Greenwood Village CO - SWAT demolishes house to get gunman
skycop replied to ryoder's topic in Speakers Corner
Nope, not even close, nice try at moral relativism.......... Remember, the MOVE thing was back in the "good old days", when cops gave wood shampoos and dropped bombs on people shooting at them. The good old days when there were very few tactical teams and it was much harder for bad guys to get assault weapons. If Philly would have had a tactical team, equipped with an armored vehicle, the MOVE thing would have ended much different. This is property damage, it's my understanding no one was injured and the bad guy was taken into custody. It sucks I agree, but even the owner admitted it was a "gunman". A gunman that was shooting a people, if that's not a risk to society, I'm not sure what is. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!" -

I don't believe expandable batons (ASP) are illegal for someone to possess. I guess it depends on the state. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!" -

""This is an abomination," he said. "This is an atrocity. To use this kind of force against one gunman." Wow, This stuff just keeps getting sillier by the minute. I guess if it was 15 gunman it would be okay, or maybe just 2, or maybe more than 2, but less than 5. I can understand the guy being pissed, but this dude took people hostage and was shooting at people. A 20 hour standoff disrupts the entire area on many different levels. I know, I've been involved in a few. At some point someone has to make the decision to go get the guy. Perfect example of damned if you do, damned if you don't. Overkill, maybe, but the guy shooting started it. The cops finished it. I'm assuming he was taken alive, that used to be enough. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!" -
This kind of stuff goes on daily, without fanfare, without the 24 hour news cycle over every shoulder. In many, many towns and cities, cops not only work in the community, they are a integral part of the community. They act as mentors, coaches, tutors, ministers, and in a litany of other capacities. The female officer who was recently killed in Omaha Nebraska is a perfect example of this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1LLvKkrAM1U I live very near where I work, I see people I deal with almost daily(good and bad), in the grocery store, at little league games, out eating dinner, and even one time when I ended up in the hospital. I was walking out in the hallway dragging all my IV's with my ass hanging out of my gown, who walks by but a guy I had arrested, along with 4 out of 5 of his kids. His wife was put in the room next door while I was out of it. He looked at me and I said "what's up man, everything okay?" He then proceeded to tell me about his wife having a heart attack, and all the trouble his kids were still in. Why? Because I always treated him and his family decent. I treat people as I would want to be treated, so do the vast, vast majority of cops. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"

I don't.................. Appropriate charges yes. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"

Hmm, it might be more to do with a prosecutors "social justice" leaning prosecution and burning a bridge with the HUNDREDS of other cops who are out there busting their ass to do the right thing. I have no problem with the initial stop, nor should the prosecutor. Actions after the arrest are what appear to be criminal negligence and wanton policy violations. Depending on what happened in the transport van, this could include intentional criminal acts. If this stuff is proved, then hammer the officers involved, no one has a problem with that. BUT, when this all shakes out, I'll bet several walk, and some are convicted of lesser charges at best. Because of the hasty manner in which the prosecutor filed the charges. Proactive police work prevents crime, that is the reality. Take that away and crime rates rise dramatically, and the most at risk population suffers the most. For those who say "let them kill each other" that is complete horseshit. These acts are committed by a very small percentage of the population, even in "rough neighborhoods". These neighborhoods are full of good people, stuck in bad situations. I worked the inner-city for a long time, and still end up in the area on occasion. I have good relationships with the people in the neighborhoods where I worked. Now I'm dealing with some of their kids, and even grandkids.... If I had the answer to this mess, I'd be a rich guy. The cops fucked up by starting this mess, the mayor and city leadership made it worse by a complete lack of leadership, the prosecutors office made it worse by hastily filing criminal charges. This is only going to get worse in the short term, who knows what will happen when this thing is finally adjudicated. http://www.bizpacreview.com/2015/05/28/she-didnt-like-cops-even-then-baltimore-prosecutor-has-a-past-with-judge-judy-208362 You can't even make this stuff up.......... But all of them aren't using the evil military surplus equipment. That was the point of the post. http://www.policeone.com/standoff/articles/7705651-Wis-police-crediting-MRAP-after-standoffs-peaceful-end/ http://www.mitchellrepublic.com/news/local/3657867-mitchells-armored-truck-was-key-kimball-standoff https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ymWGQtu2xag http://fox40.com/2015/03/27/report-of-two-shot-in-a-davis-home-prompts-standoff/ http://www.cnjonline.com/2014/08/27/police-chief-military-vehicle-has-earned-its-keep/ http://chronicle.northcoastnow.com/2015/01/28/standoff-lorain-ends-peacefully/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XiY9NctTgY8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dtdj9EJPQjw The vast majority of these stories are local, I have yet to see a national story showcasing the ACTUAL uses of surplus equipment. But I've seen plenty on the implications of the equipment, that simply aren't true. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"

Before the current political climate this would be called "resourceful", a "peace dividend", "thinking outside the box". "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"

During flood rescue operations on May 24, 2015 San Marcos Police Officers rescued two persons from their home on Adrian St. In the 700 Block of Barbara Dr. 36 inches of water was rushing down the street, as vehicle began to float away. 4 people were rescued by officers, from several homes, in the 700 Block of Barbara Dr. A family of 6 was calling for help in the area of the Colony Square Apt. Responding from Barbara Dr. officers drove through deep and rising waters, as well as navigated through vehicles abandon because of the rising flood waters. 14 people were rescued in the area of the Colony Square Apt. Officers were flagged down and told of a mother who was being swept away near the complex. She and her 16 yoa son were located and rescued. With 20 people in the vehicle they were all transported safely to the shelter. Officers received a call for a family stuck in a vehicle near Wal Mart. Arriving on the scene officers rescued a man, two kids, and two dogs from a vehicle in high water. People do not realize how multipurpose police units are. But in reality police patrol units were unable to perform this mission. You see we lost patrol vehicles in the floor waters. So were the police Tahoes and SUV’s up to this task or maybe a fire engine rescue vehicle? None of these could complete this mission. The mission was completed using the MRAP. A vehicle the San Marcos Police Department acquired from the DOD. Many people say that there is no use for such a vehicle in police work. I’d say asked the 25 people and three dogs rescued in San Marcos Texas during the worst flood in the city’s history. What did it cost this community? 26.5 gals/$74.45 in fuel and saved lives. You use the term "summary execution" and I'm the one spewing nonsense. This may work on your captive audience of entitled millennials.................. Perhaps you should listen to these young people http://fox8.com/2015/05/27/dont-believe-the-hype-brunswick-students-lock-arms-with-officers-to-spread-positive-message/ "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!" -

A PERFECT example of a false narrative, there is not one part of that even remotely true. The sarcasm is expected, especially when facts don't matter. Ok, bring up Diallo, you always do. One would think a smart guy like you would promote a causational analysis, but rhetoric is much easier. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!" -

They were in the process of arresting and charging him, he had a record for similar offenses. These things are not occurring in a vacuum, they are responses to actions taken by the people involved. You'll see a lot detractors screaming about the cops shooting dogs. Each time the dog was doing something to elicit a reaction. Good or bad there are reasons these things happen. I've had to shoot a couple dogs, and I'm an animal guy. If the cops were going around randomly shooting cats, them we'd all have reason to be concerned.......... The same applies to these things, especially Ferguson. It is a false narrative, and has been proven so. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!" -

Sporty=Hairy I figured the use of hairy didn't sound right. I use the term sporty because it gives a confident in control feeling. On the radio, "hey guys, step it up, this is getting a bit sporty" is better than saying "hurry up, I'm getting my ass kicked" If you look at this like a game, it will come up and bite you right in the ass. Believe me, I know, I've had several trips to the hospital. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!" -

My source is the actual reality, I've been involved in several critical incidents in the last few months. Some have been a little sporty. But you'll never read or see those other than a blurb in the local media, and I'm just one guy. There are thousands of cops all over the country who have been in more, and a lot more sportier situations than I have been. Again, you'll never see the vast majority of those either. The police aren't running around perpetrating violence against random citizens. That's what many detractors would like people to believe. All of the people involved in these current situations were involved in criminal activity. With the exception of the guy reaching for his wallet in SC, that was a mistake by the officer, a criminal one............ The "acts of violence" aren't nearly as widespread either. Violent confrontations are far removed from most peoples professional orientations, yet many like to lecture on these confrontations. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nRd5oucG114 "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!" -
