  1. I hear we have at least nine new birds in Maine. Speak up. "¯"`-._.-¯) ManBird (¯-._.-´"¯" Click
  2. The S3 is more sensitive to body position, but it's not much of an issue if you've dialed that in on the GTi. Flat spins are more likely. Like what has been said here, if you fly it properly, it is very strenuous. If you weaken your arms too much, you will have difficulty getting a good pilot chute throw. One other word of advice: PRACTICE PULLS!!!! PRACTICE PULLS!!!! PRACTICE PULLS!!!! PRACTICE PULLS!!!! PRACTICE PULLS!!!! PRACTICE PULLS!!!! PRACTICE PULLS!!!! PRACTICE PULLS!!!! PRACTICE PULLS!!!! PRACTICE PULLS!!!! PRACTICE PULLS!!!! PRACTICE PULLS!!!! PRACTICE PULLS!!!! There's a lot of material in the way and you will most likely get a fistful of wing when you go to deploy, unless you practice pull your ass off. Er... I actually didn't grab wing for awhile, and a big part of it was doing hundreds of practice pulls on the ground, and about six in the air. Other than that, you'll love it. The difference between the two is that of a glider and a jet fighter. Have fun and be safe. "¯"`-._.-¯) ManBird (¯-._.-´"¯" Click
  3. Actually, he has only done a tandem, and I was in DeLand when he did it. His motives are spot on, and most of his info is on. I think the quadruple figure came from doing a 30 second tandem, compared to a two-minute flight with the Skyray. Being that he is soon going to be the voice to the general public regarding what we are doing, whether we like it or not. The better thing to do is send him the correct data before it gets finalized in his upcoming book about BirdMan. His data seems to be about 5% - 10% off a lot of the time, and he seems to be very open to correction. Far better than this kloojy debacle of misinformation: http://www.usatoday.com/life/movies/news/2003-07-22-croft-stunts_x.htm "¯"`-._.-¯) ManBird (¯-._.-´"¯" Click
  4. Hey Michael, I don't know if you were aware of it or not, but Niels was flying his wrist to ankle suit while you were down in DeLand. We went on a flight the same day you did your jump and article on BirdMan. Did you meet up with him at all? "¯"`-._.-¯) ManBird (¯-._.-´"¯" Click
  5. You don't need two people. ;) Three guys were doing a dog fight. I was going to buzz them, and found that the last one out was having a spinning mal on his little Velocity. I flew a few circles around him, laughing all the way. He eventually kicked out and fixed it (which was pretty impressive for its severity, but he did have about 12,000 feet to work on it). It was pretty sweet, because this is the same guy that was flying on his back, laughing at me, when I had a mal on a wingsuit hop and pop. "¯"`-._.-¯) ManBird (¯-._.-´"¯" Click

  8. Thanks! But it's being moved right now... so nothing to show. :( Though, being that it's 8:43 PM on Friday night and I just got off work, I evidently don't have time. Sorry. "¯"`-._.-¯) ManBird (¯-._.-´"¯" Click
  9. The Sizzler near Elsinore gives 10% off to skydivers. That's more of a punishment, though, I guess. "¯"`-._.-¯) ManBird (¯-._.-´"¯" Click
  10. Not entire certain of the science behind it, but when you are flying in the "sweet spot"... where your fall rate is at about as low as you can get it, your flight suddenly becomes VERY sensitive. The slightest assymetry can cause you to go unstable... ranging from wobbling to a full on flat spin. "¯"`-._.-¯) ManBird (¯-._.-´"¯" Click

  13. Cross-posted here: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=630912#630912 Check out the video here: http://www.bird-man.com/index.asp?n=piece&a=id&v=80 Video requires Windows Media Player with the DivX 5 codec and it is highly recommended that you download the file before viewing it, rather than trying to stream it. 14. Do you guys have the DivX 5 codec? I also recommend DLing it and then viewing it. "¯"`-._.-¯) ManBird (¯-._.-´"¯" Click
  15. To answer the other half of your question, kill-line PCs have no implications. They function just as well with a wingsuit as they do without one, as they (usually) don't collapse until after they do their job. "¯"`-._.-¯) ManBird (¯-._.-´"¯" Click
  16. That's a Mormon allegory. Big difference, actually. "¯"`-._.-¯) ManBird (¯-._.-´"¯" Click
  17. FYI, fall rate averaged low 80s on this jump. "¯"`-._.-¯) ManBird (¯-._.-´"¯" Click

  19. Just put up a better version of it. Still not DV quality or anything, but (noticeably) better nonetheless. Increased the framerate, resolution, and datarate quite a bit, but it only added a few hundred KB. Not bad. The quality of my filming, though... that's bad. It was like my fifteenth to twentieth camera jump, and I wasn't sighted in/I don't have a ringsight. I figured I'd wait until I knew what I was doing before making anything public, but the content was too good to pass up... no matter how not-framed-up it is. Made the music, though, so... blernk. 20. You're on crack. LouDiamond saw it, and that's all that matters. :) "¯"`-._.-¯) ManBird (¯-._.-´"¯" Click
  21. Sounds like your player is stuck. Make sure your Windows Media Player and DivX codec is up to date. Added: Try it now. WMP seems to like the AVI extension better, though, it really shouldn't matter either way. "¯"`-._.-¯) ManBird (¯-._.-´"¯" Click
  22. http://www.bird-man.com/?n=piece&a=id&v=80 Grasshopper in Pantz. TALONSKY and I (behind the camera) in our S3s. 30 seconds of poorly filmed wonder. If for any reason the video doesn't play straight from the link, download it and then play it. Windows Media Player can sketch out when trying to play DivX encoded WMVs over the web.
