  1. Hi guys Yesterday I had a hard landing (ok, I swear it's a hard landing though I was flying a student rig and the video shows otherwise ) where I landed on the (I think) balls of my feet and fell forward. Yesterday and this morning, the 'knuckles' of my feet hurt slightly. Not bad enough to bother me, but I'm curious what 1) could have happened 2) what likely happened. I've got no medical background so I just assumed it's a very minor fracture (can't be a sprain, it's not a joint right) but I'm curious what people with medical and/or skydiving background think.
  2. I'm not sure about the skydiving community in Malaysia, but there's a tunnel at Genting. It's 1/4 price of iFly SG but the fan isn't powerful, so you can only work on low speed stuff. There's a tunnel group in Singapore
  3. For iFly Singapore, if you fly coach specific slots, it's minimum of 5 'skydives' in 1 time slot. If you choose your own coach from the spotters, it's minimum of 20 'skydives' in 4 hours.
  4. I'm sorry but I'll have to disagree. There's much more to being a tunnel instructor like controlling wind and repeating the same lesson many times a day for months. Liking flying and liking to be a tunnel instructor is completely different. I do know an instructor who is a great teacher to first timers, and extremely cheerful and positive. I'm sure for him things worked out great.
  5. Which forum would you recommend posting it in? The carpool forum seems really dead (last post 2012)?
  6. I've got to go there Friday evening, so I don't think the shuttle works for me. I've been in contact with one of the staff. I was looking at Skydive Maitland, but they have ground school on weekdays (which I'm not free) Picton's the third closest option, though it's like 200km travelling.
  7. I tried, but I can't create an account. They say my email's been rejected (it's a normal gmail); maybe it has something to do with the fact that I'm not an APF member, haven't done AFF.
  8. Hi guys I'm just wondering if anyone is headed to Sydney Skydivers this Friday evening. I've got no transport besides public I'm from the Newcastle area, but any train stop is fine. I'll split gas edit: I hope this is fine with mods, but if it isn't, tell me and I'll delete it; I'm still new here.
  9. My bad got me confused there
  10. iFly Singapore. Last I heard they're hiring new tunnel instructors. I would have signed up if: 1) I had known about this earlier 2) There wasn't such a long commitment. A year is pushing it for me.
  11. Is it a regular thing or was there a special event on? If we have scrambles instructors obviously work longer.
  12. iFly Singapore, but I've stopped going there since I moved to Australia. Coaching here happens in 2 ways, there are fixed coaching time slots (minimum 5 'skydives') but there's an assigned instructor. If you want your own instructor (they all double up as spotters), you have to go for 20 'skydives' in the span of 4 hours. I'm sure there must be some kind of minimum right? You can't just go to the tunnel and say I'd like coaching for 2 'skydives'. I've flown just 2 'skydives' before in a single day.
  13. So it basically means that all these guys know is how to walk,to spot, to catch people (basically FITP) but they have no instructor ratings (Instructor 1 - 4)? Why work at a tunnel then if you don't get to fly? edit: And yes, I would pay for coaching if I went to those kind of tunnels
  14. Are you sure they work long hours? I'm not too sure but I don't really see people working the whole day. Sure, they do either opening or closing, and weekends and public holidays, but my boss at fast food worked from 9am to 11pm on some days
  15. How did you get it so high? I thought normally it's from 12k to 14k feet, around there?
  16. But since you're bringing in another guy I think there's a minimum number of flights right? One of the reasons why I didn't want coaching was this minimum number of flights thing
  17. How does tunnel time work in the US? Are you paying extra for a coach, and if you do, do they replace the spotter? If you go to the tunnel without coaching time, do they actually give you tips or they only ask you for wind speed?
  18. From what I understand, you cannot (or rather there's no point) in paying for yourself. For insurance reasons, you can only get a job where they sent you for the course. In Singapore, an instructor told me the pay is at the higher end of fast food, which should be $2k/month. Systems work differently around the world, but from what I understand they train you from the ground up (freeflying and Flight Instructor Training Program(FITP)) and make you sign a bond of 2-2.5 years. There are different levels Instructor 1-4 and Trainer 2-Examiner. The other option is to moonlight as a freelance tunnel instructor (say at places like Skyventure Genting) but you risk getting caught and screwing your career over depending on your local tunnel policy. There's a lot going on behind the scenes. For every slot that you spend pulling people around in the tunnel (which might get boring after a year), you've got to spend an equal amount of time conducting a class and controlling air flow. Not to mention some days you work merchandise counter, public holidays, etc... All in all think hard and carefully
  19. Yes, but this person is on stage 4 of AFF, not an 80kg guy trying to go head down
