  1. Yep - scuba PADI Advanced Open Water, Camera, Search & Recovery for about 7 years several times per month when located outside of Chicago, IL and Tampa Bay, FL. Then relocated to central North Carolina and got land locked. Good thing! I only then discovered my man and the sky. Both guy & skydiving go well together or individually, but haven't scuba in about 10 years now . Maybe some day.
  2. I could not believe this. We got to know James a little when he came to jump at Raeford Parachute Center. He will be missed both now and at the 2004 Nationals. I'm so sorry to both his family and friends.
  3. Welcome to the sport! Hope you are as crazy as the rest of us.
  4. Happy Birthday and Happy Jumping Anniversary to you! I agree - get a packer and enjoy the day. Perhaps do a few hop & pops to get each day going. Let us know how it goes. Enjoy
  5. Money is always tight when it comes to skydiving. If your folks or other Christmas/birthday buying kind of relatives aren't too sure about this skydiving thing, here is a suggestion: Explain to them what an AAD is and how it can save your life. Then tell them, any Christmas, birthday, graduation money gifts you receive will go toward the purchase of an AAD. Something that will be used for many years and can save their son's life each and every time.......... I think you get the idea! Good luck
  6. You're not a slacker! You're just pacing yourself. Welcome to posting in the forms.
  7. So sorry to hear of the loss. And happy to hear no one was injuried. It is expensive, but that is exactly why we carry insurance for our school equipment. Our equipment is new and up to date, but the building we are in is old and you never know. At $12,000 plus for a new tandem rig, you have to insure!
  8. Hang tight and wishing the to you. Keep us posted, and keep your friends and family rallied around you. It always helps!
  9. Hey newbie! Welcome to posting in the forums. Thanks for hangin out in Iraq. Stay safe and enjoy skydiving in CA next month.
  10. Hey if nothing else, think of all the $ you are saving for June! Hang in there and thanks for being in Korea for the big USA.
  11. Nah! You'll get bored with that tandem instructor strapped to your back. But don't worry, the training wheels won't come off until you are ready. Enjoy
  12. † Thoughts & prayers to you and yours. And don't forget the celebration of life with your Aunt. Get togethers with family and friends is the best way to handle that depression. Your trip is good timing.
  13. Sorry you have to wait until spring! But if you can't travel south for a winter break, it's worth the wait. Keep us posted how it goes this spring (if not before).
  14. Best of luck and wishing you well. Don't forget to stop by the forums and type hello from time to time.
  15. Ok, I just made both my dogs sit at attention while I read the doggie New Year resolutions to them. I'll let you know how long they are able to keep them!
  16. Thoughts and prayers your way. So sorry.
  17. ((((((((((Hugging)))))))))))) So sorry to hear about the accident. Glad you are alright, the deer didn't suffer long and the car is repairable. And two points to you for at least having the smarts to get the car fixed and plan another day for jumping. Don't give up, plan and save again! Skydiving is worth the wait! In the meantime, don't hesitate to stop by a DZ and say hello. Hang out at the DZ bar and get to know a few folks. You can even learn to pack and start making extra money before you even skydive! We have done that with more than a few at Raeford!
  18. www.thepops.org Cool! I hope you join and enjoy the sport.
  19. Welcome to jumping! I'm curious. What type of container are you jumping? And how old is it?
  20. Welcome back to the sport! You have already done something that many DZ.com posters have not done.....jump a round canopy.
  21. If arriving to NY, I recommend a rental car. No amtrack or Greyhound gets close enough to a DZ to make a walk comfortable. You can be much more flexible with a rental car. Times to travel, changing travel plans due to weather. Evening life in the local town and places to stay. And if all else fails, a great place to crash for the night! I hope you consider stopping through Raeford on your trip! We'd love to see you. www.jumpraeford.com
