  1. Heya all, I believe the problem with incoming e-mail has been resolved. My apologies for the inconvenience and especially to those of you who lost messages in the process. I hope the e-mail application on the new server will not only be faster but also more reliable. The Dropzone Mail application is also up for an upgrade soon.... Stay tuned.

  3. Hey sigsby, First of all, my apologies for the inconvenience. I have reached the end of my skills in trying to resolve this problem and I now have my hosting provider working on it for me. They are a great crowd and I'm sure they'll help me resolve this soon... In short, the way the mail program works is it drops all the incoming mail in a catch-all account from where a set of PERL scripts pick them up and sort them to the appropriate directories. We are having a problem with keeping the mail in the catch-all account long enough for the scripts to grab them. Thanks for the offer to help but I think I'll leave it with them for a couple of hours...I'm going to try and resolve this before i hit the sack tonight.... it's 9:30 PM now.... Again, my apologies - I know it's annoying. Keep the faith though. Safe swoops Sangiro

  5. If anyone wants to put time in and write one that can integrate into the current Dropzone.com user database (mySQL) - then I'll gladly host it I've had a few offers down these lines before but it never seems to pan out... Having your private logbook online is cool, but databases really only become useful once you can start mining them for analysis. i.e. - "show me the average freefall time for 4 ways launced from 15 grand" (not sure what that's good for but you get the idea) Think about creative ways to get the data from a Pro-Track (and others) into your db and it'll open a few more doors. Anyway, just thinking out loud..... Safe swoops Sangiro
  6. I've re-posted Robbie Culver's article "So you want to be a camera flyer, huh?" to the Photography section of the site.
  7. Hey - you should be able to get in now from both the myDropzone and home pages. You'll be able to send mail but I suspect there may still be a problem with incoming mail. I'm working on it - my apologies for the inconvenience. Safe swoops Sangiro

    It's done!

Ok - it's done! The site is now running on a dedicated server. Drop in and read the announcements. I hope it's faster now.....
  16. Heya all, I've implemented a feature again that enables you to upload your favourite skydiving photos through your browser to the Dropzone.com Galleries and share them with your friends. Here are some tips for uploading your photos: Rename your photo to have a unique name. Use something like: your_name_description.jpg. If you upload it with the generic name your camera gave it, you risk overwriting someone else's image or vice versa. (eg. sangiro_freefly_sunset_exit.jpg) Upload high quality images. The Dropzone.com gallery scripts will automatically resize and compress your photo and create a thumbnail for you. Type a short caption. Your caption will be displayed under your image when viewed at full size. Tell us something about the photo. (eg. A sunset freeflying exit during the Byron Boogie with Chris, John and the guys from the LooseFingers team) Add search keywords. Keyword tags will enable you to search for your images in the future. If you tag all images with your name at least, then a search for your name will bring up all your photos regardless of which category you uploaded them to. Use spaces to separate your keywords (eg. sangiro freeflying exit sunset Byron LooseFingers) Click the "Post my Picture!" button ONCE only! It will take a while to upload your photo (depending on the size of the original image). Be patient, a message will alert you when the upload has been completed and will show you a preview of your image and thumbnail. Send a Postcard. Remember you can send your own images as electronic postcards. View your photo in full size and click on the "Send as a Postcard" link at the bottom of the page. Have fun!
  17. Heya all, Dropzone.com has outgrown its home so we've moved it to it's own dedicated server. I hope this will be the last move for a while as we are now on a environment that should prevent us from running into the same performance issues we recently experienced. As with any system move there's likely to be some quirks and maybe a few bugs. Feel free to let us know in the Error and Bug Reports forum if you happen stumble upon any. Safe swoops Sangiro
  18. Nope, it's just Clay not being around. Let's talk again on Monday though......
  19. Thanks guys - that should do. (you'll all get to see it soon!
  20. Heya Jason - good to see you again. Yup, I remember that picture well. In fact it's still around in FreefallFreak's Fantasy, arguably still the mother of all threads! Safe swoops Sangiro
  21. Heya all, Well, the move to the new server is almost complete. A few more late-nighters and we should be ready to cut it over. I'm looking for a few people to help me do some testing again. If you have some time on your hands over the next couple of days and would like to browse around the fast

The late Patrick De Gayardon was, as with many other things, the pioneer who did this first using a wingsuit (which he also pretty much pioneered!) to fly back into the same Porter he jumped from. Joe Jennings and his band of merry men including Omar Alhegelan, Greg Gasson, and Steve Curtis did it without wingsuits over Skydive Arizona earlier this year flying into a different plane than the one they jumped from. Some cool pictures by Brent Finley and the article here. Safe swoops Sangiro
