  1. I had a really cool one last night where I went into a sitfly for the first time and I was CRUISIN' across the sky, I'm talkin' about out flying along side the dropship! It was sooooo coool. Then when I opened, I found myself under a 210 instead of the usual 290 and I had soo much fun with the canopy and landed a perfect, exilerating swoop. I even dreampt about the ease of carrying the comparitivly tiny canopy to the hanger by simply throwing it over my shoulder (YOU try doing that with a 290, or a 325... ) So what are some of your fun and entertaining skydiving dreams. It doesn't even have to be about a skydive, as long as you mention skydiving or anything to do with a DZ cause I know some crazy shiat goes on after hours
  2. I'm having a hard time visualizing what your glove could get caught in/on to cause you to not be able to bring the handle back up? Also some one mentioned that if Holly's handle was stuck in the pulled down position, that she could have easily planed out by pulling down the other toggle. My question is, would strength have been an issue here? Could it be that if the handle was stuck down, that the forces from the turn made the opposite toggle too hard to pull down to plane out?
  3. Hey, I speak only the truth so are you going to be at Perris for memorial day?
  4. I also strongly believe that the incidents forum should be used to discuss the facts and facts alone. I created THIS thread in S&T to discuss all other second hand information, speculation and general ideas not only about the incident reguarding Holly, but any incident related to skydiving wether it's listed in the incidents forum or not. I think it's important to have a dedicated thread for these discussions instead of letting them run rampant throughout the forums. It is better for us all to have a central source for this discussion.
  5. Due to the increased hostility in the Fatality Skydive Arizona thread in the incidents forum reguarding discussing possibilities and speculation as to the cause of the incident versus discussion of known facts, I decided to end the bickering and form this thread. Feel free to give your opinion as the the cause of ANY incident reguarding skydiving here. Now lets all be a happy family. "Won't You Be My Neighbor?" - a well known phrase coined by the man of my worst nightmares.
  6. You can do EVERYTHING right in the sport of skydiving and still DIE. Not just from another careless person. I read here on the forums about a guy who when he tossed, a line caught somehow on a grommet, caused a horseshou, he cutaway and pulled reserve and they entangled. He died. He did everything right, he had a perfect position on opening, he followed the proper emergency procedured and he still died. About the only way this could have been avoided is by doing a complete comprehensive inspection of your gear before each and every jump...and that isn't going to happen. And even then, I don't know if that would have helped.
  7. hehe, this is just another beginner, but yeah a wingsuit presents much more dangers if you don't have the skill/experience to mitigate them. It alters the pull sequence, complicates emergency procedures, and if you don't have the flying skills already, good luck trying to fly one
  8. Hope ya don't mind but I think I'm gonna pitch a tent and set up camp RIGHT here Very good looks you have there, coupled with what seems to be a kick ass personality from what I have seen here on the forums, I hope I can make a jump with you someday
  9. So uh...you live in Forest Grove...CRaZY!!! I live RIGHT next door to Neil Armstrong Middle School. I'm a senior at FGHS! I hope you find what you're looking for and join our wonderful sport
  10. WHOA!!! lol It looks funny on the ground, but it is sooooooooooo sweeeet looking in the air. I would LOVE to try birdman, but sadly, I lack the experience. Maybe next year I will try my hand at flying birdman, but until then I will be confined to spectator status
  11. Nope it really looks stupid on the ground. It looks like he's wearing a really crappy dress
  12. I LOVED that picture, I hope she looks JUST like that, flipping me the bird, when I pass through the golden gates A friend of mine told me I seemed a little bumed, and asked me why. I told him that a cool chick I talked to online died. He was like, "you never met her though? Why you so bummed?" Just another example of how cool we are as skydivers. We are such a close knit group even though most of us don't know eachother from Adam. It doesn't matter if I've never heard your name, I still care about you and it hurts when you leave. I hope that one day in the VERY VERY distant future, I hurt all of you deeply
  13. This is a little off topic (well...this IS talkback), but DAMNIT!!!! I wish I could have met her...well someday I guess I will
  14. My lord, this girl has more friends than she knows...I can only hope to have this sort of reception in my passing. I love you guys
  15. So if you accept donations until may 12th and have more than enough for the memorial and the flowers, what about donating the remainder of the money to Hollys family to assist with funeral bills, those ain't cheap...
  16. You'll definately get a donation from me
  17. So I broke out of the box and tried out another DZ this weekend! I usually jump at Kapowsin, but good ole Monarch135 convinced me to jump down at Wright Brothers Skydiving. It was a little eerie down there 'cause despite the comparativly beautiful weather, the dz was empty for the most part. My home DZ's rental student gear is all SOS, and Lou down at WBS wanted to keep me on familiar gear, so I ended up flying a 325 square foot monster instead of my 290 square foot barge. I was also dumbfounded by the placement of the ripcord (no I have not been transitioned to BOC), instead of the handle being where the normal BOC is, it was on the left MLW. That might not sound strange to you guys, but I had never actually seen one of those yet. Anyway I had to beat it into my head that when it came time to pull, I need not go for the "BOC". Anywho, here goes the jump. I exit and after about 10 seconds of backloops, and getting over the dizzyness from that, I did a practice pull...except the handle wasn't where it was when I left...it was floating around neck level... It took me a few interesting moments to find it. I was thinking calmly...WTF? So instead of playing around in the sky, I held on to my handle. I pulled at 4k and had a beautiful opening followed by a big ass red canopy with a hard built in right turn...I was like...ooooookaaay....interesting. So I did some practice flares...well the stall point was MUCH higher on this than what I usually fly and I stall the canopy, it deflates. I ease up the toggles and it reinflates with end cell closure. This was my first encounter with it. I was like...hmmm that's new. So I hold the brakes a few inches shy of my new stall point and hold...hold...hold....damnit...INFLATE!...hold....flutter flutter whoosh! Ok, cool. So now I just have to land this thing without deflating cells, stalling the canopy or forgetting about the hard built in turn and flaring evenly causing me to faceplant. Well the landing was almost beautiful...but about 70 feet shy of the preffered landing area...new glide angle. Everything turned out alright and it was an interesting experience, care of Eddy Pratt of WBS. Only problem...HE DIDN'T JUMP!!!!! I get a free jump, followed by a coached jump that I didn't have to pay anything extra for. I even tried to slip the guy some money and he's like, NO keep your money...SKYDIVERS ROCK! Anyway Thank you Eddy for the free jump and you are welcome to visit K-pow ANYTIME for a free jump on me.
  18. Holly, You don't know me, but I know so much about you. I know that you loved life to the abolute fullest. You squeezed every ounce of enjoyment out of your short stay here with us. I know that you are the most amazing individual full of love and compassion of your fellow jumpers, and non-jumpers alike I would conjecture. I regret not having the chance to meet you and recieve one (preferably several) of your apparently superb hugs. I believe a person could be judged on the quality of their hugs. And it seems you have already recieved top marks

    New rig

How comfy is it? And how much was it? I'm thinking about buying a container in the next few months and I'm torn between Infinity, Mirage and Wings
  20. I can not believe this thread is alive again!!!!

    Monkey Bar

Ok if there is seriously a monkey joke in there...there is no way in hell I'll ever be able to find it, my eyes keep wandering toward BOOBIES!!!!
  22. Hmm, accuracy (and landing safely) is my main objective on pretty much EVERY canopy flight. The only time I'm not working on accuracy is when there is too much traffic in the air, I don't want to suffer from target fixation when 6+ people are landing in the same field. I was under the impression that all students were supposed to be working on accuracy on every jump?
  23. hmmm, I found the free 2003 sim before the site update
  24. It's really sad what media has done to Kapowsin. The DZ is constantly being scrutinized by a low life bastage who has devoted ALL his time in to shutting KAS down. If ANYTHING even REMOTELY deviates from exact textbook operation, this guy videos it and gets the KIRO TV station to write up a sensationalistic story to paint KAS as "The most dangerous drop zone in the NW" blah blah blah. Oh..um..[/RANT]
