Is It Even Remotely Possible To Live...
Casch replied to Kramer's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Ooops, I guess that's what I get for posting so late at night. Oh well. But yeah, either way you're dead... Hmm, I want a car with enough power to kill me just from acceleration now that would be cool -
Is It Even Remotely Possible To Live...
Casch replied to Kramer's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
99.9999999999999999% of the time you will die. Going from 0-120 instantly WILL kill you, period. The physics of it are too incredible to survive. But, in ideal conditions it IS possible to live, and a couple have. Say you're wearing a really baggy jumpsuit so your fallrate is around 100 or so, you hit a really big tree in such a way that the branches bend/break enough to not kill you but slow you down enough to land in the nice powdery snowbank over the 1ft thick bed of soft pineneedles over nicely porous dirt. Then you MIGHT live. And don't even think about landing in water, that will also kill you. Water is basically a solid at those speeds...think belly flop... In my dreams however, I hit the ground all the time, then I get up and hope nobody saw it, and get on the next load without figuring out why there was nothing above my head -
I spotted the whuffo's before I even noticed the hand signals...they don't look like they're having near as good a time, and their smiles nearly look fake skydivers seem to be a much happier bunch than the average

This is not quite what Harriet expected when Frank told her he wanted to try something new...

I bought my tickets through South West. I'm flying from Portland to Phoenix roundtrip for $193

Actually that could be pretty fun! Have the "no chute" person actually wear a rig, with a modified tandem harness, or just some D rings on the mlw. Try to link up by 5K otherwise deploy separately. I think that could be pretty fun

Has been posted (where's ivan???) but still a friggin awesome video. This guy's balls have got to be the size of watermelons! How does he keep them in the suit?!?!

Going to a new DZ on Student Status..
Casch replied to Thanatos340's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Go ahead and jump at a diff. DZ. I've jumped at 3 so far and I've not yet got my "A". The first DZ that I went to other than my home DZ had pretty old rental gear which made me a little nervous at first. I figured what the hell! People have been jumping this gear for years without incident! lol. My home DZ has BOC mounted rip-cords for rental gear and this DZ had chest mounted rip cords. I did about 100 imaginary ripcord pulls before boarding the plane, and did the same thing on the way to 10,000 ft in a 182 (plenty of time for practice). I had no problems. Stay current and go to other DZ's -
I don't think so... What about this? Is this photoshopped?

The first time doing a H&P and watching another experience jumper jump right after me. It was awesome to watch him fall another 800ft or so below me all the while doing back loops and barrelrolls. 'twas really cool

how to find that "Column" of calm air
Casch replied to Nunhumper's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Don't try to get solid, try to relax. Let the air form you, but give a little positive pressure also. Don't worry, it will come with time. It's not something that you can just DO, you feel it, and you'll catch on soon. -
Ok so the JelliFish pick is friggin awesome! have you listened to the samples? Ahhh, I wish I could play the guitar. I barely know the basics and a few chords. I have a cheapo yamaha acoustic guitar but I got some busted strings and I'm also terrible at tuning someday tho

omg that had to hurt soooo much, but that's friggin awesome

What's the point? Parachutes are cool, everyone wants one whether they would use it or not. It's a neat decoration anyone that believes in the finders keepers "rule" is going to take it and wont want to give it back. I would probably start kicking some ass if someone didn't give it back after I asked nicely. I'm not letting anyone walk away with $1K+ of my stuff without a fight. Not all whuffo's are bad whuffo's but they sure as hell ain't all good ones

Congratulations on getting off student status! I'm right there with ya. I got off student status nearly a year ago, but I still don't have my A . I'm finishing it up this weekend though

Oh you mean that movie with Keano Reeves and Patric Swayze, with that uber realistic skydive scene? What? That isn't an accurate depiction of the skydiving world?

I totally agree, I'm talking about if there is altitude available ie above 5K
