Is there a shortage of instructors?
hookitt replied to aykay's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Shortage. That depends on location. Also it depends on who is willing to work full time or on an every weekend basis. I work some weekends but not all so if someone wants my job, they'll get it. My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto -
Getting back into skydiving after a break

There are always what ifs and your point can be driven in until people don't want to hear it anymore. $200 or 170 ... That's still steep for someone who can clearly demonstrate Emergency procedures plus can fly well in the tunnel. Do I need to retrain someone that has proven they understand and can demonstrate all the TLOs and emergency procedures? I would have no issue having them sit through emergency procedures review if needed. Regarding the person I jumped with, absolutely no ego was present. Real live concern and fear is more like it. 3 jumps later, the full on exit anxiety was finally diminishing. I was there for support coaching and for the off chance my AFF skills were needed. How about 1 jump and 1000 tunnel hours. The f***er I'm talking about is way better than I am now. Of course he's been practicing like crazy. He now has 10 freefly jumps. My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto

Can any riggers identify this Talon container please?
hookitt replied to humanflite's topic in Gear and Rigging
Talon 2 It's a good rig. My old Talon 2 is still in use at Skydive Sacramento by the owner of the place. If the price is right, get it. Get the full hard housings. They're not that much to replace. Good luck My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto -

I agree with you. Many places won't allow a solo. Many places also WAY over charge for a currency dive. I hope this will not be the case. I took a person out on a currency dive after a 6 year layoff this past weekend. They already had 300 plus jumps and recent tunnel time. The folks at the dropzone where the currency dive was originally planned, wanted a grand total of 170 bucks and the jumper was using self owned equipment. I don't quite understand the justification. All went well. By the way that DZ is not a local (to me) DZ, the jumper was visiting the area from out of state. Bottom line though. Just go jump as councilman24 said! The sheath inside the D-Bag must be long enough to allow an easy compression. If it's hard to cock, the design is poor. I don't like them. After they wear out I make the other kind of bridle to replace it. Stan is absolutely correct. The lanyard can be an inch or several longer inside the bag. Match the length of the kill line to allow full collapse of the pilot chute. Wear on the canopy isn't a concern unless you actually shove material between the lanyard and kill line. Otherwise the extra length just sits on top until the bag comes off. If you use spectra you WANT the added length of the lanyard to compensate for shrinkage of the spectra. Cruiser/chopper style motorcycle foot position

I'm about to rib you a little, I mean nothing by it but it may not read that way. All in good fun with a bit of truth thrown in. :) What is that reason? So people can hear you when you're in front of them? So people can hear you in the morning when you warm up your twin with chromed out straight pipes for 5 or 10 minutes, then rev it like a squid on a gixxer 600? Loud pipes save lives.... There are no facts to back that up, only opinions. When I'm in my car I don't hear a bike until it's passing me. I see them long before that because I ride. Exhaust points out the back (yes I know, that's obvious) so the sound is pointed back as well. It does not travel in all directions equally and people seldom look to see where that noise is if they even hear it at all. My 1000 is pretty loud, my 600 is quiet. While riding my 1000, I've had people right next to me look directly at me then try to take my lane. My 1000 isn't quiet. It's annoying actually. People just don't see you unless you make yourself visible but we all know that black is much cooler looking. I'm putting the stock exhaust back on so cops won't hassle me for loud exhuast. There are 0 performance gains. 150 rear wheel horse power on the dyno with or without the slip on. (Yes I have a power commander). Make yourself visible and/or don't ride where they can cut you off. Ride sensible, and I don't mean obey all speed laws, it means ride sensible for the traffic. Loud sounds are normal, people don't look to see where that noise is coming from until the ass end of the bike is right next to the window. Example: Bicycle riders ride up in the same areas I do sometimes. I can rev the hell out of my engine and they won't realize I'm there until I'm RIGHT there. (sound pointing back and all). A blip to my cheezy horn from way back and they get single file immediately. I've been behind harley riders doing the same thing with the same results. Go ahead and put loud pipes on if you want to and shine them up real nice and revel in the sound of the throaty rumble. Just don't try to tell me you're doing it because "Loud pipes save lives", cuz I know better [;) ----------- Regarding foot position, it's style, not function. Race replica Sport bikes, are function not style, but it's at the opposite end of the spectrum. Gold wings have a great seating position and they handle like a dream. They handle the way a bike should when asked too. Don't believe me? ==>Click this. -
Asymmetry is nearly guaranteed on all pilot chutes due to construction. No reinforcement on the canopy material and only 4 tapes on the mesh. It's not much of a concern. Try this. Collapse it. Look in the bag and see how much line remains or if there is no line showing. Remember that as a reference. While collapsed, hang it by the bridle. Is there canopy material showing or just mesh? How much canopy material is showing? If the line is slightly long, canopy material will show meaning the edge of the pilot chute can inflate. If it inflates the edges of the pilot chute, it will spin up. Some do it more than others and it sounds like you're one of the lucky ones. This is why I asked for the kill line in the bag reference. If there is a few inches of line, you can shorten the kill-line to make the pilot chute collapse more. Make sure the center lines will fully extend when you cock it. Tip: Tie the PC in a knot, it's easier to unspin. My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto
