  1. And that is beauty of this, He doesn't tell them not to have fun, or really not to drink, just the consequences if they do something stupid in a really funny way. It's the Brimfield Ohio Police Department, this was a post to their Facebook page. The Chief often posts humor laden things about policing and police work. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
  2. I didn't claim to write it, that's why I left on the name of the guy who did............... Have you been laid recently? If not, work on it. Geez............... "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
  3. Dear College Partiers, The weekend is here! I am sure you have your costumes ready and you are itching to host or attend the big shindig. We have spoken with our midnight shift and they have advised us that perhaps the “young’uns,” (meaning the freshmen and students who have not been in town long), were not quite accustomed to dealing with the police. I have taken it upon myself to pass along some important info, to assist you in staying out of trouble during your Halloween hijinks….. • If we show up at your party, you get one warning to simmer down. If we come back to your party because you have not simmered down, you will be leaving with us. If others there are violating the law, we will take them also. Heed the warning. • Yes, we know that you know your rights. Yes, we know that you have taken “Intro to Criminal Justice.” I took a biology class once. That does not make me a doctor. Utilize your right to remain silent….and we will thank you. • We are the Brimfield Police. If we respond to your party, it is because you live in Brimfield. You have a Kent mailing address, attend school in Kent…and live in Brimfield. We are not “wearing great costumes” nor are we “the strippers.” • If you cannot drink alcohol without punching each other, setting things on fire, throwing things at the police or ending up getting your stomach pumped….you should not be drinking. Know your limits. • Couple’s costumes are cute. We like telling the story from a few years back, involving Thor lovingly stroking Cinderella’s hair and telling her it would be okay…while she threw up all over our holding cell. That was an awfully romantic moment. • Stay off of roadways. Some areas in Brimfield are not well lighted. One night, while responding to a loud part of 300 or so students, I nearly mowed over all of the Disney princesses. They darted out of the woods like a herd of deer. They were running from the police! The Disney princesses were in a foot pursuit with the police! Shameful. If you are dressed like a princess, act like one. Belle would NEVER be smooching with The Incredible Hulk, in a police holding cell. Captain America would NEVER tell the police to @#$% *$@#!! • No, my officers will not call me because you “follow the chief on Facebook.” You can call me when you post bond and you are sober. Good luck with that conversation. Overall, we just encourage you to use common sense, be safe and yes…have fun. Ladies, be careful of your alcohol intake and those around you. We see lots of victims who cannot defend themselves in these situations. Men, be gentlemen and do not try to smooch those who are passed out or too intoxicated to make a sound decision. For heaven's sake....Do not try to smooch anything that is located behind an electric fence and has four legs. If you use common sense, you should have a fun evening. If you don’t, you will be arrested, without fail. Carry on…Chief Oliver. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
  4. Whoever it was, did an excellent job. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
  5. An active shooter is chaos by definition, it is the ability to control it that matters. LE has changed tactics dramatically since Columbine, this is perfect example of the change. "Isolate and contain" no longer is viable for active shooter scenarios. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
  6. To all the police critics and keyboard warriors; Watch as the shots are fired, each one of the officers runs TOWARD the sound of the gunfire. These are the tactics many call the "militarization of the police". They seek out the active shooter and neutralize the threat. Great job by our brothers and sisters in Canada. http://www.funker530.com/video-of-ottawa-shooter-being-killed-in-parliament/ "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
  7. There is no blame the victim mentality here, the officer panicked and fucked up..........BAD. Criminal bad, debatable but yes potentially. There is negligence, criminal negligence, reckless and wanton behavior. To what level will need to be decided by the legal system, both criminal and civil. The civil answer is a no-brainer, the criminal is a bit more complicated. I agree the guy who did this has no business in law enforcement. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
  8. I was deployed with some SC Troopers, I have to say I wasn't impressed, But all of them were much younger than me. I had to deal with them on an issue involving one of my troops, they had no idea I was a civilian cop. I did an investigation and proved them wrong, they were not happy campers. When they tried to call me out on my investigative skills, they quickly found out I had been doing investigations for a lot longer then they had and over much more serious things. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
  9. No this is not how you handle the situation, the trooper was terminated and criminally charged. There is no excuse, the trooper panicked, plain and simple. The only difference is in this line of work you make a mistake people can die or you can be criminally charged. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
  10. Thank for proving my point, by ANY objective measure that statement is patently false. But it sells ad space....................... "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
  11. I agree, however what's driving the political winds is largely based on misinformation promulgated by those with a political agenda. The 24hour news cycle and internet feed off this. Cops make mistakes, when they do sometimes they are out there for the world to see. The "bad cops" you speak of are weeded out, and I would agree it takes too long in certain circumstances for many reasons. The same holds true in many other professions. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
  12. For what? Saying that fighting with the police, especially using weapons is not a good idea, and could be dangerous for all involved? It's simply an accurate statement, apparently accuracy scares you. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
  13. ***Right back at you. If cops don't abuse their authority, don't see people as sheep to be ruled, and don't try to be soldiers rather than police, then the problem gets a lot easier - and they get to go home to their families a lot more often.*** That is EXACTLY what I am trying to say, the vast, vast majority no not abuse their authority, don't try to be "soldiers", contrary to what some people think. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
  14. ***Neither are we. *** The answer to that is fairly simple, don't fight, pull/use weapons on the police and you are good. If you do decide to do any of the above, you do so at your own peril. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
  15. Contrary to what you, or others want to believe, we are not punching bags, spittoons, range targets, etc. If you bring a weapon to a fight, a good ending is not in sight. You ask one loaded question and make a judgement, on a situation from knowledge you have from media reports. I will agree the detective made a mistake, it was playing your game. A simple "I wasn't there, neither were you" would have been appropriate. You don't know if a taser was available, or if it's deployments was possible. If a taser was deployed, many would say " I can't believe they tased a 56 year old woman." Either way it's a sad ending, look up Law Enforcement CIT training, it could have made a difference, but again, I wasn't there, neither were you. This same "bully with a badge" would have absolutely no problem running into a building where shots are being fired, or into a school where your kid is. I challenge you to listen to the radio tapes of Aurora Colorado or Sandy Hook. The Boston Marathon bombing is another example, watch what happens when the bombs explode, the cops and military guys (along with a couple citizens) ran into that situation without hesitation. I've said it on this thread once and I'll say it again. Those who expect me to get hurt, just for the sake of getting hurt, have neither the demeanor or fortitude to do this job. I've been in the middle of hundreds of tense situations, most turned out good, some bad, some ugly. I've been hospitalized several times with injuries, this ain't easy, sometimes it ain't fun, and it certainly sometimes ain't pretty. A highly trained pilot stalls an airliner over the ocean and kills hundreds, a doctor misses something or a hospital makes a mistake. Do people condemn the entire profession? No. Good people make mistakes, good people sometimes do bad or dumb things, good people have bad days. There are losers and dipshits in every profession, ours just happen to garner more media attention. Sometimes even if they are right and did nothing wrong. On the flip side, I'm debating with a bunch of people who are not risk averse. Not everyone sees risk the same as skydivers, remember that. If it was up to me, every new recruit would have to do at least a tandem, to see how they react when betting the farm while taking a risk. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
  16. You made very good use of an assumption, thought you edumacated guys didn't do that........... I was speaking to the shooting kids with their hands up comment.......your legs ever get tired from jumping to conclusions? I'm quite familiar with the whole MOVE incident......... Good thing that wasn't a military surplus helicopter, that would have been militarization, besides the dropping a bomb from the sky thing.......... "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
  17. That's bad, Elected Constables are an accident waiting to happen many times. I've had some of them do stupid stuff, some of these guys make a decent amount of money serving papers. The bad thing is many times they have little or no training. In some states it's an elected position and requires no training. if they can get elected. post a surety bond, and buy there own equipment, they can go out and have at. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
  18. ....and making a WAG on issues you know absolutely nothing about or have no first hand knowledge of....... apparently. But if it's on the internet, it's gotta be true. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
  19. Yes, That happened back in the day when the police had revolvers, wore double knit polyester, and they did things the old way with shields, sticks, slapjacks, remember those were the good old days many keep referring too. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
  20. I agree, and have said so, I'm not too found of the feds nor are most local guys. Look at the initial article I posted, it explains my out look in the 1033 program, MRAPS, and military equipment. so does the follow on article by the same guy.......... "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
  21. I hadn't posted here in years, but you're still the same. If you have anything substantive to bring to the discussion please, feel free. As of yet, nope, nada, zip.......... X2 "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
  22. I don't know, why can you? "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
  23. Not anywhere to the extent the hype would lead you believe. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
  24. The "trend" is manufactured and hyped by the media and guys like Radley Balko. The police made mistakes in the response to Ferguson, no doubt. But as I've said many times, the old way of stopping a riot was getting a helmet, a shield, a really large oak stick then physically moving a crowd. That is very messy business. The "militarized" response used LRAD's, armored vehicles (mainly to store gear in), and gas, less lethal projectiles, and pyrotechnics. These items create distance between "protestors" (rioters) and LE. When LE backed off, the violence escalated, then the military had to be brought in, a bit ironic huh? In all the coverage there was not one MRAP I saw, but yet this was about the 1033 program. The picture attached was in the New York Times, under the heading "National Guard leaves Ferguson". Does anyone see what is directly behind the guardsmen? I'll give you a clue, a surplus OH-6A helicopter that St. Louis County has had for 15 yrs, it's not painted scary enough to make headlines I guess. That is the slant of the coverage, many in the media don't do their homework, plus mundane facts don't sell newspapers and ad space. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
  25. Medical mistakes kill lots of people, yet it doesn't damn the entire profession. Two experienced pilots stall a perfectly good airplane and kill hundreds, no one says it's all the "bad pilots" giving the "good pilots" a bad name. It's all relative, I've tried to explain ad nauseam about the number of police contacts daily in the US vs. complaints or controversy. The internet and 24 hour news cycle has made everyone self appointed experts. The police are the most visible form of government, and let's face it, most people aren't too hip on the government right now (including me). Paying taxes, reading the internet, watching youtube, or listening to the myriad of talking heads does not make you an expert. I suggest if it is so easy, by all means, put on the belt and funny outfit, and have at it.................then see what you'd say. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-PIvuPz_KJw "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
