Dude, the reason I'm asking for information on here is that I really don't know anything about the skills necessary for BASE. And the people I'm interested in learning from are 200 miles away. Trust me, I'm not a Darwin case waiting to happen. I appreciate you're concern, you're a cool dude. Don't worry, I'm gonna be around for a long time, and after reading some really cool guidelines for BASE, I probably won't be lining up on a bridge anytime this year. Peace out, Blue Skies

FERRETS!!! My ferret is sooo cool, her name's Angel and she's about 5 years old.

I've seen that soooo many times, but every time it's F@#$%^& HILARIOUS!!!!!

I wonder what the pack volume is on one of those? I wonder if I could fit it in one of my DZ's student rigs for a demo?
-
Mine's not going to win any awards, but it's a picture of a sunset while driving home from the DZ. Isn't it ironic that I took this pic while driving down Sunset Highway? Attached is the Full Size pic, which actually isn't that big in the first place.

Dude that was one crazy little malfuntion there, I'm glad that it cleared its self up, yet scared that it went that low before it did Insane opening there.

Do you have a link to it? I do believe I can convert it with Adobe Premiere.

...Does anyone know of any boogies up here? The only ones I know of are as follows; Skydive Oregon in Mollala July 9 - 13 Pro Swoop Canopy Skills Camp at Skydive Oregon August 20 - 24 Freedom Jam with the Sugar Gliderz So does anyone know of any other Boogies up here? Or am I gonna be forced to drive half way across the U.S.? Not that I'd be complaining, would be nice to take a trip down to CA/AZ/TX/FL and hit up all those DZ's.

Hey all, just popping in to ask a few questions about getting my foot in the world of BASE. I know a few guys that BASE jump some nice E's not too far from here, and I was wondering what you guys think about experience level required to start BASE. My canopy skills are adequate but I would probably steer away from an E with tight landing area. The landing area that I've seen in their videos looks like it would be easy enough. If you were to take an "apprentice", what would you look for as far as canopy skills, freefall skills etc?

Crazy, he looks just like an Old Harry Potter...weird... I gotta get me a pair of those glasses

OMG!!! I can't believe the way people have been fighting lately. It must be nerves because of all the pain and suffering going around. I know we aren't at our best at the moment, but how about we just all Calm Down and just stop posting to this thread, it has served its purpose. Let us all have a virtual round of beers, shake hands and kick back and wait for the weekend, IT'S SO CLOSE!!!! I'm sure by monday while we will still miss our lost friends, we will be much better tempered via ALTITUDE! CHEERS ALL! Blue Ones -
Hehe I was hoping that I'd freak you out...DAMN didn't work Awesome Tat man, enjoy!

She looks like she's about to throw a rock at you...WATCH OUT!!!!

Discuss Ideas and Possibilities of Safety Concerns Here
Casch replied to Casch's topic in Safety and Training
I highly doubt that it would have been suicide. I didn't know Holly at all, but from what I have read here, there's just no way in my mind. She had her friends throw her out the plane for the first time like a drunk getting thrown out of a bar, it sounds like she was having a great time. And think about it, if you were to commit suicide, would you rather hit the ground at terminal, or 60 mph and MAYBE die, or very likely live the rest of your life in extreme pain? I don't know about you, but in my mind there is absolutly no way that this was suicide. Someone mentioned contacts, it was verified by Holly's Step-Dad Pat that she was indeed wearing her contacts on the jump. -
Actually... it's funny but Kapowsin Air Sports up near Puyallop is my home DZ. Yes, I drive all the way from here in Forest Grove up to Puyallup to skydive The reason being that I started when I was 17 and other than Skydive Eugene, Kapowsin was the closest DZ that would let me jump. And I found out about Kapowsin before Eugene and just sort of stuck with it. I'll be making a trip out to SDO soon though to check it out . It looks as though I'll have to drop some poundage though because I'm right at 250 right now When you start jumping and get off student status, we'll have to make a few jumps

I haven't tried holding my breath for years, I just tried and I got 1:30 !!! That's just as good or better than 2 years ago WHOOHOO!
-
Oh yeah I forgot, if you didn't know this, skydiving gear is "TSO"'d (I can't remember what that stands for but it's testing the limits of the gear I believe) to certain strengths. The containers at my home DZ, Kapowsin, are TSO'd to 250 lbs I believe, but other DZ's use different containers and they all have their own maximum weights. Anyway, if you are right on the border, you should be fine as long as you can handle yourself and perform a good PLF (Parachutist Landing Fall)
-
Very cool, when the time comes to renew my membership, I will definately make a contribution. I wasn't a jumper during 9-11 but I couldn't imagine how the skydiving community was feeling. I might even have to make a donation just because, separate from my USPA renewal.
-
You should be fine. DZ's often set their weight limits to protect you in case you can't handle your own weight in the event of an..ahem...speedy landing. I weigh 250 and I'm doing just fine. They will probably look you over and evaluate your ability to handle yourself. They won't allow you to jump if they aren't confident that you're capable. Trust me, on the skybarges they put students on, you'll be just fine. It just meens you'll be flying a bit faster and you'll get more performance out of the canopy than most people. There are MUCH heavier people that skydive than you. You should be just fine
