not if you just loop the part with the cateye through the original ring, so that it releases from it once you release the toggles.. easy fix without needing to replace anything =) If you don't have those rings at hand in Eggenfelden call Hans Ostermünchner at fallschirmdepot.de Still like the Lookma RDS on your Katana 120? Might soon have a 107 with appropriately sized RDS-slider for sale, if you're interested =D ------------------------------------------------------- To absent friends

that looks shitty indeed. But how do they achieve the obviously much more appealing quality of those specific internetvideos, we all think about, when talking about spy glasses but nobody dares to mention?! rhetoric question btw

should I take a canopy control course?
Pobrause replied to keithbar's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
the only limitations for a canopy control course are the quality and professionality of the instructor and your ability to learn ------------------------------------------------------- To absent friends -
I'd highly recommend a gift certificate to a skydiving gear store in lieu of trying to pick something out for him.

buying gear/money transfers overseas?
Pobrause replied to blkhwkmech89's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
get a rigger as a trustholder as a station in between. The Rigger holds on to the gear until every party involved is satisfied with the deal, the money is sent and the gear is in the advertised condition. Otherwise everything goes reture and you cover shipping. Done it a couple of times, works like a charm ETA: escrow, new word for me, again what learned =) ------------------------------------------------------- To absent friends -
Probably none. They just want you to buy another cypres and are giving you some incentive to do so.for once I agree with Lyosha.

You're right apparently. Didn't know that. Again what learned, thank you

This... With landing speeds of modern sport canopies PLFs are not the way to go, especially on no/lowwind days. There has been a read somewhere on here regarding that, if I remember correctly of course you have to draw a line between low and high loadings... ------------------------------------------------------- To absent friends

Looking for a good helmet with Gopro mount. Advice?
Pobrause replied to Nicknero1405's topic in Gear and Rigging
http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=3894693;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;forum_view=forum_view_collapsed;;page=unread#unread thats why... and its only a small fraktion of all the possible reasons why jumping with a camera is restricted to a certain level of experience. Sorry if my answeres were offensive to you. I'm a know-it-all and am easily offended when people show massive lack of knowledge. My advice: Read! Read everything! Read it again, diskuss what you read with others and more experienced guys and gals. Don't forget jumping! JUMP! And when you think you have read it all and discussed it all then come back and ask new questions =) ------------------------------------------------------- To absent friends -
Looking for a good helmet with Gopro mount. Advice?
Pobrause replied to Nicknero1405's topic in Gear and Rigging
as a 24 y/o you should know the search funktion as someone beeing trained in Teuge you should know who to ask for advise (hint: its not the Internet) as someone still in student status you should care about a thousand different things first before even thinking about a cam as someone still in student status the only video that should be of interest to you is outside video of yourself and not your point of view and to get that you know where to go, right? 2 wisdoms that come for free: 1: Shut up and jump! 2: Things you rush will either hurt you or your wallet, often both. Especially in aviation. to answere your question: Buy a Cookie G3, all the cool kids are doing it, what could possibly be wrong with them? ------------------------------------------------------- To absent friends -
to know what her goals are in skydiving might be more important in regards of choosing a new helmet... they are all 'freefly friendly' for what its worth they all CAN be the perfect fit for her Does she want to use a cam, which one, mounting options, cutaway, maybe she wants to try a fullface for her next helmet, the fit of the different helmets may vary immensely, colour choice... A helmet is a very personal choice and not really fitting as a surprise present. Either she expressed her wish for a certain new helmet (model xy, sice xy, options xy...) somewhere in the past or you risk wasting money... I'd highly recommend figuring out what she wants prior to buying a new one. ------------------------------------------------------- To absent friends

assuming your profile is correct and up to date I personaly don't see any reason for you to downsize. The Sabre is hands down THE perfect choice for somebody wanting to get started in swooping. Its recovery is quite long compared to Stiletto/Pilot/Safire its range on rears is remarkable for an intermediate canopy you need to be very consistent to pull off nice swoops which is a very good thing to learn BEFORE you get on higher performance wings It does have very good bail out capabilities if flown correctly swoops like crazy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MISV7GXi7qc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=25aExv7YDYg I loaded my Sabre 150 also close to 1.4 and got consistent 80+ meter swoops on low wind days doing 270s from 185m (~610 ft) The Sabre is a very capable canopy and in my opinion pretty close performancewise to a Crossfire. At least the recovery arch is not that different, range on rears I think the SA2 wins Why only double fronts on the 150? Have you tried 90/180/270s up high? Have you tried bringing them down to the ground on the 150? Do you use your rears, do you know what they are capable of? Do you have any idea of the 'performance potential' of your current canopy? You sound like you could use some coaching instead of a new canopy If you want to explore a new sea, why using a new ship you are not familiar with instead of the old and proven one that is equally capable? if you're not swooping the shit out of your sabre please don't even consider a Katana. Xfires might be just a small step, Katanas are a completely different level (or at least can be flown at). And IMHO 100 jumps a year are nowhere near enough to either jump a Katana or start serious swooping ------------------------------------------------------- To absent friends

Silly skydiving injuries
Pobrause replied to Joellercoaster's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
After a day of jumping a friend of mine stumbled over a beer crate, that he had emptied nearly all by himself. Broke his femur in 3 places. After a party another one of my friends drunkenly "stole" an old motorcycle from our DZO and drove up and down the grass runway. Didn't see the drainage and literally got his balls smashed by the gas tank. After his crown jewels reached the size of ostrich eggs we took him to the hospital. Was not jumping for about 2 1/2 month. A good story never ever started with someone eating a salad, right? -
he might still suffer from concussion due to his fall ------------------------------------------------------- To absent friends

He wasn't the first one, there have been others before him, e.g. we had a Vector just about over two month ago that we found the same issue on and contacted UPT. Their answer was to use a normal steel cable instead of the spectra ripcord. They sent one our way immediately but told us that nobody else had this kind of problem. good to see they figured out the problem now =) ------------------------------------------------------- To absent friends

When you're expecting help on this issue you should consider giving all the information... Canopy size, wl, type(manufacturer) of rds, what kind of jumps, slider size original vs RDS... FWIW the PD RDS for the Velo/VC is a bit smaller and only designed for hopnpops... Are you jumping a PD-RDS? ------------------------------------------------------- To absent friends

Lookma removable slider - re-installation time
Pobrause replied to maggyrider's topic in Gear and Rigging
Have about 200 jumps on a Katana 120 with lookma RDS. Version with the one release in the middle Packing takes only about a minute or less longer (30 sek is possible), so its a non issue. I still am faster than most people with normal slider. When you get used to it it also is faster and easier than the PD or Icarus removable slider to reinstall. Idiot proof system, very easy to use, easier and better and faster and simpler than the PD and Icarus versions IMO Lookma sliders are tough and build like tanks, seen them with 2000+ jumps and still looking good and working like on the first day, they last forever. Have the removable slider in exactly the same size as the standard one. Openings are... umm... well... interesting?! on about 50% of the jumps it snivels katanalike for 250 meters and opens beautifully onheading, the other 50% are a variation of slammers, twists and generally nasty and barely tollerable openings especially when doing more than 10 jumps a day with heavyish cameras on your helmet. I tried close to everything with my packjobs, slider in, slider out, nose in, nose out, nose rolled, stabis folded under, very tight packing versus sloppy packing, rolling, stuffing, doublestowing, let a very experienced packer do some packjobs... you name it. BEWARE OF PERSONAL OPNINION RESULTING FROM VERY LIMMITED EXPERIENCE: IMO --> The problem with the lookma RDS IMO is that the slider grommets are on the outside of the edges of the slider and not on the inside. This allows the canopy to spread further appart upon inflation/ snivel than with the regular slider. This might lead to quicker inflation. With the regular slider I had only good openings. ::EDIT:: After contacting Lookma with this Issue and beeing answered within 2 hours (!! -
Looking at the Sony PJ 810 handcam right now as upgrade from a CX 115 With a larger batterie its quite on the heavier side with over 500 gramm (screw your imperial system!) + windspeeds up to 300 km/h and the added drag of a neopren cover... I'm wondering whether the normal camera screw and a small velcro tape to hold the cam in place is actually enough?! It worked well with the CX115 without the velcro tape but you could already see after years of use that the area around the screw adapter on the cam starts to bend and will eventually break at some point. Do I really need a propper case or is velcro tape plus screw enough? Also my schumacher mount has a thin layer of rubber on its surface that is a bit flexible. Would a nonflexible layer work better? Am I overthinking? Also is anybody already using the PJ810? Would really like to get firsthand experience =) ------------------------------------------------------- To absent friends
