seen it and watched him packing. new(ish) velo (< 200 jumps) he packed without any struggeling. Tight packjop but within reasonable limits. We talked about the packing pressure afterwards and he gave the rig to me. The container was just as tight as my own one (JAV RSK1--Katana 120, max recommended size) Would have jumped it without hesitation YMMV ------------------------------------------------------- To absent friends

There is no such thing as a general lifetime limit for skydiving gear in germany. Only if the manufacturer states one like for quick reserves or airtec with their cypres, those limits apply. Lifetime limit in Austria is 20 years on everything (cept cypres n stuff) but only for locals, visitors are responsible for themselves. Repack cycle is one year. Whether you have to show your gear to a rigger prior to your first jump and what amount of information they want to have is highly dependable on the dropzone you're at. You certaintly don't need to 'bend over' but make sure to have all the required papers at hand in case they want to check them, no sorcery required. Back to topic: The only dropzone that offers year round jumping is Paranodon-Illertissen. Two planes, 206 and Supervan 208, best dropzones for funjumpers in bavaria imho :) Make sure to call them before driving there, gras runway might be sometimes too wet and the planes are not allowed to start. Some dropzones offer christmas jumping and also make sure to check when the Pink Skyvan is around (e.g. Zell am See, Austria) ------------------------------------------------------- To absent friends

Doing so has most likely damaged the anti fog coating of the visor ore even better removed it completely. Buy a new one and be smarter the next time ?? ------------------------------------------------------- To absent friends

Only via a computer and the Paralog-programm IIRC. The user interface on the Neptune3 only shows up to 4 different speeds in different altitude areas. refer the the manual how to access this information. (page 25) http://www.alti-2.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=5 In my experience the speeds recorded are highly inaccurate on the N3. We repeatedly got over 450 and even up to 500 km/h on normal sitfly jumps. (WR is about 560 km/h btw ) so don't rely on the speeds shown, they are most likely not valid and most times not even close. During the speed skydiving comptetitions they measure with two Protracks (L&B) attached to the jumpers hips. ------------------------------------------------------- To absent friends

Pilot vs Sabre2: which one opens slower/softer?
Pobrause replied to skydiverek's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I've got about 40 jumps on my Pilot 168 and it also almost always turns to the right on opening - anywhere from 90 to 270 degrees. Haven't been able to figure out why. For awhile I thought it was because I pushed in the nose during packing, but that hasn't panned out. If I packed it in the southern hemisphere would it turn to the left? I like the canopy otherwise. Try and measure both of your thights... Only two cm in circumference can make a big difference. Maybe tighten your legstraps identically doesn't work for you. Maybe... Otherwise: air gremmlins ------------------------------------------------------- To absent friends -
Pilot vs Sabre2: which one opens slower/softer?
Pobrause replied to skydiverek's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
200 jumps on Sa2 150 @ 1.4 handfull on Sa2 120 @ 1.75 About 20 on Pilot 132 @ 1.59 Pilot had definitely the softer openings, hardly felt anything slowing me down the first 1 1/2 sec during the snivel. Took about 200 feet longer to fully open. Had the softest openings so far on Katanas though Flyingwise Katana 1st, Sabre 2nd, Pilot not even 3rd ------------------------------------------------------- To absent friends -
Sa2 are pretty sensible to trim changes in IMO. I noticed a difference in opening characteristics with lines only about 2-3 cm out of trim. Made about 200 Jumps on a Sa2 150 @ 1.4, never had a single hard opening. Testjumped a 120 last year, not bad at all. But onheading openings were a rare occasion the last 100 times on it IIRC. ------------------------------------------------------- To absent friends

Is that right? Only asking 'cause i have a 2001 Speed reserve 170 which sort of packs like a 170... As far as I know: yes Certification here in Germany for the 170 Speed 2000 was 1998 though. 120-150 in 1997 Edited to add: Earlier in this thread it was mentioned by a paratec staff member, that the Speed 2000 was TSo'd for the US market in 2003. Maybe they did sell some more normal Speeds there until then? But: Paratec is the only costumer for the specific speed 2000 material, that gets produced solely for them. With changing demands and production rates sometimes they did not have enough of the 2000-material and used normal f111 instead on some parts. Mostly ribs but sometimes more. Nevertheless they sold them as Speed 2000 reserves. So when your speed packs like a normal 170 f111 you might have been lucky enough to get one of those hybrids ;) The difference in material haptic is pretty subtle though. I could barely tell them appart when my rigger showed me different samples ------------------------------------------------------- To absent friends

Icarus Nano or PD Optimum reserves?
Pobrause replied to Blumpkin's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
http://www.performancedesigns.com/docs/packvol.pdf How to measure size and volume of different canopies? PD makes some good points for those interested to read a bit more -
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5YKfARBJtZU seen a couple helmet cutaways due to lines entangled and at least one with a bridle wrapped around a cam, can't find any of those atm though ------------------------------------------------------- To absent friends

all Speeds manufactured during the last 15 years have been Speed 2000 with the low bulk material. Nevertheless sometimes Paratec is short of the Speed 2000 material and uses normal f111 instead on some parts (ribs mostly) My rigger (30+ years experience as a Rigger) pointed this out to me. So sometimes they do pack a bit bigger than advertised. To make sure its all 2000er material contact Paratec with the serial number and ask them. also the MSW for a Speed reserve is way lower than for a comparable Optimum oder PD-R Speed 135: 80 kg (176 lbs) Optimum 126: 115 kg (254 lbs) Don't know anything about the Nano, though. ------------------------------------------------------- To absent friends

New Javelin Odyssey - Sunpath Backpad or Not?????
Pobrause replied to ChuteRequired's topic in Gear and Rigging
attached two pics of my javelin for clarification sorry for my paint skills ;) the spacer foam is a free option and would also cover the area where the Sunpath backpad is on my rig right now you can choose between deluxe backpad (normal spacerfoam as shown in the pic) Sunpath backpad (pic) and no spacer foam at all. with both the Sunpath backpad and the spacerfoam backpad your legstraps are comming with spacer foam padding ------------------------------------------------------- To absent friends -
Depending on the clothes you're going to wear I would sew a pocket on the back of one of my thighs with the cables running under your cloth. How big is the recorder? with a headmounted cam and cables plugged in I would also make sure those cables release easily in case of any entanglement 0.02,-c

New Javelin Odyssey - Sunpath Backpad or Not?????
Pobrause replied to ChuteRequired's topic in Gear and Rigging
Bought a new j3k without any padding and it felt very comfortable. recently sold it and bought a new RSK1 with the Sunpath Backpad and although the rig itself is still pretty stiff and not worn in it already feels just gorgeous. Love it! on a sidenote it looks pretty rad, too ------------------------------------------------------- To absent friends -
Save more money, those 3k are not gonna get you anywhere close the experience lvl required for wingsuit basejumping. I even highly doubt you can make it to your licence + own gear with it let alone start making money out of the sport... ------------------------------------------------------- To absent friends

safe reserve wing loading
Pobrause replied to coolskydiverguy's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I picked what I can comfortably land everywhere as a main which is a 126 Optimum at 1.7 I know I'm screwed if I ever have to land this thing unconscious ore disabled. And I know many others are that are jumping reserves that small To answere your question: 200+ sqft WL under 1:1 ------------------------------------------------------- To absent friends -
Why jumping a fully eliptical canopy and deal with all the issues that come with a highly tapered airfoil when you don't load it enough to get any benefits out of it? I jumped a 149 at 1.3 and a 120 at 1.75 The 120 opened much more consistent, after talking to some other jumpers they also said, they experienced better openings when loading their xfires more. Other canopies might also be more forgiving and stable in turbulences at this wingloading. Recommendations by the manufacturer mostly have a reasoning behind them, maybe call Icarus and ask, if they would be okay with you jumping a crossfire at that loading and if not, why? Just my 0.02 cents :) Keep us uptated pls, would like to know how you liked the crossis ------------------------------------------------------- To absent friends

Hi everybody, comparison between those two canopies I made several hundred jumps on Katanas fell in love with the long recovery arch, the light frontriser pressure and the power on the rears. Also made a good handfull with some crossfires and didn't like them at all. Not even close in swooping power to the Katana Today I got offered a pretty good deal on a nearly new Neos. Before I testjump the neos (first (semi)crossbrazed for me) what do I have to expect? How do these two compare? Anybody that jumped both? thanks in advance ------------------------------------------------------- To absent friends

since the introduction of the Speed 2000 and its new material in 1997 they only sell the Speed 2000. No 'normal' Speed. There is also only the Speed 2000 listed on their Website and product portfolio from 2011. Ore am I wrong? Not entirely sure about this though. http://www.paratec.de/ http://www.paratec.de/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/Produkt-Portfolio__email_20081.pdf ------------------------------------------------------- To absent friends

licensed skydiver and gear costs
Pobrause replied to Nick117's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Money!!! Lizenz: Arround $2000 up to 3000 Euro or even more depending on where you are Gear: Helmet, rig, altimeter, audible, gloves, jumpsuit ect ect... buy everything new and you will have to invest about $8000-$9000 buying used can save some money of course Jumps: ticket prices can vary from $20 up to 45 Euros (Switzerland) and even more. 150 jumps a year can therefore cost from $3000 up to 6750 Euro depending on where you jump driving cost to get to the dropzone, boogies, additional gear like a second jumpsuit, wingsuit, tunnel time, teaching like canopy control courses and workshops is not for free either... And of course everything mentioned above depends on you and your attitude towards this sport, your time and so on ... Do you want to be the one doing 20 solos a year or maybe 300+? You dont need a $7000 rig for 20 jumps, rental would be the best choice then but like mentioned before, everything depends on you ... better start saving now blues ------------------------------------------------------- To absent friends -
one instructor--> level 4? Video of the jump would help for further investigation and proper advise ------------------------------------------------------- To absent friends
