I don't mean to offend you either but.... I don't think Phree was trying to moderate at all. I think he was expressing his opinion and I also think he managed to read my position on both flashing avatars and long sigs very accurately. He actually PMed me before he did that post and asked if I minded that he bump it up again. I had no problem with him doing it. With all due respect Nathan, I find it a bit surprising (to say the least) that you will venture to make comments about others doing things that may be "annoying to others" in what could be construed as a personal attack. Phree: I've actually done this. The ones that are bouncing now are people who set this before I made the change. May go back at some stage and force all of these off so people have to reset them... Rhino: Yes, I have considered (and the scripts allow for this) to force a valid e-mail address by sending people an e-mail and having them activate their account when they receive the e-mail. I may still do this in the future but where I've applied this in the past I found that I end up with a large number of accounts that are never activated. If I do this in the future I may just purge inactive accounts after a while. There are pro's and cons...

What does the title "geronimo", "pooh-bah", and "carpal tunnel" say about a person's skydiving skills? I think it's abundantly clear that these titles have nothing to do with skydiving. So, to the confused out there: Check any advice you get on these forums (or anywhere else), whether the title says "newbie" or "veteran" and the profile says 10 or 12,000 jumps, with your own instructors and before you apply it. If this is not your attitude about this sport in general already, then you may want to take up bowling. This forum isn't playing a "dangerous game". Skydiving is a dangerous pursuit. If you're not smart enough to know that all information needs filtering and verification before you apply it to something that may cost you your life when you screw up... well, then you're halfway on the way to hurting yourself already... regardless of whether these forums exist or not. In the end you're responsible for your own safety in this sport, you make your own decisions on what to listen to and what not, what to do and what not - not some "veteran" on an internet forum! Yes, what Dave said! Also, by making the effort and taking the time to update your forum profile with a valid email address you'll be saving my mail server from a lot of bounced emails. I receive more than 200 bounce emails per day from people who asked to be notified when a post is made to a thread but they don't have a valid email address entered for the notification to go to. Erno, It's obviously hard to decide what the "right" answer may be, and often there are more than one. The database that I created enables people to vote for the "usefullness" of a tip or answer. This will enable the entire skydiving community to moderate and rate an entry. I may drop those that are less usefull from the database from time to time. Safe swoops Sangiro

Heya guys... yes this is a good idea. I've discussed it a while ago with the greenies already. In fact, I've actually built the database for this already! The biggest draw-back here would be the effort to maintain this and feed the information in. Non of us had time to do that. How do we keep the data new and relevant? Answers change over time.... Who will do this? Anyone? I'd like to hear a few more thoughts from people about this. I do believe this is a good idea that's worth exploring? Safe swoops Sangiro
