whats the most amazing/beautiful thing you have seen under canopy?
flypunk replied to Newbie's topic in The Bonfire
my bright orange fully inflated & funcitonal reserve on top of my head after a spinning mal. -
both nice to have, not necessary, except when you need em ya' know. Kinda like airbags and abs on cars. What would you choose between those.... without abs the airbags would come in handy, but with abs the airbags are not so necessary huh? then again can you drive safely without either, Yes, it was done for years its just an added safety feature can you get in an accident even by having them.... yes they are not a substitute for driving skill. Can they cause an accident or kill you.. yes premature airbag deployment, excesive force etc, abs not engaging.... Will they prevent you from dying in case of an accident... maybe. Can you prevent and accident from happening so that you don't need them... maybe. Now if you want to complicate it more add wingloading on reserve to the equation.... ...

most of the operations I know use mixing boards, and then its mostly straight out equipment, sound boards, vcrs cameras etc, no computers at all. ...

I would have to agree with Dave and go with tandem. It usually ends up cheaper, if the dz has a tandem progression program. And yes, tandem rides can be one hell of a ride if done correctly. It allows a student to focus on training for a specific protion of the dive with better results IMO. Having an instructor with you under canopy is hard to top when it comes to teaching canopy control to someone who is foreign to the concept. ...

ok so I thought you had no time to edit the pictures.... come on... please we want the pictures

Tandem to overcome fear before getting back into aff?
flypunk replied to Daizey's topic in Safety and Training
WOW! A dz who doesn't want to take a tandem up? hell I am doing one with an experienced skydiver just cuz he never did one. In all seriousness it sounds like its the way to go with your friend and I see no reason why she should be pushed into something that she doesn't want to do, specially if she is already having second thoughts about it. The tandem progression system allows for training in tandems and transition to AFF, I would say get her to a DZ that will help her not push her. ... -

If you had a naked, off landing, would you . . . ?
flypunk replied to kelel01's topic in The Bonfire
Damn, I am looking at the results and all I can say is skydivers are weird. Y'all are ready to go up naked in the plane and have naked pool parties and all, with the regulars at the dz but when it comes down to a stranger (whom you might never see again) now you become shy?????? funny how fast people let go of the strut once they realize your naked and joining them out there ... -
Damn turtles have to be so s...l....o....w..... post the pictures or they catch up with the ones from this weekend. ...

very close to a time when terrorist offered a bag of food to a homeless child and his brother (both under 7 years old), in exchange for taking a bag to a man inside a restaurant. The bag had a bomb which they set off when he went through the doors If you feel that there is a right side to using children this way, you are a very pathetic individual. ...

Ok, I can see the argument being made of how H1-B's are used to hire low wage personnel that are not even more skilled than local workers. I have several friends that are Tech guys with H1-B's, and this is how it usually goes, for a guy to get a H1-B they have to get a sponsor, which means they have to find a company who is willing to hire them in the us, their wages are regulated and cannot be less than the mean otherwise they cant be hired. Once this is on the works, for a company to sponsor a H1-B they have to post a sign that says they are hiring someone from out of the US and how much he is making, this sign is in plain sight within the company, public knowledge and if there are any local skilled workers who want to be paid that, then he is denied the visa. This process takes about anywhere from 3 months to a year and its a costly endeavor for both the techie and the company not only because of the time involved but the lawyer and government fees. Why would anyone go through this much trouble if they could find the same labor over here? Also several of my techie H1-B friends got laid off a couple of years ago and they still found jobs afterwards not without some difficulties but they still found them, ohh yeah that is because they took the "lower" paid jobs., you know the ones were its hard work in awful conditions.... damn if making 80k a year out of college is awful then I bet they were really slumming when they had to take it for peanuts (76k instead of the 80k), heck one of my friends switched companies 3 times within the last 3 years and raised his salary over 50%, I guess they are really just cheap labor with nothing else to offer. Yes is sucks to loose you job, yes it sucks that someone else from was hired cuz he is less expensive than you, but you would be amazed if you really go in depth into the H1-B to see all the roadblocks and checkpoints that a H1-B applicant has to go through and how easily it is for a US worker to take that same job, all you have to do is apply and qualify. ohh and all those union laws that keep the jobs here, what are they doing to prevent the hiring of illegal immigrants which create a demand for the huge flow of them into the US. ...

How do you do your video editing at the dz?
flypunk replied to kansasskydiver's topic in Photography and Video
editing boards and linear footage help a lot, you can punch em out in about 7 mins flat. Dvd option used to be available, took another 7 to dub em into it. ... -
That is the type of situation which may allow u to maneuver it on top of another canopy, cut away (hook knife) your reserve, land on top of the other jumpers canopy grab his risers, then he cuts away and goes to his reserve, and you both make it back on good canopies! ok in all seriousness if the trees ares a bunch and thick, yes the trees otherwise swoop the pond! ...

Unless it was a tandem progression student, by the time the student realizes there is something wrong the cypress would fire (unless of course there is no cypress). As far as flying the student would have to have one hell of a reach to get the toggles, there is however one incident in which the TM passed out after opening and one toggle was released and they spiraled into the ground. ...

Can't comment on what happened on SDH since I was only around for a couple of hours this weekend, but as far as someone getting "dropped", yes it is possible and not unherad of. If you are a danger to yourself and to those around you it would be irresponsible to let you continue and hurt yourself and/or someone else. ...
