The land where pleas are made and deals struck. Ours isn't as big but still a hectic but well oiled machine. I testified in front of a Grand Jury in a major city where there was actually a green, yellow, and red light. When the yellow light came on, better wrap up your testimony, when red came on you were DONE, even if you weren't. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"

Cop rams suspect walking with stolen/loaded .30-.30 rifle with cruiser
skycop replied to Driver1's topic in Speakers Corner
Due to the type of people they deal with, nightshift guys tend to be a bit more "decisive" than day guys. Just an observation. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!" -

Cop rams suspect walking with stolen/loaded .30-.30 rifle with cruiser

It was ugly, unorthodox, but decisive and effective. The officers could have shot him, my WAG is the backstop was iffy and they didn't want to shoot in that direction. The guy kept his back turned and the situation had to be ended. And ended it was, the officer in the car put himself in danger by driving up on him. All the guy had to do was turn around and open up, there may have been a different outcome. The guy was walking to a more populated area with a stolen loaded rifle, he had robbed a 7-11 earlier in the day, stole a car, then stole a rifle and ammo from a Walmart. He then fired the rifle near the cops. As he kept walking they would have been justified in taking a rifle shot to stop him. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!" -
Facts about Republican support for our enemies

I agree about a viable third party (or more), however the current offerings are sorely lacking............. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!" -

But career politicians create a ruling political class, not the intention of the founders IMHO. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!" -

Regular people who have an interest in serving the greater good, not their self interest. I believe in term limits, because Washington corrupts even the good ones after a lengthy time. We do it for the president, why not congress? "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!" -

Officer charged with murder after shooting man in back
skycop replied to airdvr's topic in Speakers Corner
I agree, it's interesting as the facts come out. The murder charge will probably be reduced, or if the state pushes it, he could potentially beat it at trial. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!" -
Good, Maybe you should show some class, then perhaps you could be an effective leader.......... "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"

There are some fucking stupid cops out there. Choppers overhead obviously with video and they do this? In addition to needlessly beating this guy they need to be fired for being dumber than a box. *** Yep............. -
Really? Read the first link, it articulates my thoughts better than I can. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
-
Read the links, they are interesting and as close to my opinion as I could find. They were written by a police chief who is rather progressive in a law enforcement perspective. He is at the same point in his career as I am, so he's not afraid to speak his mind. The first link is in response to "protestors" about Ferguson, the second is after a police shooting. The tone of your post is the exact reason why race is so divisive when having a conversation. Since you mentioned my opinions and the holocaust in the same sentence, I doubt we could ever have a substantive discussion on this issue. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"

I'm just going by what you said, and the previous posts. If they aren't true, so what, we are both just having a discussion. In the end we probably agree on more than we don't................ I don't take myself that serious. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"

This where I stop, I'm not touching the racial issue, it is the third rail of anything LE. Here is where I keep my opinion to myself, because once the race card is thrown any opposing opinion is subject to an "ist" claim. I think these explain things very well. http://www.cityofmadison.com/police/chief/blog/?Id=6292 http://www.cityofmadison.com/police/chief/blog/?Id=6292 "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"

Not saying he does. The cartoon says "for African Americans" That insinuates the cops are going around blasting African Americans for no reason as a matter of routine, that simply isn't true. When there have been questionable uses of lethal force, the reaction was swift and serious, as it should be. There was an incident recently where a guy was shot for absolutely no reason while reaching for his wallet. That officer was criminally charged, and is awaiting trial. The last incident a guy ran and was shot, that officer is currently in jail with no bond. Bill's post was simply inflammatory and served no real purpose. Normally his posts are quite articulate and full of wit. There was no outrage when African Americans killed African American officers recently, there were two of them. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"

That speak volumes, if your posts are any indication, I'd be one of the SNCO's rolling his eyes after a long winded speech. Then translate after the troops would ask "what the fuck did he just say?"................. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"

There are many factors I guess, we (the old salts) have been talking about this a lot recently. We are getting better educated recruits, but not so street savvy ones. We have also seen a trend of the academy being very hesitant to fail recruits, for a number of reasons. The main two being money and potential legal issues. Makes no sense to us, but we have seen it happen. We also discussed the current benefit/retirement changes in many states. Departments are starting to lose people because in some places there is no longer a defined benefit plan. There is no carrot at the end to get good people to stay. I was one of those people, I kind of fell into police work. I knew if I stayed and put up with all the bullshit there was a benefit at the end of the tunnel. It was a factor in why I chose what I did, I had many other options. Now some good people stay a few years to pad their resume or they are involved in a critical incident and just say "fuck it, I don't need or can't deal with this shit anymore" and leave, there is no incentive to stay. There are good paying jobs (not necessarily in safety/security) in the private sector where police experience is beneficial and even sought after. If I had the answer I'd be a rich guy, these things have been cyclical throughout my career. I've been through several, this will pass but it is no less painful than the previous ones. What we do is honorable, there is no honor in these two latest instances. IMHO "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"

Nice, I really enjoyed the racial component, because moral outrage seems to be a purely one sided racial thing apparently. I expected better, your analogies have sucked recently, now playing the race card. Normally you post here with wit and logic, lately not so much........... "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"

Your prose as always, is ever enlightening. I think perhaps you should change your username to: Captain Obvious "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"

Forgot the bacon, geez............... "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"

When you constantly deal with the dark, negative side of human nature, it's extremely hard and takes a conscious effort not to do that. That's what makes a good cop, not doing that as a default. It's extremely hard not to lose a bit of your humanity when dealing with some really, really bad things. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"

You know it, I know it, but you couldn't convince some in here that the sky is blue......... "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
