  6. Heya all, I thought I'd give a quick update on the spam filtering that I've set up for Dropzone Mail. At this time I've decided to activate SpamAssassin only. I've already installed SpamCop (which is more aggressive) and should the mail server end up being flooded by junk I'll flip the switch on that bad boy. For now here's a cool way to deal with your spam: SpamAssassin will look at all incoming messages and apply a set of rules, looking for features commonly associated with spam (e.g. false date, no subject line, words that indicate porn, words that indicate credit card offers etc) Each occurrence is assigned a weighted point. The moment the points add up to 5 it will mark the message in the subject line with *****SPAM***** and alter the body to tell you how it came to that conclusion. So, to filter your spam. Go to the Options" menu, click on "Advanced Filters" and set up a filter to look for *****SPAM***** in the subject of all emails and filter those off to a special Spam/Bulk folder that you can create. This should take care of about 95% of the spam you receive! This is commonly known as "a good thing". The advantage of filtering it to another folder is that you can (if you want to) quickly scan over the spam messages to see if there's anything legitimate in there before you delete them. On the topic of deleting messages. Remember when you delete something it get's moved to your Trash folder and it still counts to your 2MB of free space. You need to empty your Trash to get rid of these messages. To clean out your Trash click on the "Folders" link, select trash and click on "Empty". That should do it!
  7. Mario, I checked it out and that's definitely and option. Looking at the weather it looks like it's thunderstorms back-to-back though. Is that the case or what's the weather like? Safe swoops Sangiro
  8. Where in Portugal? Safe swoops Sangiro
  9. Nope, don't think that helped at all! If it did... then I pitty the poor soul who hasn't worked there yet... Safe swoops Sangiro
  10. Ok - seeing as I can't get into the US I think I'll go jump out of some planes. Looking for a DZ in France or Spain with good weather this time of the year. Would prefer to hear from people who are there right now! I know the World Cup is on at Empuriabrava. Their runway sis closed for construction on 21 and 22 Oct though. I'll still consider them. Any others? What's it like in Vichy this week?
  11. Hey! Start using it!! I just sent you another one... now you have 2! Safe swoops Sangiro
  12. Better use it while you can... it may not be there much longer.

  15. Heya all, I've replaced the Auctions link in the main navigation bar with a link to your Email. This should give you quick access to your Dropzone Mail from anywhere on the site. The new email app is well worth checking out!

  20. A quick question: I'm looking at a couple of options to fight spam in the Dropzone Mail service. Some solutions out there are more aggressive and some less so. Here are the options: 1. None - Use the new Dropzone Mail application's ability to add email addresses to your own spam list as well as filter for words in the subject or address. 2. ORDB - Filter all incoming mail against open relay databases (ORDB) Gets 20-30% of spam in our tests, but very little real email is blocked. 3. SpamAssassin - This just tags email as spam, so you still download it, but the subject is altered as ****** SPAM ****** for easy filtering. This way you don't lose anything. Gets 95% of spam, but also a little legit email. 4. Spamcop - Gets 99% of spam, but blocks more legit mail. You don't download the spam at all, it's killed on the server. So, which would you prefer? 22. Hehehe! I've been burned at the stake many times! The Skydive Ring certainly was controversial. I guess it was my first attempt at trying to make the point that I'm not here to please everyone and I'm holding Dropzone.com to high standards. There would be no point now in that approach to a webring for Dropzone.com anymore. Then, half my site was defined by the Skydive Ring! Craig Poxon now regularly posts here and although I still haven't met him I'm hoping he won't kick me in the nuts when he sees me. (Do a search in rec.skydiving for "sangiro porch"!) Darin Ninness who's page is linked from Craig's actually wrote me a while ago and we had a good laugh. We we're all much more full of shit in 1997. I trust Darin will forgive me for posting part of our e-mail exchange here below. The best trashings I've ever received can still be found right here in these forums... just look for it! Hehehehe! The best way avoid criticism is to say nothing, do nothing and be nothing. Safe swoops Sangiro
  23. You really think those are hidden? Been reading them in the Tequila thread and everywhere else... would be very easy to change all #eeeeff in the database to a bright bold red and make them pop out... Nope, doesn't piss me off, just wonder what the point is?
  24. Nice try mac.... but I'm not spanking YOU! Safe swoops Sangiro
