to "regular" heterosexual marriages too. My marriage doesn't affect anyone else's marriage, and what goes on behind our closed doors is no one else's business. If polygamists want to use those arguments to sue for marriage rights, then they can, regardless of whether same-sex marriage is legal. Yes, polygamists can use these arguments to support their cause, but they know that there is no chance of them getting laws changed, the general public isn't even close to supporting their right to marry more than one. However, same sex marriage advocates are close, and have in some places succeeded. After that, they can ride on the precedent. In the quest to remove the discrimination against some, I say we should not exclude the others. You really think polygamists wouldn't sue for their right to marry? Really? The groups that do it in secret have significant resources to pursue a legal fight for that right. Quite right! That victimization is usually in the form of underage marriage. That is an argument to limit the ability of minors to marry even if they have parental consent, not necessarily relevant to this discussion. Quite right! Of course some will say that they would be OK with that. I doubt it in actual practice, for instance if you had a good friend (male) that revealed to you that his SO was his sister, I think most would have a very difficult time with that, even if they couldn't conceive. Some will say that the 'slippery slope' argument is not worthy of discussion, but they will bring up such slippery slopes when debating other issues. Soooooo.... if the law defined marriage as a being between any two individuals, regardless of gender, but specifically excluded polygamy, incest, bestiality, etc.... you'd be okay with that? Not that I think this is realistic or relevant, but I'm curious. I think you've misread my position, which isn't surprising as you might have assumed I'm bigoted by the thorny, inconvenient issues I raise in regard to this issue. In fact I am OK with same sex marriage, but think any redefinition of marriage will inevitably allow polygamy and incest (I'm OK with that also, for adults). Same sex marriage advocates know this, but don't want to admit it because they know it damages their effort to get same sex marriage. I'm pretty sure I don't bring up slippery slopes when debating any issues. It's a stupid and useless argument technique that only prevents people from focusing on the actual issue at hand. (And if I do ever go off on the slippery slope thing, I hope that someone will point out my mistake to me, because it probably means that I am being irrational without realizing it. That does happen sometimes. ) If the slippery slope is applicable, if it really is likely that one thing will lead to another, then I think it absolutely appropriate to consider the longer-term consequences. I think it absolutely certain that polygamists will seek marriage rights if same sex marriage is allowed across the country, and I think there will be no basis to deny it. I am OK with that, but same sex marriage advocates know that the general public isn't OK with it, so they want to deflect any effort to associate the issues because it hurts their cause. You've obviously done some quick research. Care to show it to us? I think he's referring to this quote she made in a speech at a University:"I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experience would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn’t lived that life.” I don't think so, he is probably referring to what he heard lush rimjob say, apparently he called her a racist and if he said it it must be true. Nope, you are completely wrong. I haven't heard what Rush has to say about her yet. I did hear and see extended excerpts of her. If a white conservative had made similar statements, there would be complete outrage. But of course her brand of racism is considered acceptable by many. She also admitted that judges make policy, and admitted that she doesn't really want to admit it/shouldn't admit it! A very revealing admission, she did in fact know better, but she was likely in the company of like-minded liberals, and her guard was down, revealing her true nature. She is a racist. Those that defend that flavor of racism should have the guts to admit it. I think it likely that some of you reading this do in fact support it. Your position on such matters doesn't influence many others. For Obama to take such an approach is quite different. Why shouldn't the Joe six-back voter that doesn't feel strongly about it take a cue from the president - if he thinks marriage is between a man and a woman, then so do I. Obama is spineless, and deserves severe criticism for it. For some reason...liberals, even gay liberals don't do so much of that, I wonder why? Besides, if it is OK to be a bigot toward polygamists (there is no peer pressure to support their ability to have plural marriages), then why should anyone care if same sex marriage is not allowed? Obama made it absolutely clear that he thinks marriage is between a man and a woman". I think that is the exact quote, very close at least. Some will say that because he doesn't oppose states doing it on their own that he is on the right side of the issue. I say that he is nothing but a typical politician, unwilling to take a principled stand because so many do not agree with him. For that, he should be severely criticized for in effect, giving many the 'cover' to oppose same sex marriage. Seems pretty clear to me. Besides being a judicial activist, she is a racist. Of course I realize that racism by those that are not Caucasian is allowed without serious objection nowadays, but it is what it is. I certainly don't want a racist that wants to be a super-legislator/"making policy" from the highest court. It is bad enough that Bush 41 nominated her to the lower court. Gay rights advocates know that the same arguments used in favor of same sex marriage also apply to polygamy. Gay rights advocates will do all they can to try to separate the issues, they will say they personally don't care if polygamy is legalized, but their cause should be considered separately - not to be considered establishing a precedent. However, gay rights advocates also know that the general public is not even close to voting in favor of polygamy. So, it is OK to be against polygamy, you won't even be considered a bigot or a -phobe, but you can't be against same sex marriage without that label being applied. If it is OK under the law to deny the 'rights' of polygamists, then it should be OK to do it for same sex marriages. I say if Obama and Hillary can hold their position without the bigot/phobe label, then anyone else holding that position should also be able to do so without the attack. No, but how is it that the President (and Hillary), a result of a mixed race marriage, can very clearly be against a change in the definition of marriage, but not be labeled a bigot/homophobe? He was absolutely clear about it during the debates, no doubt about his opinion, he didn't waffle or qualify his answer at all. When conservatives take the same position, they are assumed to be bigots/homophobes, why is that? Do you agree that the pres and Hillary are bigots/homophobes? For some reason, the pres, and blacks as a voting block, are very definitely against gay marriage, why is it they can't see your lousy analogy to mixed race marriage? Are blacks as a voting block also bigots/homophobes? People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I didn't understand the start of an episode from a couple weeks ago. They had been doing a bit of foreshadowing, or whatever it is called, guys in hazmat suits were gathering stuff around the Aztec including a bloody teddy bear I think.
